people need to see that the guy doing the video already knows his body well enough to know how much pressure to apply without it hurting and that's why he's able to do it quickly using the amount of pressure he appears to be using, for people who havent done this or similar self-massages before start with light pressure and build up if it starts too hurt then too much pressure so take a step down and work out the kinks at that pressure its longer the first few times but practice makes perfect
Thank you SO much ! I could sleep (2:07am here) , watch this video and your neck massaging video and I feel alot better ! Now I can sleep , thanks again .
I suffer from chronic undiagnosed back and neck pain. Would you recommend these technique more or trigger point therapy? I find that both techniques help but it's never enough.
@DarcieLea If I had chronic undiagnosed back and neck pain I would get an examination by massage or physical therapist I trusted. Then I would work out a treatment plan based on the examination. If i suspected the problem was caused by active trigger points I would want the examination performed by someone who had the ability to treat this particular problem.
oh man, this is working miracles and I only did it once on both shoulders.. This is going to work wonders when I'm at Military camp during the summer. Thank you so much for the video.
@TheNukeFuzz As long as you're not causing pain you're not massaging too much. Ideally though you want to limit massage to when you feel your body needs a it to help recover from exercise or other overuse activities like working at the computer, playing a musical instrument, or gardening. Once a day after you workout, or when you first get up in the morning are both good times to receive a massage.
@goatfellclimber It helped me when i was working on the video to keep my traps relaxed. Lying down on your back is even more effective. Thanks for your comment.
Thank you for the great videos ! I'm bodybuilder and I have some problems with my shoulder - It is hurt at certain exercises and it clicks - sound like a mouse click. I use glucosamine,B vitamines,Fish Oil - What is your advices about medicine ? And how often I have to do masage - pre workout or better post workout ? And what also I can do to help my shoulder ?
You're welcome. I hope they continue to do you some good. When I lift weights I find it helpful to massage between sets, and usually the morning after, I'll massage the muscle group I worked the night before. Every body is unique and self-massage gives you the opportunity to discover what works best for you. So I would suggest trying different things and seeing what works best for you. I don't use any supplements so I can't really recommend any. If you're shoulder is causing you pain see a PT.
Love it, my shoulder hurts so bad sometimes and this helped me alot. Where can I buy your book? Do you give workshops? I live in Colorado Springs. Thanks again. God Bless you
That's great to hear, I'm glad it helped. The book is available at amazon. I sometimes do workshops in Boulder and may start doing them in Denver and Colorado Springs but have no firm plans yet. Thanks for your comment.
Do you have a self-massage for the pec area of the chest? I strained mine upper right side) with too much computer time, and my arm and hand turned inward while using the mouse. Thanks!
i almost fell asleep doing this, and i love it when he says "i hope your shoulders feel better" in the end.

Is there such thing as massaging to much, What would be a good amount of massages per day, perhaps one a day after a workout is fine?

Self massage certainly helps, but I feel that being massaged by somebody else is more effective.
I just can't seem to get that last bit of release, but maybe that's just me.
