Okay people that hated the third game because of the plot twist, understand that at the end it turned out that even though Luther had technically created the program for the world of Star Ocean, he didn't create the characters' "souls", so he had no control over anybody's actions in SO1 or SO2, and not only that, but just because it's a virtual reality world that doesn't make it fake. It just makes it different. They even call it a parallel universe in the game. So stop fretting over it.
I'm happy ! I have a XBox360... I'LL BE ABLE TO PLAY IT ! I hope the graphic will be better than Star Ocean Till the End of Time... it should cuz the 360 is better than the PS2. I can't wait to play it ! I already love the news characters ! :D
Star Ocean is also like star trek in that it technobabbles everything. Though you could do worse. I was a bit dissapointed with the last games graphics and the english voice cast to be honest, probably because I'd just finished xenosaga at the time. I'll reserve judgement on this until I see the battle system and story synopsis as always.
Yet another reason for me to get a PS3... I don't care if this is on multiple systems.. will just mean more people will experience a great RPG series in SO. The trailer shouts "exploration".
for the people who had the misfortune of being introduced to star ocean 3 without playing 2...play 2 and you'll see what star ocean is meant to be. If those two chars were claude and rena and it follows the story closer to 2 star ocean 2 than it will be good.
that would be awesome if they were Claude and Rena but highly unlikely I don't think Claude had a symbol on his palm anywhere in SO2 or else they would have mentioned it more. I love the wide cast of personalities in SO2 I hope they bring that to this one and for god sakes bring back the tetragenes as playable characters (opera, ernest)!!

Funny how the history repeats itself. All the comments for this trailer reminds me of the PS2 days. They're fighting about multiplatforms and call themself true gamers and deny the facts I have read from reliable sources. Geez... what's wrong with gamers these days. They're worser than ever. Star Ocean 4 is PS3 exclusive. Hence why Square Enix's president Yoichi Wada confirmed Nintendo platforms and PS3 as their main platforms for their capital this generation. And I bet Tales of Vesperia will be PS3 exclusive since Dengeki had an article about jpn devs talk about RPG's for PS3 and Namco Bandai have exclusives for PS3 currently in development.

well from what I read in a small article, in the last gameinformer that i read it said. That well be able to travel to different planets and galaxies. So it looks it more Sci-fi but with more of a ff world appeal.
delarge no offense but do you work at tri-ace? if so then congrats and more power for you but if you dont then stfu and let us dream won't you? and you never know plenty of 1 console only games have been changed to multi dmc going to the 360 as well and other titles as well. and one last point tri-ace may be making it but square's the one releasing it on their software so they get last say.
All I got to say is that Star Ocean 3 was the best RPG there was to offer! And that Star Ocean 4 gots to be a PS3 exclusive, because those graphics seem to fit in the PS3 3/4D graphics. I'm sure it will offer up a good amount of gameplay and excitement, hopefully just as good as its predecesors. =)
What do you mean? These gfx are good but didn't know when comes the gfx PS3 and 360 are pretty much the same, hell even the 360 beats the 360 in most cases.
Yamagishi is making Star Ocean 4, not Hajime Kojima. He's only a assistant producer for SO4 and producer/director for Infinite Undiscovery. MS Japan may have payed tri~Ace to developed Infinite Undiscovery and Kojima will be the producer. But look what happened when they have faith in old producers as Hironobu Sakaguchi and old composer as Uematsu, they don't deliver like they used to do in the old days. New producers seemed to deliver more.
Wow, the trailer looks so Sci-Fi~~ I hope it's really a Sci-Fi story, instead of what happens in SO2: you landed on a planet at the beginning of the game, then it's all middle age sword & magic.........
tri-ace has been very tight lipped about what console it will be on. Even their own website is still "TBA".
Given the fact that the trailer was on a UMD disc, I would find it quite insane if it did NOT show up on PS3. But their inability to announce the console makes me think theyre going to go multiplatform with it.
We shall wait and see. tri-ace has no reputation with any company. Keep in mind half of the star ocean games have been on Nintendo systems.

Uhh...no. CGI and in-game graphics are 2 entirely different things. I'm absolutely positive that the visuals are entirely beyond what the Wii's capable of. Also, Famitsu did mention that this was a PS3 exclusive.
How do you know its not in-game? Given the PS3's power and some of the in-game footage of FFXIII, I wouldn't be surprised if this turned out to be in-game graphics. We'll see if this turns out to be an exclusive or not, but I'm betting it will be.
It's pretty easy to look at graphics and tell they are not in game. Every FF XIII video that's surfaced so far has contained nearly 99% pre rendered footage.
There's a big chance it WILL be a PS3 exclusive, but Square has The Last Remnant coming out on both systems. They're probably testing the 360 water here in America to see how that goes.
They also have Infinite Undiscovery for the 360, exclusively, and it is created by Tri Ace, the same team doing Star Ocean 4.
Err...I think you need to check the screenshots again. If you take a look at Lightning's boots for instance, you'll notice that they have polygonal edges, indicating that is in fact real-time. When it comes to CGI, especially Square's, polygonal edging is virtually NON-EXISTENT.
Yeah I hear this argument all time. Whenever something looks too good to be true, its automatically dismissed as a bullshot or CGI. Its a very easy argument to make without any real back-up whatsoever. If FFXIII was CGI like you stated, then Square must've done a horrific job because FFX's CGI puts FFXIII's graphics to shame.
In other words, if FFXIII were CGI, then I would expect it to exceed or be on the same level as FFVII:AC given Square's expertise with CGI. However, from I can tell with the footage being leaked so far, FFXIII's graphical fidelity is not even close to even FF:TSW. So basically, it is reasonable to pupport that FFXIII is in fact, real-time.
What good will that do? You're just going move the goalposts as soon as I succeed to disprove you. But at any rate, this has gone way off-topic, we should be discussing about SO4, not FFXIII, White Engine or all of that crap. No need to get emotional on the internets.
What I mean is, ad hominem is only a valid whine whenever you use it against someone making a FACTUAL argument. Obviously, you don't know what you're talking about, so it's a valid issue.
That's exactly my point. If 99% of FFXIII's footage was CGI, then it should look at least just as good if not better than FFX or FFVII:AC, but it doesn't. So if they can make FFVII: AC look as good as it does, then why can't they apply the same standard to FFXIII? Add to the fact that the game isn't even close to being 10% done so who knows? For all we know, the final product will surpass even that of FFX/FFVII:AC/FF:TSW CGI.
Um Tri Ace is made up of like 3 teams. They mainly do Starocean stuff. But from what i've seen, it looks good, but it looks game play good, nothing over the top. but good. I'm almost 100% sure thats game play, cause it does not look like anything I've seen in the Star Ocean CG scenes.
@Frankazami Seems you are the only person commenting actually knows anything. With properly applied MSAA you will not see much polygonal edging in in-game graphics. Tri Ace and Square are both said to be using the Power of PS3 MSAA with deferred rendering to attain graphics performance on the level of Killzone2. The only way to tell? Series of zoomed screens from video, where you will see trace Polygonal Edging! Done, it's in-game! ;)
and Xbox 360 can't do either of these techniques. No matter how hard it's fans wish it could. There are many benchmarks out now that prove this. To think this game or FFXIII or Versus and especially MGS4 are anything but PS3 exclusive is insanely ignorant and b3yond hope! =D

Wow. Did you even read what I typed? I didn't say it wouldn't be for the PS3. I simply corrected the above statement. This video is, in typical Square fashion, all CGI, no gameplay. CGI is capable on plenty of systems.
Square's not developing the game, Tri-Ace is. Last time I checked, Square stopped using CGI shortly after they developed White Engine, which is actually capable of achieving CGI quality graphics in real-time. Tri-Ace is doing something similar with this game which utilizes the IU engine. That's pretty much the best part about their engines, they're so good its hard to tell if its CGI or real-time.

The only reason why they licensed the UE3 was to make porting to 360 easier. And yes, White Engine is more than capable of CGI quality graphics, you just don't want to admit it because it will make your precious Wii look underpowered by comparison.

All I got to say is that Star Ocean 3 was the best RPG there was to offer! And that Star Ocean 4 gots to be a PS3 exclusive, because those graphics seem to fit in the PS3 3/4D graphics. I'm sure it will offer up a good amount of gameplay and excitement, hopefully just as good as its predecesors. =)

Yamagishi is making Star Ocean 4, not Hajime Kojima. He's only a assistant producer for SO4 and producer/director for Infinite Undiscovery. MS Japan may have payed tri~Ace to developed Infinite Undiscovery and Kojima will be the producer. But look what happened when they have faith in old producers as Hironobu Sakaguchi and old composer as Uematsu, they don't deliver like they used to do in the old days. New producers seemed to deliver more.

tri-ace has been very tight lipped about what console it will be on. Even their own website is still "TBA".
Given the fact that the trailer was on a UMD disc, I would find it quite insane if it did NOT show up on PS3. But their inability to announce the console makes me think theyre going to go multiplatform with it.
We shall wait and see. tri-ace has no reputation with any company. Keep in mind half of the star ocean games have been on Nintendo systems.

Uhh...no. CGI and in-game graphics are 2 entirely different things. I'm absolutely positive that the visuals are entirely beyond what the Wii's capable of. Also, Famitsu did mention that this was a PS3 exclusive.

How do you know its not in-game? Given the PS3's power and some of the in-game footage of FFXIII, I wouldn't be surprised if this turned out to be in-game graphics. We'll see if this turns out to be an exclusive or not, but I'm betting it will be.

It's pretty easy to look at graphics and tell they are not in game. Every FF XIII video that's surfaced so far has contained nearly 99% pre rendered footage.
There's a big chance it WILL be a PS3 exclusive, but Square has The Last Remnant coming out on both systems. They're probably testing the 360 water here in America to see how that goes.
They also have Infinite Undiscovery for the 360, exclusively, and it is created by Tri Ace, the same team doing Star Ocean 4.

Err...I think you need to check the screenshots again. If you take a look at Lightning's boots for instance, you'll notice that they have polygonal edges, indicating that is in fact real-time. When it comes to CGI, especially Square's, polygonal edging is virtually NON-EXISTENT.

Yeah I hear this argument all time. Whenever something looks too good to be true, its automatically dismissed as a bullshot or CGI. Its a very easy argument to make without any real back-up whatsoever. If FFXIII was CGI like you stated, then Square must've done a horrific job because FFX's CGI puts FFXIII's graphics to shame.

In other words, if FFXIII were CGI, then I would expect it to exceed or be on the same level as FFVII:AC given Square's expertise with CGI. However, from I can tell with the footage being leaked so far, FFXIII's graphical fidelity is not even close to even FF:TSW. So basically, it is reasonable to pupport that FFXIII is in fact, real-time.

If anything needs to be backed up, your statement that the White Engine looks as good as CGI needs a link for verification. Same thing about Tri Ace.
FFX's CGI WILL put FFXIII's in game graphics to shame. CGI will always look better than in game visuals.

That's exactly my point. If 99% of FFXIII's footage was CGI, then it should look at least just as good if not better than FFX or FFVII:AC, but it doesn't. So if they can make FFVII: AC look as good as it does, then why can't they apply the same standard to FFXIII? Add to the fact that the game isn't even close to being 10% done so who knows? For all we know, the final product will surpass even that of FFX/FFVII:AC/FF:TSW CGI.

Um Tri Ace is made up of like 3 teams. They mainly do Starocean stuff. But from what i've seen, it looks good, but it looks game play good, nothing over the top. but good. I'm almost 100% sure thats game play, cause it does not look like anything I've seen in the Star Ocean CG scenes.

@Frankazami Seems you are the only person commenting actually knows anything. With properly applied MSAA you will not see much polygonal edging in in-game graphics. Tri Ace and Square are both said to be using the Power of PS3 MSAA with deferred rendering to attain graphics performance on the level of Killzone2. The only way to tell? Series of zoomed screens from video, where you will see trace Polygonal Edging! Done, it's in-game! ;)

Square's not developing the game, Tri-Ace is. Last time I checked, Square stopped using CGI shortly after they developed White Engine, which is actually capable of achieving CGI quality graphics in real-time. Tri-Ace is doing something similar with this game which utilizes the IU engine. That's pretty much the best part about their engines, they're so good its hard to tell if its CGI or real-time.

The only reason why they licensed the UE3 was to make porting to 360 easier. And yes, White Engine is more than capable of CGI quality graphics, you just don't want to admit it because it will make your precious Wii look underpowered by comparison.
