No, wolfs not king of blues, thats a debate of Robert Johnson, Mudd, BB king, Wolfs definitly in the convo, though. You can feel chills through this chere.
GREAT BLUES .... feel me on THIS one ... search YouTube : "IBEW drummer CALL IT" words wrote out in annotations. "early morning inspired" a (by-definition) original inspired by "early in the morning" Harry Nilsson's version Not same song though, also inspired by my "what's-her-name-#1" breaking my heart.
What makes it even worse that this song is used to sell erections is that one of his most famous songs besides this one is called "Back Door Man". Oh the humanity!!
Classic Song and one of the Best Bluesman of all time Baby. Hoochie Coochie Man, Baby. Hubert Sumlin R.I.P. Man. Kick Ass Guitarist who played on a lot of Wolf's Classic Hits. Wang Dang Doodle, Smokestack Lightning, Spoonful, and many more. He passed away November 4, 2011. One of my favorite blues showman.
reminds me if frosted flakes,,,,,its great! . h w jimmy reed, muddy all great pioneers along wit robert johnson. alot of REAL musicians like the stones e. clapton, van morrison etc stated the afore mentioned blues players really influenced the them n they even covered alot of their songs. chumps like elvis sang their songs and made tons o cash n never aknowledged them. kind makes one think that blaq folks do hav a legit compaint bout being robbd by whitey, ha ha life gos on
SusieQ wasn't a copy. Trad blues has a lot of what you could call standard patterns. The genius of the blues isn't always in a unique rhythm or unique riff or something, but in a unique twist on familiar things. Not that new things never happen in blues -- they do, all the time -- but there are a LOT of things that are an evolution of what's gone before. If you listen to enough blues you can trace the musical fingerprints of songs.
And then there's the "industry" of the "Bo Diddly" beat. :)
My father used to wrestle professionally back in the 80's for the WCW and some Canadian League. His stage name... Smoke Stack Lighting. This was his entrance song
@Nocaro Back when these blues artists were coming up there was no such thing as legal issues. So many artists copied each other. It usually worked out like this... the black musicians came up with some original sounds, and then white musicians covered them. The white bands got more exposure because of the times. And im not biased or racist or anything, thats just how it was
I had a convo with Willie Dixon's grandson about Leg Zeppelin and songs like Killing Floor winding up on Zep Albums credited to Page/Plant. They are still sorting out some of that crap.
@lleitner1 The truth always come out...they have to live with it. A lot of artists from there sing one way but when they open their mouths to talk, the accent shocks you. They do help promote the music a lot ...but should give credit where it is due.
@Nocaro a lot of blues songs sound alike. Same tempo, swing, rhythm, etc. lots of blues artists covered songs from other artists. Susie Q was probably written as a homage or tribute. Blues is to laid back for legal issues. now that seems all there is is legal shit in the music industry anymore. We need soul in music again.
@liveforlove13 alot of musicians and especialy blues musicians copied from eachother, it wasnt frowned down on as it is today because of mp3's. elvis presley wrote none of his songs and used songs from blues artists (hound dog is an example). john lee hooker would rip off his own songs and write is own as well as borrow from other artists, borrowing rifts also done by blues musicians. whos to say unless its a historical fact its subjective.
@libertysunbeam2 exactly, if it wasn't for albert king's "as the years go passing by," then "layla" would have never had that opening riff that it is so widely known for. duane and eric were two of the best fresh bluesmen in the late 60s and early 70s, and even they were borrowing bits from their idols such as howlin' wolf, b.b. king, etc. etc.; and as i guitarist myself, i find myself borrowing chord progressions and notes by artists and creating my own tempo or rhythm with it. the notes work.
@liveforlove13 Seems like most of today's music was somehow copied from this. Listen to Howlin Wolf then Led Zeppelin. Not saying it's a bad thing because it's not, unless there was no credit given for the creator.
@liveforlove13 it's not actually a copy - many musicians worked around similar melodies, those days being the main concern lyrics and vocals (I know I'm simplifying it a lot but you get the picture).
Once you've listened to Howlin wolf, and let that voice get to you, it never really leaves. I mean no one sings like him so there's really nothing to compare with. A perfect counterpole to Muddy's laid back style
