well if i were to become pregnant yes i would have an abortion. not only because of my degree but at my current level of debt there's no way i'd be able to support it.

Some lead fullfilling lives because they are surrounded by loved ones, they have made the most of what they are given, and they serve a purpose. most kids with Duchenne MD have average intelligence, about 1/3 of them experience learning disabilities and a small number of them have mental retardation. Not everyone can be as perfect as you. That doesn't mean they don't have the right to live. You need to learn the value of life. you DON'T have the right to judge if they are weorthy of life.

we recently had an ethics module in which around 240 of the 250 people in my year agreed that its selfish to conciously let someone suffer.health and medical education is vastly different from the US. its free at the point of use, patient choice is of the upmost importance and we value medical science over religion.

Adoption and abortion are NOT alternatives to each other and should not be presented as such! Abortion aborts the child; adoption aborts the mother. Instead of promoting separation of mother and child and the destruction of an EXISTING FAMILY, why aren't you promoting services to keep these families together? Why trade the "empty arms" of the waiting families for the newly "empty arms" of the mother? In order for a family to be made by the "miracle" of adoption, a family must first be destroyed.
Adoption does not destroy a family...my freind was adopted because her mother was too young to take care of her...and she didnt think that she could give her the life she knew that she deserved. My freind is very happy with her adopted family. She is a wonderful person. Some people cant have children, so adoption gives them the chance to beparents.

Yes, often the best thing would be for these mothers to keep and love their babies forever, and I do support organizations such as All Babies Cherished that gives financial support to mothers so they may keep their babies. but this is not always possible for the mother. Let us love life and not suggest abortion, the death of an unborn baby, instead of adoption.
Let us rather show women all their options, including adoption-- if they absolutely in no way can safely, emotionally, physically, or financially support a baby for whatever reason. Unless it is dangerous for the child to stay with the mother adoption and foster care should always be the mother's decision.

Well I made the choice four years ago to have my baby and place him for adoption. No one can judge you for the decisions you make except for one. For those of you that have or are considering adoption, yes it is the harder of the two choices. But when I get pictures of his smiling face, Iknow I made the right choice for ME and the BABY.

I think this song is sweet. Brought tears to my eyes. I have children, and how hard it might be for a parent to give a child up. It is a great gift. My uncle was adopted, so I had a personal experience that came to mind when listening.
What about those people who suffer the trauma of forced adoptions. Adoption does have it's place but only if it is agreed by the parents. In the UK there are many "forced adoptions" that are rushed through secret family courts.

If you got raped by some homeless person, and you could get the baby aborted, you would do it. And you can not get an abortion after a certain amount of time, so it really does not matter, the baby is entirely dependent on the mother, it is still part of the mother at the time it is legal to abort. Because they don't realize that the fingers connected to their arms on their bodies are under their control. I believe nothing inthe third trimester and only the second in a case where the pregnancy is harmful to the child or mother. Is that a clear enough line? It's not about "human" and "non-human", it's about person and non-person. I think life in the sense of living, not simply existing begins once sentience is attained. First trimester fetuses are not sentient. Brain waves and activity begin to develop in the second trimester and at 21-24 weeks, the fetus is more or less a fully developed infant and can retain audio "memories", which is why it can recognize voices also why playing certain music can highten its future intellect.
These lines do not change the fact that we are human beings from the moment of conception. Brain waves are the line you have chosen, and I understand the reasoning as I used to think that it wasn't a baby until it looked like a human...but these are arbitrary lines...lines that are different for everyone, who is to say who is right? Who is the most wise on the matter?
when some suggested my mother have an abortion at 8 weeks my fingers, toes, eyes, body already existed. My heart was beating. I had the same DNA that I do now and existed in this world. We must not be so eager to deal out death in judgement of what is a person and what is not. We are all human beings and even the very wise cannot see all ends.

an unborn baby is alive. ther have been no arguements about that on either side. "one half of all people that go into an abortion clinic come out alive" Many women may have died having illegal abortions, but all babies die in an abortion. Women know the consequenses of sex. If they want to be 'adult' enough to have sex they need to be adult enough to deal w/consequenses in an adult manner, and that doesn't include murder.

It just comes down to it being legal to kill one's own children. Should we make it legal for a parent to kill their child up to a yr old if they decided they didn't want them. There have been 36 million abortions since 1974. Now had those fetuses been brought to term who would've adopted them? Where would we get the money to support all these kids in orphanages? Have you adopted any kids? No? I didn't think so, do you even know anyone who has adopted? The chances of a white baby being adopted are okay, but news-flash most of these babies aren't white and their chances of being adopted are so slim it's a joke. Adoption isn't some magical answer to this problem.

Really? Those no-kill shelters are totally selective they probably take 5 animals a day. So lets do that now, see whose kids are attractive and smart and the rest we'll leave in the desert or have euthenized anyway!
I volunteer at a shelter and we receive 100 cats and 50 dogs a day, and guess what 90 of those cats will be put down and 25 of those dogs.

And therein lies the problem. no concern about the life you re so easily snuffing out. That's why ADOPTION is such a loving option. It's easy to see that "loving" is not part of your character. And, that IS a very important aspect in a Dr, so again, I will hope that your dream of being a Dr when you grow up will soon be lost in the other dreams children have, such as being a ballerina. At least no one will have to depend on you to make caring loveing decisions about the sanctity of life.

You can kill a living being. Thousands of animals are killed everyday. Life in itself is not sacred. Human life is considered as sacred ONLY because of the human self-consciousness. Humans are able to have deep thinking, complex feelings and social relationships, they're aware about life and death, and that's what makes us different. Since a fetus is unconscious (at the time abortion is allowed), killing it is acceptable.

That leaves 93% of abortions that are performed for CONVENIENCE! Abortion is NOT a matter of choice, since the unborn doesn't get a choice in the most important matter of all... that is LIFE. The baby deserves that same CHOICE. and if asked, i bet his/her answer would be, "LET ME LIVE".

Some lead fullfilling lives because they are surrounded by loved ones, they have made the most of what they are given, and they serve a purpose. most kids with Duchenne MD have average intelligence, about 1/3 of them experience learning disabilities and a small number of them have mental retardation. Not everyone can be as perfect as you. That doesn't mean they don't have the right to live. You need to learn the value of life. you DON'T have the right to judge if they are weorthy of life.

we recently had an ethics module in which around 240 of the 250 people in my year agreed that its selfish to conciously let someone suffer.health and medical education is vastly different from the US. its free at the point of use, patient choice is of the upmost importance and we value medical science over religion.

When having sex, everyone knows what can come of it. Protected sex or not, there's always that chance. If your "grown up" enough to have sex, be grown up to handle the consequenses. Adoption and abortion are NOT alternatives to each other and should not be presented as such! Abortion aborts the child; adoption aborts the mother. Instead of promoting separation of mother and child and the destruction of an EXISTING FAMILY, why aren't you promoting services to keep these families together? Why trade the "empty arms" of the waiting families for the newly "empty arms" of the mother? In order for a family to be made by the "miracle" of adoption, a family must first be destroyed.

Adoption is not the only alternative. It is one of the many. Yes, often the best thing would be for these mothers to keep and love their babies forever, and I do support organizations such as All Babies Cherished that gives financial support to mothers so they may keep their babies. but this is not always possible for the mother. Let us love life and not suggest abortion, the death of an unborn baby, instead of adoption.

Well I made the choice four years ago to have my baby and place him for adoption. No one can judge you for the decisions you make except for one. For those of you that have or are considering adoption, yes it is the harder of the two choices. But when I get pictures of his smiling face, Iknow I made the right choice for ME and the BABY.

If you got raped by some homeless person, and you could get the baby aborted, you would do it. And you can not get an abortion after a certain amount of time, so it really does not matter, the baby is entirely dependent on the mother, it is still part of the mother at the time it is legal to abort. I believe there should be a few more laws in place restricting abortion, but fuck the Christian stance on it, not everyone thinks some big guy in the sky made a baby and shoved it in your body.

well I'm gunna put my 2 cents in... I work in the maturity ward at my local hospital as a volunteer. The Babies in the nusury scratch their faces. Why? Because they don't realize that the fingers connected to their arms on their bodies are under their control. According to the eariler comments I person is a sentient being, but obviously the infant isn't aware of their surroundings, indeed they aren't even aware of what they control and who they are fully.

What I am saying is that no one, yes not even me, can really arbitrarily create a line of life and non-life. That is why it is so important to not deal out death in judgement because we really don't know. All we do know is that it is a human baby, with a heart beat before a woman even knows she is pregnant. If you kill an animal, does the animal still move a little bit shortly after death? Yes, but the animal is still not alive. Also, if someone is on life support, he/she moves and responds with his/her surroundings, but has no consience mind and no life because the brain is practically destroyed. Therefore, we can only consider an embryo alive because of independent survival and not response to environment.

It's not about "human" and "non-human", it's about person and non-person. I think life in the sense of living, not simply existing begins once sentience is attained. First trimester fetuses are not sentient. Brain waves and activity begin to develop in the second trimester and at 21-24 weeks, the fetus is more or less a fully developed infant and can retain audio "memories", which is why it can recognize voices also why playing certain music can highten its future intellect.

when some suggested my mother have an abortion at 8 weeks my fingers, toes, eyes, body already existed. My heart was beating. I had the same DNA that I do now and existed in this world.
