The last three major eruptions were 2.1, 1.3 and 0.64 mya with average intervals of 700,000 years. By that sample of only two intervals, we'll get another sometime in the next 60,000 years, maybe.
There were smaller eruptions 70-120,000 years ago, but they just oozed out and paved the caldera floor in rhyolytic lava, hence the "yellow" stone. Those who think these things are that predictable are simply crazy.
puncheex, Here is something to think about. The interval between the second and third eruption was about 82.5% as long as the interval between the first two eruptions. Using that pattern, the next eruption should have been about 120K years ago. Maybe ????? thats what those smaller eruptions were. this is wht i learned in geography, everything within 100km of the volcano will die due 2 pyroclastic flows which is hot gas and rock which can be as hot as 1000 degrees celsius. the rest of america will be covered in ash round about 1cm, when it is breathed in it mixes with the moisture in you're lungs, it makes a cement-like liquid which will eventually drown u, it only takes 1mm of ash fall 2 close down a airport.

i dont know about the mayan calendar and all that but i do know that once the yellowstone volcano erupts we will die, massive amounts of gas and obsidian particles will be let into the air. Obsidian is basically small pieces of glass that comes from rock and when you breath it in it will cut up your throat and lungs resulting in .... your death. The yellowstone volcano has erupted 3 times and it erupted in a pattern, the next eruption of the "super volcano" is due to come soon.

After doing some internet research, I found the general consensus is the ash will cover about 12 states, ash will reach the east cost, and the U.S. will still be in business. The problem is that countries dependent on us (U.S.) for food will suffer the worst. We have to take care of our own for a change...
