Iny my opinion, this ending is very lame. I don't think it's even an ending! They just let the story go unfinished. I've seen a couple of animes that are based on the manga and they just leave it unfinished. Sometimes, it's better to read the manga first.

This anime was so different from my usual type. I mean, I liked it but it didn't fulfill a lot of the things I was hoping would happen in my head. A lot of depressing things happened more than anything and the ending was kinda weird cause the town was in despair but they left happily and they still hadn't reached her hometown yet.............all in all, I enjoyed it. There needs to be a Season 3. I wasn't satisfied. But that's just me.

So, learning Japanese is clearly the fastest option and since I am fluent I have been able to read a beta version of the last novel which will be released in 10 February. And I tell you, the ending will not be what any of you fans expect. Hint: I am a cold person, but I cried so much that the staff of the special library kicked me out.

I saw the first episode of the first season by sheer chance at a friends house when we were looking at random animes in comcast on-demand. Two days later, I've watched all of seasons 1 and 2 and fell in love with it. It'd be a shame if a third season weren't produced after such an ending, but if this is the last of spice and wolf, I'll at least be content knowing that Lawrence and Holo are together.

Moreover she has a dream where she wakes up on a field and meets Lawrence and they both share this kind of nose rub..so this could hold an equivalent meaning as kissing for Horo.

@kafity272 Learn Japanese I suggest. it's MOSTLY not hard. there are three writing systems: hiragana and katakana and kanji; the two first are syllables (there are 50/variety) so every syllable has two variants, and the choice depends on the word. Kanji however are logograms representing words which you must learn in your head, and to be able to say that you know fluent Japanese you should know like 6000 of them. You can write a kanji with several kana, yes, but the novel uses lots of kanji :-P

I don't see why people are saying that the ending "doesn't make sense", because it does. Holo gets mad at Lawrence because he just let Abe steal his money without trying to get it back, basically giving up his dream. She questions his actions, and he tells her that he loves her and that he would rather travel with her instead of becoming a successful merchant. They both agree that they're getting his money back, and that she can still travel with him, regardless of any deals they made before.

There might not be a season 3, cuz if you think about it thats how most anime's end, and if you drag it out it may become boring or not very good. Most anime i think are good and to the point but when it gets to long like Naruto or Bleach it becomes bland. I am hoping for a season 3 cuz thatd would be wonder full but im hoping for more of a OVA because then it wouldnt drag it out to much but still be good to watch, cuz it doesnt seem like there would be much to put after this except love
