We, in Karachi Pakistan, are so much used to the Carom-delivery in the street cricket that it is no more a surprise. We call it the finger-delivery. I have grown up facing finger-bowlers; bowlers using one finger, two fingers and even all the fingers, and even fast bowlers (myself too) who would use the Carom-delivery as a slow-ball option. I have not only played them but scored heavily against them too.

I would dispatch each and every one of his rank 'variation' balls. Really he only has one delivery, which is called the 'no turn ball'. It doesn't matter how it comes out of his hand, because there's no spin on it.

I figuired out how to bowl a dhoosra just like his by my own. The problem is that i can only do it with a tape ball. I get heaps of wickets with it too. WIth a cricket ball, the ball is too hard for my fingers to do that! He must have really strong fingers.

The best use of carrom spin imo is with legspin. Let me explain. With the back spinning leg break, the hand is behind the ball as it leaves the hand. The same spin, with carrom spin can be produced with the hand infront of the ball as it is delivered. It will fool the batsmen that you have just played an off break, only to be shocked as the ball moves away from the bat. I bowl carrom spin with the index and middle finger, it gives me more spin than the Iverson/Gleesob ball.

Now I can do leg spin and leg breaks, carrmo balls, teesras, googlies, left arm orthodox, "straighteners (ones that straighten)", the offspining yorker (I just named it that, but it really is like that), and 1 more delivery I cant title. I can't do off breaks, and even though I can do off spin, it's disguise is horrible...everyone figures out when I will do off spin! Very hard disgusing it...

what I do is

I grip the ball at first as a leg spin and make it clear, dont hide it

then as Im doing my run I change the grip at the last second and sometimes the bowler expecting the leg spin gets a off spin, and try to give the ball more flight, make it loop

Strictly speaking, that's not a doosra, that's an Iverson/Gleeson ball, first used by Aussie 'mystery' spinner Jack Iverson and also another Aussie Johnny Gleeson. I say this not to take anything away from Mendis, just to set the record straight.

Its not how much turn or twist one gets with the ball. Modern batsmen with new technology are very quick to pick the deliveries. Warne, Kumble, Mcgrath were good cos they had strategies in making batsmen commit to mistakes. They knew when to twist or send googly rather turning every ball.
