I heard of an internet utube user called something like sixpackshortcuts, saying that there is a thing called "Afterburn effect" that fools the body into burning huge amounts of energy even after exercise, which burns fat easier. How dependable is that?
If I choose gaining muscle, reduce fat in your calorie calculator are the 10% minus of the TDEE already calculated ? And should the cardio be exhausting?
Hey Scobby! Please help me! I'm trying to get bigger arms and I can't get my size for some reason all I'm getting is strength, what am I doing wrong? Also I can't get the right diet/food any good breakfast plans? I've been training for 6 months. Please helps thanks.
@fnoperi Well you don't need to gain muscle AND burn fat then, you just need to gain muscle. I'm 16, 5'6" and 132 lbs, which is similar to you except shorter... but even I am focusing on solely gaining muscle; I don't have much fat to lose.. and even if I gain fat while gaining muscle, I can easily lose it later.
Thanks for the video scooby, I'm a extremely hard gainer (9.2 stone) putting muscle on is where I struggle and this video explained what I needed to clarify.
Hey, I wanna gain muscle and lose fat. So from a research I found out that if I just take in protein throughout the day I can make my body use my belly fat and burn it off. Is this true?
fasting increases your hgh, other fat burning hormones, it increases free fatty acids, only for about if it is 8 hours fast. and consume BCAA before and after the HIIT
and HIIT will cause to release fatty acids and after HIIT do a consistant cardio to burn off those FFA to prevent them going into your fat cells.
This guy's an idiot. If you want to loose weight and have muscles you're supposed to loose the fat and then take protein to build back up your muscle. Other wise I presume you would get muscle and fat mixed and look like this guy.
I like you scooby... Your like one of the few body builders who is realistic and uses basic methods to attain your goals... I have one question though... Do you use any Supplements like Daily Vitamin, Protein Powder, Pills?
I've always heard you're supposed to eat more at breakfast and less at dinner because the metabilism is slower then and at night you don't burn as much calories. Also after the workout aren't you supposed to take high protein doses (more than usual)?. That logic of the evenly spaced meals all with the same calories doesn't make 100% sense if you ask me :p
oh thats good to know! i work as a car mechanic and i sweat gallons. hot weather and body movement means sweat. but actually i dont know if i burn fat at the same time. i work out 3 times a week and i eat about 180gr protein a day. so i think i lose fat and gain muscle?
Please please help me. Im 15 and weigh 12 stones I need to lose weight I have a Multi-Gym, Dumbbells, Jump rope, Bicycle but not a Pull up bar. I am quite weak when it comes to push ups. I have quite a big belly too (not massive) and love handles. I need to lose this please help me !
Scooby if I use the following ratios: 40 % protein 35 % carbs and 25% fats , can I still gain muscle and loose fat at the same time or do you think I need to use the ratio you have on your video?
Fat loss and muscle gain generally only occurs at the same time with obese people who have never trained before or people who take anabolics, if you have trained for over 6 months and are under 20% BF then it probably wont work, and is definitely not effective to gain muscle. In a calorie deficit your body will simply burn any protein you ate as energy because it is much easier than dipping into fat stores. Scooby has some good advice but for the most part he is a Brofessor.
Ah, yes this puts it into perspective; only a fraction of what we eat is actually used to build muscle. That's minuscule! I guess it reinforces the notion that it is ever-so easy to 'out-eat' you exercise. I'm guilty of that sin - time for some dietary revision ;-)
Great video Scooby.. loved it! Answered tons of questions that the general population has and not only did you destroy a bunch of myths, but you PROVED WHY it was wrong in the first place and why you are right!

hey Scooby1961 you said 1 gr of protein for each pound of body-weight , but another bodybuilders say 1 gr of protein for each pound of lean body-weight ,and now I am so confused please clear that to me dank u wel
@AL3AJEB very few people know their LBM which is why I say to use scale weight when figuring your daily protein requirement. 1g per pound of bodyweight per day.
what would you consider an experienced bodybuilder ??? someone who's been training hard for 2 years, 5 years, 10 years ?? this may sound like dumb question but the reason why I ask this is that I seem to have trouble doing both things at the same time . I have been training for 20 years and I was a competitive powerlifter for 5 years. I'm going to start competing in natural bodybuilding next year
@pabloco2627 What I tell people is that before they do the advanced workout on my website they should be able to do ten ultra slo-mo pullups. Thats my definition of advanced, completely arbitrary but useful.
Hey S! What´s your take on that coaches like the Abel Body Experts conclude that you cannot gain muscle while losing fat because that when you lose body fat, your body will down-regulate your hormone levels, which will prevent you from gaining muscle? I think I need an explanation on this one please!:)
@scooby1961 hi scooby, i have this question which is really embarrassing. I'm addictive to masturbation, I masturbate at least three times a week, I tried to cut it down but it's not working. Is it bad for you to gain muscle when you do a lot of masturbation?
@torbjs1502 Their diet must have changed. They must have cut out their cholesterol intake; which is bad. Every cell in your body needs cholesterol, and especailly your brain.
P.S. Hey Scooby, have you ever seen the movie Fat Head? It's about a man who eats fast food for 30 days and looses weight with a limited caloric daily intake and regular excercise. It's a very enlightening documentary, and I reccommend it if you ever get a chance.
i have to get over 3000 Calories according to your calculator each day. But how many kcal are this ?? When you say Calories do you mean 1 Cal = kcal or 1 kcal = 1000 cal ? thanks
can i do 20 mins of cardio and 20 min later? i mean..with aproximately an hour of difference(weightlifting during that time)? cuz i cant run for 30 mins....somebody plz help!
Wait, in your video you said that consistent weight lifting routines are important for buildig muscle? ...but I thought that it was important to mix up your routines with different/alternatig exercises so your body doesnt get "used to" the same routine?
Personally I think Jack3d is mediocre. I have 15 sample packets of Grape Bubblegum flavor here that 'might' be a last resort for energy one day. Other than the Beta-Alanine which is fine, its pretty much three stimulants, AKG but no L-Citrulline (dumb), & low grade creatine.
Is it bad? Depends how you feel about stimulants. 1,3-Dimethylamylamine has a main purpose as a decongestant so if you have a cold...
I don't hate USP Labs either, I take their Modern BCAAs right now.
Is ~4hours of muscle workout and ~4h cardio, too much for 1 week? I'm in pretty good form I have 4pack abs (I don't want to lose them).I been hitting the gym for about 4 times a week now for few months, and haven't done so much cardio because of the snow and cold weather, but now it's starting to get warmer so I can run ~10km sessions everyother day.
@scooby1961 Hey scooby, after working out at the gym I usually cycle/walk for 15 mins and use steamroom/sauna for 15 and my friend tells me that isn't good cardio is this true?
@kenshin54321 15 mins or cardio isnt really enough, and who told you using a steamroom/sauna is cardio, becuase it isnt lol, so try cycling/running/rowing/speed walking etc for myb 30 mins
You don't have to but it helps a lot. Thats where protein shakes help. I have a few Blender Bottles (best thing ever) and before work I'll mix up 80G worth of protein & leave it in the work fridge.
So a work day usually goes breakfast, shake, lunch, shake, dinner, training and post workout shake. Before sleep shake + BCAAs + ZMA. If your job or travel doesn't have fridge access put your protein powder in small bags and leave them in your bottle then add water and drink as needed.
just wanted to say I appreciate the time and effort you have put into these videos scooby. A lot of great ways for me to keep switching up my weight training at home.
Explain to me please! how it it physically possible to burn fat and gain muscle at the same time ?
Im a bodybuilder and want to understand your perspective on which i do not agree on.
i think you have great advice and love your no supplement only hard work ethic and believe it helps ALOT of people be incorporated in health and fitness and than you helping these people.
but honestly no offence peoples bodys are diffrent and most people cant lose bf n gain muscle in my opinion.
The longer you train the harder it becomes. Beginners can do many things wrong & still make gains. Personally, I think once a person becomes intermediate or beyond losing while gaining becomes tough since you are always on a fine line nutritionally & lots of people end up going nowhere.
Here we have 5 cold Winter months where I gain maybe 10-15 lbs. , then shred down for Summer starting Feb. 1st with the goal of being bigger & more cut than the year prior by May 1st.
@scooby1961 hi im a big fan of yours its good that you are like actually the only on on youtube that give us info without any motive(trying to promote products). i am like 235 pounds 1.7m, i do workout like once a week but thats like based on my mood. how many times a week should i work out, and how much time spent on cardio and weight lifting. I will check out your other videos. Thanks for taking the time to help us, world needs more people like this guy. Rock on!!!
Dear Scooby, I'm a little confused. when you said 1gram of protein per pound of body weight, do mean 1 gram per pound of lean body mass or 1 gram of protein per pound of body mass in total?
Most people just use their total weight as a baseline, even though obviously a lot of body mass has no use for protein, but its just something people do to make sure they are getting enough. Kind of like at the coin car wash when you think you can get it done with 8 quarters, but you put in 12 just to be sure.
That was a pretty stupid analogy. Damn you Sam Adams, damn you to hell!
you can gain 1lb a week but its not muscle, attribute it to water retention as well as some fat storage. scooby is right, i wish people would quit trollin on his vids with their so-called expertise lol
I know you insist on the 5-6 servings of protein spaced throughout the day, but what about stuff like intermittent fasting, where all calories are consumed within a short window of time?
I'm 16 and i gained about 40lbs in about 3 or 4 months. After i did this i looked cutter then i did before. i ate pretty much everything i wanted.. i do not understand
@Gravesdahunter You gained 40lbs muscle in 4 months? Either 1) you are a one in a billion genetic freak 2) your scale is broken or 3) you are overdosing on steroids.
Not that I am some sort of expert, but I do however know that cardio and weight training is not best combination if maximum muscle gain is your goal as they are, to put it very simple, each others opposite. I am not saying you should avoid cardio completely beacause that would really stupid for health reasons, but doing cardio every day sounds a little bit overkill.
Would like to hear your opinion on this topic scooby.
I love ur vids, very helpfull. I do alot of cardio and muscle gaining, I eat healthy and after every second month or so I feel and see differences. Keep it up!
I disagree with Scooby. You can't gain muscle and lose weight at the same time! Even if it's possible, it is a really, really and really slow process. In other words, this strategy is a useless method!
i do strength training and body building at the same time also stretching and cardio i do those 1st before i do any of the rest circut training is nother good way i do because my dad use to have that type of body structure so scooby is that good enough for me doing that because im already 17 and i have a stomach but i dont need to eat any alot because im in the structure i just need work on abs alot and other parts i dont even take protein or any certain drugs all natural
I love the way you seem to really hate McDonalds Scooby :) Everytime you are talking about gaining fast weight , you say just go to McDonalds every day! But you are right and by the way, I am sure you would prefer die than eat Mcdo.
My comment to Sanjor8r, dont worry about your weight as a driver. Worry about burning off excess fat and gain muscle mass which means you will be healthier. Decide what you want out of life, do you want to be a marathon runner a sprinter or just someone who is healthy and fit. Your training regime will dictate this.
What if our goal is to lose weight? I am at 240 lbs and want to get to 190 but if I gain muscle and lose fat wouldn't that counter balance each other and I will be 240 lbs of muscle?
I am trying to add muscle and lose fat at the same time. I do martial arts everyday, and haven't got a huge amount of time to lift weights. Martial arts is a great workout, but is there any way somebody like me can gain muscle without needing to take an hour or so to lift weights (not enough time)?
Scooby, you didn't mention anything about the carbs and fatty acids our body needs to gain muscle..... but you need to cut down on carbs and fats to lose fat. So how can you possibly say that you can gain muscle and fat at the same time? This process might work if you wanna gain 1 lb of muscle per year.
@Vidcole You don't need to cut fats to lose fat, intact look at the keto diet you consume more fats than you do protein! And for most people its the most effective diet to lose fat and maintain most muscle mass.
you said really lean people can't gain muscle and lose fat at the same time. Does that apply to really lean people with belly and lovehandles as well?Thx
@kdfhok I dont recommend that you run everyday for that exact reason, you will have knee problems. There are a zillion ways to get cardio though, mix them up! Please check out the cardio section on my website.

scooby i got a question i went on your website and used the personalized workout tool and because i am 17 choose the 9-17 range but when i read the plan it says that i have to use it until i am 16 then i can go to intermiadiate, so should i go to intermideate? because im in decent shape pretty tall at 6' 145 pounds and still want the personalization so not sure to start the teen or intermediate please answer thanks a lot :)
Dear Scooby, after researching the web for a considerable time I have come to the conclusion that your video's and site have been the most usefull, objective and fun source of information I have ever come across. I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to put all this information out there in this usefull manner. Best regards from the Netherlands!!!
Quick question. I think you should do a video on this or a simple reply is fine.
Do ab belts work?! I see commercials all the time and before investing in one, a answer would be nice. Are they just a sham or do they really work? and If so, which one(s) would be the best investment.
But isn't doing daily cardio wrong, especially for beginners? Doesn't the body have to "regenerate" and cause something like overtraining, like we know about muscles?
Is there an overlap between the 3 tiers of energy usage? If there is no overlap, then one would have to completely go down to 0% body fat before muscle is cannibalized. As far as I know, there's nobody in the world with 0% body fat. So does this mean muscle cannibalization is extremely rare? On the other hand, if the energy tiers have an overlap like 3 gaussian curves, then muscle cannibalization increases as body fat decreases.
I already did a lot of research about this and I experienced it myself. To build muscle and lose fat at the same time, you have to consume enough protein (to build up muscle) and consume less cal and fat which will result in fat loss. The only difficult thing is, how do you eat less in cal and fat but on the same time you take enough protein. Well, I use the protein shakes because it's low in cal and fat and it has high protein. I don't know how to do it on another way...
How many reps and how many sets would you do? Endurance, sculpting, or mass gain? I believe I heard Scooby say "high intensity", but what has worked for you?
hi scooby , i wanted to ask that , while i tried to loose fat i lost muscles and fat both but i loose more muscle then fat , my belly is almost of same size, i lost around 10 kg , can muscles be regained witout gaining fat ? i m 20 yrs ,6 feet 2 inches , 83 kg . please reply asp plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
@zloyhimik Complete malarky. You can NOT realistically add 1 pound of muscle per week! Your so called studies "proving' this are undoubtedly paid for by the supplement company whose products are being promoted by the study.
@zloyhimik Link me to those studies, please. There are so many factors in muscle building that you can't say "people gain 1lb of lbm a week". Even if that statement were true I'd be well over 600 pounds now, please stop spreading BROscience.
@NJnaturalBB People who tout their programs massive mass gain potential are usually talking about weight gain and not muscle gain. Whats the difference? Weight gain is fat + muscle. Its easy to gain 1 pound a week of weight - just eat at McDonalds all the time. :)
Well most of the food you consume before bed won't really be burned off, or not much anyways since your body is in an inactive state. Therefore, most of the calories consumed right before bed will probably turn into a small amount of fat. If you do this often though, it adds up over time.
SORRY, COMMENTS TURNED OFF

@scooby1961 hi scooby, i have this question which is really embarrassing. I'm addictive to masturbation, I masturbate at least three times a week, I tried to cut it down but it's not working. Is it bad for you to gain muscle when you do a lot of masturbation?
lufodao1990 10 months ago
@scooby1961 5:40 is mumbojumbo-speak
bloodhoundgangjon 10 months ago
@torbjs1502 Their diet must have changed. They must have cut out their cholesterol intake; which is bad. Every cell in your body needs cholesterol, and especailly your brain.
P.S. Hey Scooby, have you ever seen the movie Fat Head? It's about a man who eats fast food for 30 days and looses weight with a limited caloric daily intake and regular excercise. It's a very enlightening documentary, and I reccommend it if you ever get a chance.

OsloBobby 10 months ago
Scooby, im currently taking jack3d for cardio and lifting. Is this bad?
myfeet14 10 months ago
@myfeet14

I'm in pretty good form I have 4pack abs (I don't want to lose them).I been hitting the gym for about 4 times a week now for few months, and haven't done so much cardio because of the snow and cold weather, but now it's starting to get warmer so I can run ~10km sessions everyother day.
saintsrow9444 10 months ago
@scooby1961 Hey scooby, after working out at the gym I usually cycle/walk for 15 mins and use steamroom/sauna for 15 and my friend tells me that isn't good cardio is this true?

do you need to eat 5/6 times a day to gain muscles because sometimes it's hard to eat so much if you're an a day trip?
dimivc 10 months ago
@dimivc
If your job or travel doesn't have fridge access put your protein powder in small bags and leave them in your bottle then add water and drink as needed.

i think you have great advice and love your no supplement only hard work ethic and believe it helps ALOT of people be incorporated in health and fitness and than you helping these people.
but honestly no offence peoples bodys are diffrent and most people cant lose bf n gain muscle in my opinion.
miniman511 10 months ago
@miniman511

Dear Scooby, I'm a little confused. when you said 1gram of protein per pound of body weight, do mean 1 gram per pound of lean body mass or 1 gram of protein per pound of body mass in total?
retard6987 10 months ago
@retard6987
Juggernaut76 10 months ago

Anyone done the carb cyclying? I'm only on day 2 of Scooby's plan. How long til you start seeing some results? 2 weeks?
ajames00012 10 months ago
Not that I am some sort of expert, but I do however know that cardio and weight training is not best combination if maximum muscle gain is your goal as they are, to put it very simple, each others opposite. I am not saying you should avoid cardio completely beacause that would really stupid for health reasons, but doing cardio every day sounds a little bit overkill.
Would like to hear your opinion on this topic scooby.

I disagree with Scooby. You can't gain muscle and lose weight at the same time! Even if it's possible, it is a really, really and really slow process. In other words, this strategy is a useless method!

My comment to Sanjor8r, dont worry about your weight as a driver. Worry about burning off excess fat and gain muscle mass which means you will be healthier. Decide what you want out of life, do you want to be a marathon runner a sprinter or just someone who is healthy and fit. Your training regime will dictate this.
joethewaiter01 10 months ago
What if our goal is to lose weight? I am at 240 lbs and want to get to 190 but if I gain muscle and lose fat wouldn't that counter balance each other and I will be 240 lbs of muscle?
sanjor8r 10 months ago
I am trying to add muscle and lose fat at the same time. I do martial arts everyday, and haven't got a huge amount of time to lift weights. Martial arts is a great workout, but is there any way somebody like me can gain muscle without needing to take an hour or so to lift weights (not enough time)?
Minatour94 10 months ago
Scooby, you didn't mention anything about the carbs and fatty acids our body needs to gain muscle..... but you need to cut down on carbs and fats to lose fat. So how can you possibly say that you can gain muscle and fat at the same time? This process might work if you wanna gain 1 lb of muscle per year.
Vidcole 10 months ago
@Vidcole You don't need to cut fats to lose fat, intact look at the keto diet you consume more fats than you do protein! And for most people its the most effective diet to lose fat and maintain most muscle mass.

But isn't doing daily cardio wrong, especially for beginners? Doesn't the body have to "regenerate" and cause something like overtraining, like we know about muscles?
TheKastenbrot 11 months ago
Is there an overlap between the 3 tiers of energy usage? If there is no overlap, then one would have to completely go down to 0% body fat before muscle is cannibalized. As far as I know, there's nobody in the world with 0% body fat. So does this mean muscle cannibalization is extremely rare? On the other hand, if the energy tiers have an overlap like 3 gaussian curves, then muscle cannibalization increases as body fat decreases.

GREAT VIDEO SCOOB :)
I don't know how to do it on another way...

studies have shown that one can gain realistically 1lbs of muscle per week.
zloyhimik 11 months ago
@zloyhimik Complete malarky. You can NOT realistically add 1 pound of muscle per week! Your so called studies "proving' this are undoubtedly paid for by the supplement company whose products are being promoted by the study.
scooby1961 11 months ago 46
@zloyhimik Link me to those studies, please. There are so many factors in muscle building that you can't say "people gain 1lb of lbm a week". Even if that statement were true I'd be well over 600 pounds now, please stop spreading BROscience.
NJnaturalBB 10 months ago
@NJnaturalBB People who tout their programs massive mass gain potential are usually talking about weight gain and not muscle gain. Whats the difference? Weight gain is fat + muscle. Its easy to gain 1 pound a week of weight - just eat at McDonalds all the time. :)

@scooby1961 is it true if u eat at night and sleep right after, or 15minutes after eating, u store all that food as fat?
JacksonMichaelBAD 10 months ago
@JacksonMichaelBAD
Well most of the food you consume before bed won't really be burned off, or not much anyways since your body is in an inactive state. Therefore, most of the calories consumed right before bed will probably turn into a small amount of fat. If you do this often though, it adds up over time.
