  • This interview certainly made me cry, but also, it filled my heart with Joy to see Julie react with such dignity and class. I hope and pray that I can develop at least a one millionth of the inner peace she projects. What a Lady !!! -They don't come like that anymore. God Bless you ALWAYS, Julie.

  • This is a terrible interview on Barbra's part. How many times does she have to say that she can't sing.

  • Restart Docters, if you don't know what it is that your are doing than don't do it at all. I cried, she'll get her voice back and I know it.:) what a pitty. Love you always Julie.

  • Oh, such a shame. ;(

  • This makes me cry :(

  • This makes me want to cry so much. I love Julie so so much x x x

  • Why does Barbra keep asking her when Julie told her that I'd rather not talk about it. That annoys me, I feel so bad for her. She's taking it so well, she's trying to make the best of it. I somehow see tears in her eyes, tears that she's trying to hold back, the further the interview goes, the more the emotion comes.

  • This is so terrible. I love her so much.

  • Barbra likes to stay negative.

  • This makes me want to cry.

  • What a classy, talented and extraordinary lady. The damage to her voice is a great tragedy to her and to the gazillion fans who adore her. I am one of them. Love you, Julie

  • That's so sad...she is such a strong woman

  • leave it to 6 complete fucking assholes to be haters.

  • This is truthfully one of the most terrible things that could happen to a musician. I'm 18 and something similar has happened to me that was beyond my control. I'm a voice major currently, and I'm fighting to sing again. Seeing her going through this is inspirational. It's detrimental, but she's such a strong woman. She gives everybody else hope that even if you can't do what you love again, there's still so many wonderful things in life that you can do. She's a wonderful celebrity role model.

  • I am sad to hear that Julie cannot sing anymore. However, please be happy that you have sung most of your life and your voice has brought happiness to everyone. I can't sing at all regardless. My vocal is fine, but I got no talent. My case is much sadder :-(

  • aww I wish I could hug!

  • The end is just heartbreaking :(

  • can i just cry now

  • the hostess went TOO far. I feel so bad for Julie. Luckily she does sing in Princess Diary 2, which means that her voice has recovered at least partially!

  • so tragic she lost her singing voice!! she had an exellent singing voice, a singing voice like an angel!!

  • But she did sing a little in The Princess Diaries 2.So that's a start :)

  • Ginger, I'm crying my eyes out too! : (

  • @shawnkevinobrien, yes that is heartbreaking i love julie but i love the fact she has that glimmer of hope at 5:33 xxxx :)

  • i am crying my eyes out!

  • i <3 julie andrews,,, with or without her voice!

  • MAN, Julie is so classy and collected and gracious in what could have been a total, incoherent weep-fest of an interview (not that I would have ever faulted her for that , incidentally!). On the positive side of a truly horrible situation: she's being a great role model for how to look after your own health...she's still inspiring in her ability to value herself and life and the career achievements already under her belt...She makes me want to hug her every time I see her. :)

  • It'd suck to be the doctors who ruined Julie Andrews voice!!

  • Barbara Walters is such a bitch!!

  • Another reason why doctors suck!!!

  • I'm about to undergo the same procedure in 1 month. This has left me in pieces. I'm terrified. The last sentence, she's says never being able to sing will change something inside of her forever....I couldn't agree more. This has broken my heart.

  • watch her facial expression at 5:36. Heartbreaking.

  • I'm a singer and I love Julie Andrews and I cannot even imagine how she felt...if I ever lost my voice I would be devestated. I don't know how she possibly got through all of that. She's such a strong woman and I will always look to her for inspiration :) what a treasure! hahaha I'm like crying right now!

  • this made me cry. i still am crying. you can see it in her eyes how sad she is. to know that that beautiful, BEAUTFUL voice wont be heard from her now anymore is just devestating. i love julie and i think that her losing her singing voice is bull crap. i just pray that even though she is about to be 76 in october that she will wake up one day and find that voice again. she doesnt deserve that emotional pain. (btw, her eyes have never changed <3)

  • I hated how Walters just kept picking at her with the last question! She clearly stated that she did not want to talk about it! I love Julie Andrews, i think she is a phenomenal actress, and if she were, in a million years, ever to see this, I have hope that she will sing again. She will always be one of my favorite actresses! Long Live Julie Andrews!!!!

  • I had the same surgery on my vocal chords (because of genetic issues), and go to the same doctor she goes to now, to fix her vocal chords. She has been such an inspiration to me, and I admire her so much. Finally, my voice is getting better, and it's being compared to Julie's before the surgery. I saw on the news she's finally singing again.

All I can say to the doctor is thank you. You helped me, you healed Julie, who knows what else! Thank you, so much.

  • She has gone on to write lovely children's books so she found her voice in something else.

  • @GeoStrum3 She also a strong film career and always had.

  • anyone else remember where they were when they heard the news?

  • god, her voice was so freaking heavenly and rare!! the surgery messed it up? so it was the surgeon's fault then, right? She still sings btw, so i'm glad she didn't completely lose her ability to sing =)

  • I think she STILL has an amazingly moving and powerful singing voice. Maybe it's not as high but she just went on tour!!

  • I hate the interviewer so much!! She seemed to want to make Julie suffer or cry to make her show have more morbid curiosity. I mean that was a big lost and her voice is still a legend and she shouldn't have made that questions so directly :(

  • that brave amazing talented beautiful inspiring woman, you didnt deserve what happened to you. Juie Andrews is so humble and gentle and well spoken she is a true inspiration, godbless Dame Julie Andrews<3

  • My heart is still breaking over this.

  • Oh Julie, you are the best artist in the world! <3

  • whoever disliked this could go die

  • whoever disliked this could go die

  • i just burst into tears right at the end....

  • stupid interviewer she is an idol deserves better treatment

  • u.u

  • Heartbreaking. I can't even imagine how devastating.

  • next to my mom, she is DEFINATELY the most wonderfull, special, angel-like woman I have ever met/seen! Love you julie!

  • i think my heart just broke.

  • Poor Julie. She looks like she's on the verge of tears. We still love you!

  • barbra needs to know that privacy is important to everyone. just because it's showbiz doesn't mean everyone should know everything about a person

  • @StuffBurner That's so true. Unfortunately, I think that's what people give up when they take that opportunity to be famous. They give up A LOT of their privacy, though not entirely, when they become internationally recognized. It's sad, but true. That's why I respect actors of Julie Andrews' calibre who are able to keep their personal lives as private as possible when they're that famous.

  • Wait- she DID sing once more- in Princess Diaries 2. "Crowning Glory". HA, Barbara!!

  • Oh, my gosh. What a terrible way to end that interview. To have younger Julie singing in the movie, "and I'll sing once more." I think that was cruel. Poor Julie. I don't really like to watch shows like 20/20 and 60 Minutes because the interviewers are always so pushy with questions. Julie said she didn't want to talk about it anymore. THAT should have been the end of the interview!

  • I wish this didn't happen to her... :'(

  • tears were brought to my eyes

  • I almost cried listening to her. She is such an amazing woman. So much class. I really love her.

Who would give dislikes to this? Really , why would you? I'm guessing those 5 dislikes are the doctors.

  • @Snavenport Hopefully the dislikes are because they dislike her situation =(

  • Those bastards! I hope those doctors lose sleep every night over how they completely screwed over a legends singing career. This makes me sad :(

  • I would kill myself I was the doctor who destroyed julie andrew's voice for ever

  • @scent07 I know. I smell the stench of envy and sabotage.

  • I remember the first time I saw this on television. I was devastated, and cried even after the interview was finished. This is one of the worst tragedies in the world, and even to this day, I mourn it. Yet her amazing strength proves that you can overcome anything if you confront it. She is now an even better singer because through her books she sings stories to children all around the world.

  • I LOVE YOU JULIE. YOUR VOICE WILL BE CELEBRATED FOREVER.

  • i cried

  • She is incredibly brave - not many people could answer those questions with such grace and composure. Brought tears to my eyes to see her contemplating such a profound loss. She's an inspiration.

  • my god, how can people be so annoying and stupid?? everybody knows that her voice is damaged, and everybody knows that it's hard for her to talk about that, then why does that bloody stupid interviewer still ask her about that?? that's very rude of her (i don't know her name but - honestly - i'm not interested in discovering, either) but julie always answers to the questions like a real lady.

poor dear julie, what happenned to her is just sad :(

  • @JLEPSS96 I am totally agree with you

  • I think the questions are quite straight forward. I don't blame the interviewer but the doctor :"(

  • :(

  • :(:(

  • I dunno who this women is doing the interview but my god I hate her right now!!!

  • Although what happened to Julie's voice is an absolute tragedy, I don't think that blame can be entirely placed on the surgeon. Obviously she had to be overusing her voice, or using it in an unhealthy to get to the point of needing surgery. Don't get me wrong, I love Julie.... this is just food for thought.

  • I'm in tears after seeing this interview. Really. Julie is definitely my favourite actress of all time, and after saw her talking about her vocal problems with that stupid interviewer that should go to hell...I do not know how she managed to hold throughout the interview with that attitude so serene. She really is a lady full of strength. I LOVE JULIE <3

  • oh you were so right i need some tissues.... when she sang in princess diaries 2 i needed some tissues then too... truly one of the greats : )

  • This is so sad. Poor woman.

  • you guys know that Julie would have been breifed before the actual interview.,.. she knew the questions.

  • I think im going to cry

  • this is devastating guys. God doesn't exist . What an injustice

  • Barbara Walters needs to lose her voice.

  • :[

  • That last question made me cry, I will admit. She had and still has and amazing voice. How hard it must have been to go through that.

  • It has been almost fourteen years, and yet I tear up when I hear Julie talk about her desire to sing again. She is a true lady, classy and will always be first in my love of actors.

  • Is anyone else crying?

  • @mikimoo327 Like a little girl with a skinned knee...

  • @mikimoo327 i know i am. singing is like breathing to me and i just think i would die if someone told me i could never do it again. thats probably the bravest lady i've ever seen.

  • the interviewer seems rude.. yes.

but she does ask what's on everyones mind, which makes her rude.. so i thank her for asking, and i am grateful i am not the one who was given those questions to ask

  • Heartbreaking.

  • i felt like she wanted to cry :(

  • It 's so tough watching her process her grief and trying to maintain her dignity. Julie Andrews is truly a class act!

  • Oh. Baba Wawa. Shut yo mouth.

  • Do'nt like the interviewer. Julie was trying to be hopeful about her situation, but the interviewer wanted drama at Julie's expense. Awful!

  • @lgtvlsqz That's Barbara Walters for you, she does that to everyone. It's the interviewer's job to ask the most intense questions, even if it means asking very personal, almost rude negative ones. It's very annoying but that's her job. Most people, like Julie try not to be phased by it. Julie is specatcular.

  • one of the classiest women this world has ever had the pleasure of knowing and hearing <3

  • the interviewer is annoying. she's so cold! i love julie andrews!!

  • I'm a professional singer. Even with all the singing I do in my professional life, sometimes I'll just be hanging around the house and I feel the need to burst in to song. That sounds ridiculous, I know, but it's true. I can't imagine NOT being able to do that. It's such a release. My heart just breaks for her.

  • Love Julie.. Mary Poppins especially makes my life that much better when Im down. :)

  • there is little one can say when they see for themself that their idol may not sing again. a state of sadness, shock and disbelief crashes over you; and that is just a fan.

I cannot begin to imagine what she would be feeling but if anyone can recover from something like that it will be Julie Andrews; her strength, passion and sheer talent will pull her through. she will always be blessed with the sound of music; and she WILL sing once more <3

  • She is so strong and has so much class, I would have been broken into tears having to talk about an issue like that if it happened to me.

  • There are very few women as classy and respectable as her nowadays, a damn shame if you ask me.......and they didn't just mess up her career, they ruined a part of who she is

  • Your heart will be blessed with the sound of music, and you'll sing once more~~~

    Bless Julie Andrews.

  • que asco de tia, hija puta! i haven´t bad words enough to describe that slut.

    viva julie!!!

  • If anyone can get their voice back after something like that....it will be Julie Andrews.

  • She is such a strong woman ! I don't know where her strength comes from but its amazing!

  • her voice is back? God helped her i love her and Him sooo much! God bless Julie!

  • @awesomebananna her voice hasn't come back really - she has a new style whereby using a talk/sing technique when she performs. Sadly she is still yet to sing the way she used to or reach high notes.

  • thanks god she recover her voice and she is singing as good as she did before ... here are some videos of her concerts this year

  • It has always bugged me that she lost her singing voice, I grew up watching like Mary Poppins over and over again and I loved her singing voice.

  • I really dislike Barbara Walters right now. This interview was needlessly cruel!

  • It surprises me and shocks me when I heard that a famous person like her was "wounded" by an American doctor. I mean, one assumed money would pay for a professional. That's soooooooooooooo sad. I've always loved her as a singer and as an actress and as a person - although I do not know her person, she always seemed to be a Lady. God bless her with a small miracle allowing her to have her voice again and us.

  • I'm glad that she have been able to keep music and art in her life through acting and writing. She's such a talented person in so many ways.

  • I hate Barbara... she was pushing and pushing it... she wanted Julie to cry I'm sure but I'M SO proud of her for holding it together SO WELL. She IS and will always be the most beautiful voice, FOREVER... regardless of what happens

  • 5:37 OMFG T_T

  • I still cannot believe it.

But you know what? Julie Andrews yes, she "had" a wonderful voice-I will believe that one day a miracle will happen, for me she still HAS a wonderful voice-but she also IS a wonderful actress and person. And the day that she will sing again is not far from us.

  • Oh man...this made me cry...

  • I think everyone who's ever seen or heard Julie Andrews will always view her as royalty.... She just has this beautiful air about her

  • jesus barbara fricken walters!!!! she's such a BAD interviewer! CLEARLY we're talking to JULIE here. YES. her voice is a touchy subject...IT'S HER VOICE...oh my god..this whole second half was like taking a knife to julie's back and twisting it with each question!

I feel terrible for Julie here =/ ..I could feel her pain right at the end..she's so strong and such an idol to millions including myself..<3

  • @flymetothemoon143 I agree with you! She just kept going on and on... Its like Barbara was not going to be happy until Julie said...."I am gonna committ suicide if I can't sing..." What an ass Barbara was...for sure!

  • Barbara Walters is such a cunt.

  • I love Julie <3 her voice will remain beautiful for ages and ages. she is a beautiful person inside and out and I'm glad that she is still in the spotlight.

  • I love Julie so much she is my idol,i look up to her so highly.

  • I’ve been respectfully in love with this woman since I was 7 years old! There aren’t many women out there that illuminate such elegance, such poise, such natural beauty. Maybe she can’t sing anymore, but we’ve been blessed and honoured that we can hear her singing a few of her ‘favourite things’ immortalised on film! What a truly lovely, beautiful lady! There is only 1 Mary Poppins. There is only1 Maria von Trapp. Btw, there is only 1 My Fair Lady! ;-) All, in the 1 and only, Julie Andrews!

  • devastating

  • i can't believe at the questions.... Who would not want to hear Julie Andrews sing??

  • Haha Barbara! Julie sang in the princess diaries!

  • I wanna punch Barbara in the face. -_-

  • I was unaware that she could no longer sing until just now. I am so heart broken. She is an amazing person whose voice will live on forever.

  • @TabZillaRawr She can! It's not what it used to be but it's still beautiful and radiant.

  • same throat operation happened to Ms Bonnie Tyler...

  • Comment removed

  • Oh christ. I still can't believe this happened to the goddess of voice. Reign Julie, reign.

  • The last question brought a lump to my throat...with the background of the sound of music just made it more heartbreaking!!!!

  • @hh2fan I completely agree.

  • @hh2fan Her face just fell and got so heartbroken at that last question. It is such a horrible thought.

  • y'all know that barbra walters doesnt WRITE the questions right? its just her job to ask them. the lovely julie andrews just showed she can handle herself without people flipping nuggets over how 'harsh' and 'insensitive' barbara was. that being said, the qustions the PRODUCERS wrote were a little bit harsh and insensitive. but i absolutely love julie!

  • Julie Andrews is one of the best singers I have ever heard and it is just wrong and cruel that this beautiful and wonderful gift was taken away. She has touched millions with her enchanted voice and now we may never hear it again. This is a horrible tragedy. Even though it is brutal to us, her fans, can you begin to image how Julie feels? My heart goes out to her. I'm crying as I write this.

  • Oh my god!!! That's so sad!! At the end I was almost crying!! I love Julie Andrews and she will have the most beautiful voice forever!! :)

  • When they were talking about sueing, what did they mean? Sue who for what? The doctors?

  • how did she get voice problems? like for her to get the surgery? did they say in the interview what caused her to have to get the surgery? she over sing too much?

  • God, i wish some people just go on singing forever. Julie Andrews was on my list, and i am hearbroken :(

  • Great job for Julie to keep her ground when Barbara was trying to break her down to tears. All I can say, is I had tears at the end. The song they had from "The Sound of Music" in the background at the end of the interview just made me cry, because they were talking about how she may never sing again, and the lyrics were "And I will sing once more." What a remarkable and classy lady!

  • You know what Barbara? Fuck you.

  • Wow.

  • What a world we live in when Julie Andrew's voice is taken away. What a remarkable woman.

  • I had no idea that was the reason she stop singing to hear it breaks my heart and I can't imagine not ever being able to sing again I love singing I love Julie Andrews and in some small way I can see how she feels I could never stop singing. I would sue to but I think Julie Andrews is one of the nicest people in the world and I don't think she will sue until she no's if she can sing again or not. We love you Julie and we hope can sing again.

  • she is very strong to hold her tears but it is a tragedy what happened to her voice and yes she should sue those a-holes who done that to her voice they ruined her singing career and her happiness

  • The reporter looks like she's going to fall asleep in 3 minutes...

I love Julie Andrews. I love how she sings well before and after her throat problems and I absolutely love her acting!

  • What an dear. And HELL YEAH, she should sue! If she doesn't, I WILL.

  • @klickenpod she did

  • Julie is so classy. I really commend her for how she reacted in this interview. She's a true beauty. :)

  • It's hard seeing my favorite actress getting irritated by someone who has no right to be pushing her like that. I praise her for not letting Barbara break her, but you can tell she just wants to get it all over with. It's so rude and disrespectful and Barbara doesn't need to keep asking these dumb questions that just require common sense. Julie Andrews has had an unfortunate experience happen to her, but that does not degrade her wonderful acting talent.

  • OMG this is sooooooooo sad :( u kind of feel like someone staded u right through the heart after watching this :( the loss of Julie's voice is just like someone dying :( :(

  • God I hate Barbara Walters! She just kept pushing the idea of Julie's voice never getting better! UGH! There are not words to describe how horrible Julie's problem is, it is pretty much a crime to have lost such a voice. But I have heard that she is slowly getting better so maybe there is hope!

  • I think Barbara should piss the fuck off.

  • I'm from Belgium so i don't really know this barbara, but I agree, She's a bitch.

    We (l) Julie forever.

  • This is so unfair, she is the most glamorous singer and i love her!!!:),

  • Barbara Walters has no tact .... Could she show a bit more respect? I agree she was being a bitch!!!

  • this doesnt make me sad at all. i love julie andrews, shes really one of the best. with or without her voice, she is still the best. so why is everyone so sad? it should be enough just to see her smile.

  • i'm not sure why everyone is getting mad at Barbra Walters for the questions she askes in this interview, her job is to ask the questions no one else is.......its her job!!! the reason all of you people watched this was because of the topic "Julie talking about her voice". now I love julie andrews! but im sure she didnt go into this blindly not know what was going to happen!!!!

  • thee interviewer is such a bitch!!! does she have to be so harsh? Julie we love you forever no matter what your vioce is like!

    xxxxx

  • @AliDavies150 I know. This is why I hate the media.

  • The most tragic story ever. I remember watching this when it first aired. After it was over I cried for hours.

  • Julie Andrews and Jeanette MacDonald--the most heavenly voices ever. And both classy ladies. Thank you, Julie, for all you gave us. I pray your voice will return. You handled Barbara Walter's painful, intrusive questions with diginity and class. you touched my heart....

  • Wow Barbara Waters is a bitch. At the end she asked what Julie would do if she couldn't sing again about three times, she just wouldn't stop until she got Julie to break.

  • Barbara, you're a c*nt, and I REALLY don't use that word loosely.

You just completely demoralised one of the greatest women, no no, people to ever grace this Earth. I hope you're proud you bitch. And playing that lyric at the end was so cruel.

Good for you Julie Andrews for holding your own. You're an inspiration to us ALL and you are still my hero, voice or no voice!
