It's too bad that he had to die before receiving this award, although he seemed to be the kind of guy that would just wanted to smile and play his music. R.I.P., Ronno.
Mick is my favorite guitarist of all time. To me few others come close to him. I learned so much from listening, really listening to him. A crushing thing to have lost him so early. He had even greater things ahead of him.
Some uncle you have! Where would one even begin? "My uncle wrote the string arrangement for 'Life On Mars.' " Does his own makeup. And...oh yeah, he can play."
I met Mick at 1st Ave in Minneapolis in the late '80's. His tone was immediate, singular, that flex of sinew. Him.
I'm a player too, was working Mnpls at the time, and we talked guitars for a bit. He was gracious, genuine, in the moment. I tried not to pee myself.
I loved Mick and listening to these people speak about him makes me happy they cared for him so much. I still laugh when I listen to him sing "Billy Porter." Alice Cooper's comments about how far-reaching his influence has been were right on the mark. He deserves every bit of credit people give him!
When I'm in Heaven and get to pick my fav. Rocking Roll All-Star Band - The first thing I do is pick "Mick Ronson" . I can figure out if I'm gonna go with keith Moon or Bonzo or who ever later.
"Once bitten twice shy"... listen to the solo... and listen to the SOUL of rock and roll... Mick gave rock ballz, melody and "playing always on the egde!"

I saw J. Geils Band as a kid ( Cape Code ) Mass.
The 2 back up bands were Ian Hunter Band with MICK RONSON & The other was Joan Jett and her loosers.
She must forget meeting him or to high in her van,
>Big huge hit .
" I love Rockin Roll !! "Is that a frig-in re make?That song >bubble gum.
I was 15yrs old and I knew who he was.
She even forgets warming up the stage for Rocking Roll Gods !
Shame on her !
Plus I never liked her and can never figure out why others do.
She always sucked.

Ronson was one of my first guitar idols along with Richie Blackmore. His playing on those Bowie records was just so original and so killer.
When I first saw pictures of Randy Rhoads, I thought, "he's a dead ringer for Mick Ronson!"
In any event, Mick, Rory Gallagher and Paul Kossoff all left us way too early.
