I'm curious to know whether this is available on an audio recording anywhere? I searched iTunes for this, but couldn't find it.... I'd love to buy an audio recording of this, if one exists. This is probably one of the most superb versions I have ever heard.
@CJSweatt I don't know if this is available or not. However, I just purchased a Requiem by Von Karajan which features L. Price, F. Cossotto, L. Pavarotti, and N. Ghiaurov (sic) which is magnificent. They were all in their early years and I think you would enjoy it.
Getting diction out a choir is quite difficult :) Though with if the director and choir but dedicate them self to clear Diction its possible! I am always sure to keep the text clear so the audience has full aesthetic awareness. As you see here, professional or not, it adds an incredible amount to the performance :)
This may sound trivial...but did the chorus actually performed the whole Requiem by memory?? Wow...this piece is quite complex itself with the notes and key changes. Imagine the practice involved!
Lol. Yeah, you can actually catch the baritone soloist sneaking a peek at 1:13. Another thing I notice bout German choirs are how they perform - stand upright, look straight ahead, hardly any movements except the mouths. But yet still manage to sound so expressive.
Stop.Chores mitgesungen habe.
This portion of the Verdi Requiem was well done by this group. I can't think of any way in which this performance of the Lacrimosa could have been improved upon.
It can. If Ghiaurov, Ghena Dimitrova and Luciano Pavarotti sang it. There is a recording with Karajan, Pavarotti and Nicolai Ghiaurov, but a pitty Ghena Dimitrova isn't on the same recording too... Anyways, this recording is on a high level as well. Seems like Maestro Herbert von Karajan favored Bulgarians, this honors me.
E` stata messa appena oggi. L'ho appena vista.
Thanks so much for posting this. It's so impressive. This is my favorite part of the Requiem. Karajan captures the majesty of the Lacrymosa so well. I like all the singers, except Carreras, who sounds really strained. If the Carreras from the 1973 Traviata clips I just watched was singing in this Requiem, then the cast would be pretty perfect.
Yah, for years now that's pretty much the only response one could have to Carreras without kidding themselves.
When you mentioned the 73 Traviata clips, I immediately knew what you meant. His voice sounded absolutely incredible there, and the emoting and interpretation were as perfect as anyone ever got. But even then there were "issues", I have the complete recording of that Traviata and it's missing a whole Alfredo aria in it (O mio rimorso). :(

I like Verdi's Requiem much more than Mozart's. Verdi's has such amazing power, especially Dies Irea and Tuba Mirum.

i guess the answer is: Germans.... and Karajan....
though the 4 soloists have their partition..
