Just saying "this is a tribute to..." doesn't qualify it as one. If you appreciate his word choice and delivery so much, why not show that in the song? Maybe write some Mitch Hedberg style jokes and set them to music. Or try to represent his act in music form, playing with listeners' expectations and such. Maybe that's what you did. If so, maybe you could tell us specifically how he influenced what parts of the song. Increase our appreciation a lot with a little bit of description.
