Just a note: I'm not talking about a dog that was a pet, this dog or dog/coyote crossbreed was feral (wild) it's not the type of animal that could have been adopted, sadly, it would have just got the shot, a lot more humane, and having had to let my pet go to sleep rather than suffer the effects of anti-freeze poisoning, which some moron left out (I've even read of some doing this on purpose). I agree, there are also yeast/fungal skin infections which can also cause the skin to become thick and deformed, and intense itch causes prolonged chewing and licking on legs- over time can deform joints. The hairless skin damaged creatures also have no protection against sunburn. Looking at the teeth, it wasn't terribly old either- really kind of sad- and there are sometimes domestic/wild hybrids running about.
