@ski102426 Ovechkin's team took a defensive playstyle this season, meaning naturally he would have less opportunities to score, and there's nothing close to a guarantee that Crosby would've kept up his scoring pace. If anything, the way Stamkos slowed down after going a goal per game for 20 games shows that Crosby's pace would've never kept up. Not to mention the fact that if Crosby DID keep up his scoring pace, he still wouldn't have met Ovechkin's 65 goal season.

Even Ovechkin can't do everything at once. But with your mental capacity, I doubt you know any difference between defense and offense. If the team as a whole plays more defensively, they will not be in the zone as often, and thus he will not have as many good scoring opportunities. That's a pretty basic concept that you seem to miss.

In the 09 playoffs, Ovechkin scored 11 goals. 4 were with his team trailing, 5 were in the third period. Last playoffs, 2 of 5 were with his team behind in the third. This season, Ovechkin scored 5 goals. 3 were with his team trailing, 3 were in the third period. Over half of his goals came in the last period, and 6/25 with his team trailing.

WAS to stay relevant has to put their eggs in seperate baskets, there is no comparable player on WAS who can compare to Malkin, PIT has the advantage of that 1-2 punch. @ski102426 Ovechkin's team took a defensive playstyle this season, meaning naturally he would have less opportunities to score, and there's nothing close to a guarantee that Crosby would've kept up his scoring pace. If anything, the way Stamkos slowed down after going a goal per game for 20 games shows that Crosby's pace would've never kept up. Not to mention the fact that if Crosby DID keep up his scoring pace, he still wouldn't have met Ovechkin's 65 goal season.

@ski102426 The ENTIRE point of playing defensively is to sacrifice offensive opportunities of your own in order to reduce the opposition's offensive opportunities. Even Ovechkin can't do everything at once. But with your mental capacity, I doubt you know any difference between defense and offense. If the team as a whole plays more defensively, they will not be in the zone as often, and thus he will not have as many good scoring opportunities. That's a pretty basic concept that you seem to miss.

@kdfsjljklgjfg Thanks I didn't know those players were defensemen idk how many different drugs you are on but you contradict yourself time and time again. Kovalchuk went from a team that didn't really have a style and adapted to a new system and his point drop is mainly from playing with rookies half the season and being on a team that was lost at sea but he still managed around 30 but I'm sure you didn't notice they were struggling.

@kdfsjljklgjfg And if you ever played center or watch any hockey game they are clearly the workhorses of the team and are by far superior in the defensive aspect of the game as well as that a defensive centerman ALWAYS wins the selke. Now in your warped mind your pretty much saying you can't compare centers to wingers. All you look at is numbers Ovie might have more take aways and hits but he hardly back checks and cracks under pressure two proven facts.

@ski102426 Proven facts? I can prove statistically that Ovi, if anything, EXCELS under pressure. And your logic is "Crosy plays center so he's better at defense"? Centers are expected to be better, that doesn't mean they are better. A defensive centerman ALWAYS wins the selke, you say? Out of the 21 players that have won the Selke, 5 have been wingers. Let's even ignore wingers and defensemen. Crosby still would've tied for 84th in the league amongst centers. He's not great defensively.

@kdfsjljklgjfg Excels my ass did you watch the Tampa series?????? he looked TERRIBLE for a WHOLE series. My logic is you overlook faceoffs. your gonna argue 5 were wingers? wow lets not take things so seriously guy. I have watched Crosby save goals on the the goal line I have seen him win big faceoffs he back checks like he is possessed. I like the way Ovie plays I like his physicality but other than hitting and shooting he doesn't have much to offer.

@ski102426 Crosby also would've tied for 84th in the league in takeaways amongst centers. Since a large part of defence is getting the puck back, he failed in that regard. He would've tied for 40th for centers at blocked shots. Again, hardly a standout. He would've tied for 82nd in hits for centers. So let's see, he sucks at getting the puck back from the other team, is merely average at preventing pucks from reaching the next, and sucks at wearing down the other team. He's not great on defense

@ski102426 Did you pay any attention to the player? In the 08 playoffs, Ovechkin scored 4 goals. 3 were in the final period, and 2 were game winning goals. In the 09 playoffs, Ovechkin scored 11 goals. 4 were with his team trailing, 5 were in the third period. Last playoffs, 2 of 5 were with his team behind in the third. This season, Ovechkin scored 5 goals. 3 were with his team trailing, 3 were in the third period. Over half of his goals came in the last period, and 6/25 with his team trailing.

@kdfsjljklgjfg And the first few of those Selke's was from another great LW, Mr. Bob Gainey, Crosby could take a lesson or two from Gainey's impeccable defense and positional play. This has been an intriguing debate to look at, but I gotta agree, Crosby is rather slack on defense.

@ski102426 For the record, I have never said Ovechkin is awesome at defense. I have simply been trying to put forth the point that you can't call Ovechkin a one trick pony when he's rather adequate on defense, and not call Crosby a one trick pony when the stats all point to him not being all that great.

@ski102426 The team dropped from 3.86 goals per game to 2.67. It's common sense that means the players weren't capitalizing on opportunities enough as a whole. They changed their goals against per game from 2.77 to 2.33. If anything, that means that the team SUCCEEDED in adapting to the system.

@ski102426 Even putting Ovechkin aside, let's assume Crosby played the full year, and kept up his pace on his stats. He would've had 30 takeaways, good for a tie for 232nd in the league. He would've also tied for 263rd in the league in hits. WHAT A DEFENSIVE STUD! To be in the top 250 in takeaways! Wow!

@kdfsjljklgjfg Crosby is also way more consistent than both of those players. I don't care who has a cup or who won this many trophies or who has the best numbers none of that matters to me the biggest thing I see is that when a player is criticized for not being good at a certain part of his game that the next year they improve on it and I have yet to see that from Ovie. Like you said they played more defensive this year and he had a bad year. Why? because thats not how he plays.

@spriggs20 i never was a big fan of crosby but u cant say he isnt skilled, and u realise alot of top scorers are told not to be blocking shot and such in contracts to avoid injury, unless is absolutely necessary.

@gmoneyusc07 Differance between those guys and Crosby is that they are complete players that will play for whats on the front more than they would for what's on the back. It's obvious by watching Crosby he only cares about the name that's printed on the back.

Ovechkin isn't putting up numbers like he has in the last few years but still leading the league in goals doesnt mean your the best, it means going all out every game like ovechkin does. Cindy cries when he gets hit. Ovechkin deals the hits and helps his team win games even when he doesnt score all the goals
