16 valves and an intercooled turbo in 1984 was quite exotic technology on such a car. Remember many Japanese cars were tooling around with carburettors and Audis, Benzes and BMWs had 2 valves/cylinder. It took quite a while for others to catch up. Then, oddly enough, SAAB quit giving the market many meaningful innovations.

Thanks for posting. I've got one of these puppies (8 valve). Still runs like new, still a blast to drive, incredibly well built/engineered cars.

@10101MB I had an 8-valve from '83. What a machine. Even with a new GTI under my arm, I still miss it.
