We used to do this with our bicycles for the winter to ride on frozen creeks. We had to cut the sidewalls from a junk tire as a liner against the inner tube...We just used wood screws though.
Too bad they'd all wear down the first time you hit a gravel patch or anything other then ice. That is why you have to use hardened steel not just nails or concrete nails like is used here.

HOLY FRICKEN AWESOME! I am moving to Northern Idaho next winter and I wont have a vehicle other than my 1975 Honda CB360 and I am definitely going to do this!
Are these nails high carbon? How do they wear? I have tried several different types of pics and only the carbide ones will hold a point. Very cool concept!
Guys, for the front Tyre I used special constructional nails. Name on the box says Powers Fasteners, marked as DN22M (22mm). On the rear 45mm long, 4mm wide Russian, also specially designed, constructional nails.
Grips is perfect on the ice and on a ridden snow, nails are still there :)
Hey guys/gals, there are many comments asking about the studs and where to get them. Those spikes are concrete drive pins. Search your local hardware store or simply search on eBay for "hammer drive pins"..... there are lots of auctions on ebay AND they are cheap..... now THUMBS UP so other people can see this.
excellent idea!....just as i said hummm...i wonder if those nuts will stay on?....zzzzzzit....out comes the welder!..lol!...it seems like the washer on the inside of the tire may be a little small...do they pull through...and how do they hold up?..i used carbide snowmobile studs on mine....big $ for those though....thanks for the vid!...
dude that look awsome and very profetional looking were do i get those bolts or whatever those were i did kinda the same thing were i take a bolt washer and nut weld each one look ok and work good but very very sloppy look ing on my tire could you help a guy out plz thanks

Hey Cool Video" enjoyed it tell me did you use inertubes? also did you line the inside of the tyre? have you had a cirtificate test on the tyre? excellent work.
just curious do you have tubed tires? or is there enough of a seal created that no air escapes?
