i love this song but murder in the city is the song that did it for me. "Always remember there was nothing worth sharing like the love that let us share our name." Dank.
@taylera I heard I and Love and You once on Absolute Radio, went out the next day and bought the CD, now they're my favourite band. That was about a year ago, seeing them for the first time in June. Incidentally, I'm from Surrey ^_^ <3
Music moves everyone differently. I think the Avett's found a unique sound (and added beautiful, honest lyrics) that resonates with many people and makes these people feel alive and good in a way you don't get from any other medium. It's not going to effect everyone the same, but I personally have been moved by them more than I can relate in words... and it means the world to me to have found it. I hope you can find an artist who does the same for you.
you know what really annoys me... how if a comment gets six thumbs downs it gets hidden... that really annoys me... i know you can still click to see it but idk... just because people dont agree with it doesnt make it an invalid opinion... i love the avetts but the guy below me doesnt.... doesnt mean that his comment is any worse than mine. ha sorry just my two cents

for some reason i have given these guys a try a couple of times but just cant feel it. Yes it is different and i like different but this is just boderline annoying.
Everyone's entitled to their opinion and mine is that I disagree with yours. But it's one of those "if I have to explain it, you'll probably never understand"
Go to a live show, if you don't get it then, well...I'm sorry.
Maybe you could help me out and explain it. I am not trying to be an ass, but i just dont see it and am open to hear what you have to say. I do agree with the fact that i probably need to see them live and will look around to see when they are in my area sometime soon.
TAB's music *affects* me. Great performers, contagious energy, harmony that hits a sweet spot. All good, but it goes deeper.
Their lyrics are full of emotion, honesty and MEANING, something so missing from modern music & dare I say life in general. They say what they mean & mean what they say. That's not *just* entertainment. It's more like going to church.
Not everyone values that or even wants that in their music, but when I find something so life affirming, I embrace it.
So it appears that they will be playing this weekend in columbia for the st pats festival. Looks like i get a chance to see them live afterall. I will give you my review on the show next week.
yay for old school :)

From the first Gleam, Emotionalism and Mignonette are both killer in my list.
Lyrically, though, EVERY song is fantastic

Any English Avett fans? I heard 'em on a random late night radio station & ever since they've been THE definitive band in my life...

Mostly the college crowd were really listening to them--but other than that .....their music doesn't stick

It's so honest and pure. They might be a little out there, but it sure feels great to belt out the chorus!

"When I Drink" is not their best song, but it still follows the equation. Take something real from life, write it and sing it.
I recommend you listen to "Murdered In The City"
If you don't get it then...well...I'm not sure you ever will. Thanks for asking though and being open to the idea that maybe you could understand...
