Won't someone please put up her piano version she sang with Werba (did she ever record it with Moore?)? It's so much richer with the postlude than Mottl orchestration.
This certainly is one of the finer voices for Strauss that I have heard. In addition to a pure tone, her voice is focused in approaching and sustaining notes...no bad habits.
I am familiar with her singing because my voice teacher, Barbara C. Law and she studied with the same teacher, Mme. Paola Novikova in NYC in 60's. Also, Dame Kiri te Kanawa's teacher, Vera Rozsa, also studied with Mdme. Novikova. One can hear the same bright quality in both voices. Wonderful!
This glorious singer has so much soul. There are plenty of singers with an ampler sound but very, very few indeed who can weave such vocal magic! I could listen to and watch her sing all day long......
I wonder if young singers study this phenominal person. Her Strauss, for me, is as close as a singer can come to the ideal. Does anyone know if she recorded the "Four Last Songs"? I would go far out of my way for that.
The magic hair helmet is killer. I love it and wish women still put these on their heads. She was one the greatest singers of the last century. I think it's almost impossible to find this kind of "sound" nowadays-the interpretive skill as well-nearly extinct.

Me too. I can't get enough of her voice. Can you imagine if she'd sung the Four Last Songs? That would have been something.
