When you place your mouse over the grayed-out buildings you will see what their requirements are. For the Toolmakers shop you need 240 citizen. As soon as your city holds 240 citizen you will be granted building capabilities for those buildings.

this game has so much to offer indeed. IT far beats out age of empire and the likes of those types by giving the player so much control over what he can do. Its like combining sim city with age of empires or any of those type of rts games. They blew it with leaving multiplayer out though, and then releasing a future pack venice later. This game was def a sleeper hit, and if you give it a chance and like these types you will be hooked

i can't think in this game, too much crap goes on. Someone wants me to sink trade ships while someone else is telling me production is halted while someone else is asking me for gold for an alliance and all this crap goes on so fast, all piles up. I just can't think or focus! then I build a farm and forget it needs a field, so i have to demolish it and rebuild and it's just a pain in the ass. Is there a way to slow it all down???? I feel rushed.

That build is inefficient. Too many roads make for very tool travel time, making a single warehouse not handle 4 farms. There are much better layouts.

@gsclanleader The travel time between the warehouse to those production buildings isn't good at all. There are builds that can easily by used to fill any island and be fit in almost no amount of space. Four hemp plantations can be backed in the same space he packs two and travel time reduced to 0.2 seconds. If he made a 32k city with that waste of space then he'd probably get to 85k using space efficient builds you can find on wiki.

@tf2cheats No, it depends on the farm. Ones like Cider & Hemp will require 4 fields to have 100%, it says when you click on the farm, it will have a fence sign with something like 3/4 which means you have 3 out of the required 4 farms for 100%.

@AndyJ1992 the only possible solution I know to achieve 100% without putting all fields of a farm is by placing a noria next to the farm - this works for okzident-farms too if you have the addon. but this "trick" is rather an exploit as in the basic game the increase in production was only possible for oriental farms with norias next to them - even the patch-notes didn't mention that norias now work for okzidental farms.

ok i just got this game and im hoping somebody can help me here....Im not having any real problems until i try to put down some date farms...I cant get em to grow...no matter what I do it says the ground is infertile! I put 2 of those water buildings next to one of my farms and still nothing...didnt even seem like it did anything....any suggestions would be appreciated...

@Shadownian Each island has certain things that can grow on them (i.e. specific fertility), do up on the top of the screen where you see the name of the island when you're looking at it you'll see pictures of what can grow there (e.g. a wheat symbol if wheat can be grown). So you'll need to use certain islands for certain growths. Animals can be herded on any island. A '?'-symbol means you can buy a seed from an NPC, put it in the strong room in warehouse and activate to allow that fertility.

Ok, in 1701 you could have a city be 100% aristocrats.

You can't do that in 1404. You must have peasants if you have citizens, you must have citizens to have patricians, etc. So you can never have 100% noblemen.

To get trade privileges you need to place more peasant houses.

You can as well receive Upgrades in the "Skills" for that, so you`ll needs less Tier-2-Nomads or Hobos for Trading Rights.
