Please everyone here, STOP with that "Phil's BigBand" or " Nothing without Hackett and Peter"...
Peter wasn't in the band for a veeeery long time and from all these Live Versions I have heard, Phil sung this Song ALWAYS better, even in this Live Version, the Three Sides live Version is far from the world :D
And Daryl plays different for sure and while it doesn't always fit, like in Firth of Fifth, his faster playing fits perfectly to In the Cage. I wish they would tour again :(
This was definitely the best of the Genesis songs. It was the first one I ever listened to when I was 8(or younger). I relistened to this song so mnay times. I thought that one day the tape would break. JUST FANTASTIC. :)
There has to be a way to block these comments. Just watch the video and listen to the music. If you like it, fair enough. If you didn't, turn it off and don't come back. I'm sick of reading pretentious nonsense from know nothing individuals who think they know something about music. You bore the arse off me, you brain dead morons.
I can't take people bashing Phil for driving Genesis into thrash. First of all i don't agree, lots of the later Genesis was very good. Sure some of it was crap, but even though there wasn't much prog left, most of it was still good music. And Mike and Tony wasn't being dragged by Phil in any direction; they all (like since the beginning of Genesis) had the same share in songwriting. So stop trashing Phil, he's a far better musician than any of you will ever be.
@RectumPilum The purpose here was not to say that Phil Collins is not a good musician. I have more against these stupid videos the group appeared in at its later stage. Maybe if they'd spent more time on their music rather than videos, there would have been no crap at all.
That 50 second part of Cinema Show, the line they play twice but the second time with the Mellotron, is the most beautiful piece of music to have ever existed.
It's not likely we will see Peter Gabriel with Genesis again. Too bad. Phil Collins brought Genesis at its worst in some occasions ; when I see Banks and Rutherford in 'I can't dance', I get sick. Boy do I miss the Cinema Show and Watcher of the skies era.
@stopvideosplaymusic Funny enough most of the sound change in Genesis came from Mike and Tony- not Phil. Frankly I love that Genesis cant be pinned into one category. Their music spans different genres like Rush or Queen.
can you see any of todays so called rock stars being able to generate an audience of 500,000 people in 30 yrs. Genesis Wera and will always be one of the greatest

Phil just announced ,he was completely retired from music ,cant play drums because of a medical condition,he is devoting his time to his kids and writing a book about the Alamo ,for which he has the most extensive collection of artifacts in the world ..he really is into the Texas revolution , he was told he is a reincarnated Alamo defender
I think that Genesis' early material really benefits from the modern synths and sound systems. It sounds way better than the album version - of course, Phil sings instead of Peter Gabriel, and he doesn't deliver the same artistic vision that Gabriel originally intended.
@onealreid1 - Understand - that is like saying Lennon is not like McCartney. Peter and Phil are 2 different styles, performers, writers. In a perfect world, we'd have them both up there and still touring.
it's funny how the keyboard patches tony is using for the chords is perfect and the lead sound is awful, at least in the 80's both parts were awful but here it sounds like he finally decided to bring back the hammond and mellotron but stuck with a roland d50 for solos, but what an awsome performance this and carpet crawlers i have to say phil always did much better than peter
@shire2005 If you notice the red bars that the person is running behind it appears that he is in a cage, i too didnt notice it till later, but the person breaks threw the cage after a while.
This is one my favorite songs to watch from this show. The effects are mind blowing, and Phil does a pretty good job. Though, Id prefer him on Drums and Peter on Vocals again.
Sure they did. The obvious, safe choices from Duke, Genesis, Invisible Touch, We Can't Dance, plus the tired ol' In the Cage/Cinema Show medley. The only surprise was Ripples...
@kirklott Good point. Ripples hadn't been performed since 1978, during the And Then There Were 3 tour (and, to a lesser extent, during the 1980 Duke tour). But it's a good setlist nonetheless.
This is like listening to Pink Floyd without Waters and Gilmour, like listening to Rush without Lifeson and Lee, like listening to Yes without Anderson and Howe, but this has been a beautiful performance and a good one after all, quite an effort for the great Phil Collins band ...
Prog Rock Widows, That's a good one !, Ohhhhh how much I wish the Great Phil Collins Band would've played Karma Kameleon and Can't Hurry Love again for you Newly Wedds, you would've loved it, isn't that right ! Wish you the best in your new life cause ours is just Magnificent, because We're still married to Prog Rock ... Cheers!
I LOVE the fact that people are still quarreling about Gabriel or Collins. It means that, 35 years later, they're still relevant and we still care for the band, isn't it great? :)
@ZEPPELIN198, I've got this too. And I'm glad I bought it the day it came out; June 10, 2008. Now, the only places you can find it are in select Walmarts and the Internet.

Love this song, and I loved watching this whole thing on DvD. Really awesome what they do with the backround lights. They don't sound as good without Peter though xD
