  • well Honda engines are still good. They get pretty good power on lower boost. My K20 can take 9psi and get about 400whp with the right turbo and tuning but with my Greddy kit I could probably get 300whp on 9psi

  • Actually he is right. They all run low boost because they are naturally high compression engines. What happens when you run high boost in a high compression engine without proper fuel? It ignites prematurely (detonation) and pushes against the piston, losing you power and fucking up your engine. That's why people switch out pistons for low compression ones. As far as redline is concerned, what is the point of running to 8500 if your turbo is out of it's map by 6500??

  • The motor in the cobalt is made by Saab. get your facts straight. If you crawl underneath one you'll see it says saab on the cross bar, and on the S/C cobalt on the back of the spark plug/coil pack cover it also is engraved SAAB. I've walked G35's and many many many many many many Si's and 350z's. Bottom line under 300hp you're not gonna beat a SS with a good driver, And even if you're over 300hp you might still get walked. 2007 SS/SC

Number two, while I couldn't agree more that the Civic has a nice interior (the SI anyways) and is nicer inside than mine, it's slow, it's common, it's the typical high school boys dream car and it handles like a boat at high speed on a winding road. It sounds like a sewing machine and has virtually no headroom and less cargo space. So yes....Clap Clap indeed nigga! Aside from interior the new civic hasn't got shit on my SS. ;)

  • I've raced the stock SRT-4 against the SS Cobalt S/C stock, so e the BS people. The SRT-4 won hands down. More HP, and less weight makes a faster better handling car so if you pick up a spec sheet and do some research you can quash these Bullshit rumors yourself. Cobalt S/C is a sweet ride but compare it to an SI Cvic b/c stock the SRT-4 is way out of both of their leagues.

  • SRT-4 is always compared to a SS S/C in the mags....so i dont thing its way out of its league at all. Plus the SRT-4 was an after thought add on to a neon years after it came out...The Cobalt SS was made while the Cobalt was being developed. I rode in both the SS and SRT-4 and the SS was a tiny bit slow but was better to drive and handled better..even most of the mags wil tell ya that...

  • Oh and I get my info through personal experiance and a little thing called research In other words I didnt just go out and start buying/building a car I looked in to who was making the most reliable/effecient motors, after owning several camaros and 2 stangs I was fed up with riding the bus to work and borrowed a buddys DX being amazed in the quality and how much it went for an economy 1.5 I bought a 92 VX the very next day Ive only driven hondas since!

Funny Ive seen none of this attention to detail(being type r motors are hand-assembled and designed by Hondas F1 engineers)in a SRT or an SS, and we wont even get started on quality of the build as we both know Slowbalts and Neons dont have a good track record going for craftsmanship.Oh and my 1.6(again stock) beats S/C SS's in 1/4 I run consistant 14.2s(again stock 1.6, soon to be turbo, buddys so take your garbage and get lost)

  • oh and B16B= capable of 10k with 100% stock bottom end, does 9K stock only needs titanium retainers to handle the 10k.much higher lift than your Ecotec could ever handle while still passing emmisions(its called VTEC and its the only system like it)besides the fact that the ECOTEC would run like garbage off idle. Has a factory port and polish, shorter wider intke runners, larger t.b. higher compression(11:5.1)very short gearing(4.40 or 4.70 FD)and LSD.

  • oh and a 2 liter K can not only put down more tq than both motors before boost(and after if you boost K to truly see whos motors more effeicient or better)but it has a flat tq curve in other words tq builds up quickly and is held fairly steady over the rpm range thanks to I-VTEC

  • for one my B16B makes good tq for a 1.6(but as I said u keep comparing your 2liter powerplants to a 1.6 and 1.8) however even a stock H can throw down 150wtq while still revving out to 8K and making good top end(200hp vs what a N/A 2.4liter SS making 170hp,plz?)and an K20 may not make the same PEAK(peak beeing the key word) tq numbers as ur slowbalt stock for stock but the tq is more consistant in the powerband not to mention it makes MUCH more power up top!

  • @Nettikturbo Actually it does. Its an Ecotec LNF engine, and it has dual camshaft continuously variable valve timing, the equivalent to i-VTEC. Chevys name for this is VVT (Variable Valve Timing)

  • @terraflata @terraflata No. Brother, honest you're not correct in this. Cam Phasing is not the same as Vtec. Vtec, will physically actuate a second set of cam lobes via hydraulic actuation for the followers.  GM has no form of Variable Lift, let alone Variable Profile (which is what VTEC is).

  • @Nettikturbo Touche! Orignal VTEC was a different characteristic of lift, duration and timing through a different set of lobes, while i-VTEC was the addition of cam phasing. Fiat was doing variable lift since the 60's. GM tried it in the 70s. The only peoiple I know of today that have variable lift are Mitsubishi, Subaru, Porsche, Volvo, Toyota, BMW....in fact GM is one of the only ones not using variable lift oddly.

    I wonder why GM hasn't put any effort into valvetrain technology. That is where all of the engineering will be needed in the next 20 years. We're going to be using gasoline for a long time.

    However I am proud of GM for their 3.0 DI V6. 270 horse, NA, no variable lift, or variable duration!

    I pulled one by a nose(a close race) up to 80mph, in my.....wait for it....2000 Grand Prix GT- ahahahh only 200hp(3400lbs!), with 250,000km on it!

Strip both the cobalt ss and srt4, give all three cars the same HP and then see who wins, and it will most likely be the one with more torque

  • more potential? only if you know absolutly nothing about motors. a B16A(the lowliest of the DOHC VTECS)has a better rod ratio than both of them(a good rod ratio is needed to hold the high RPMs necessary in making power in a 4cyl.)Can a cobalt or SRT make over 800WHP on a 100% unmmodded crank? how about pushing the same horespower on a stock head?(both have been done on many B,H,D,and K series motors pushing these numbers)when pushing these motors to 800whp can you too use a stock oil/water pump?

  • you must be mentioning B18C5 which WILL kill an N/A SS in integra and a S/C SS in a civic chasis with a low 14 sec pull but ever heard of K20 capable of 240WHP/180TQ(yes at the wheels) with just KPRO,but even without KPRO a K swapped civic can run high 12s all day long!I know of an B20 packing EF(not that built uses a combo or type r parts) that has a best et of 11.8 on slicks with 100% stock suspension.show me a cobalt that can run high 11s with a 90% stock motor/100% stock suspension

  • i own a civic, just stock, i put a ton of money into audio just for fun, and if honda ever realize how big streett racing is or even just the love for speed, they would release a turbo civic and it would be a good race between the new cobalt and the srt-4..next few years should be interesting to see if a new turbo civic is released

  • Well the civic won, vid tells it all.Now i know the ss and srt-4 come stock with supercharge/turbocharge and the civic dosent but what if the civic did? The civic will still win I now about cars a mechanic for 10+ years and a local track around the coner i see more civics beating srt,ss, My pros gos for the civic and people lets stop hating ok.

  • yeah hes got probably 6-7 grand under the hood.. we got our stock engine.. he has to change his for a better one like lets say a Intergra Type-R B18 engine and the forge it then turbo and bla bla bla.. we put minor bolt on mods and we do low 13's high 12's

  • A turbo ecotec is capable of pushing 500 ponies with just gm performance parts.

  • Yep, GM also announced they are going to be using a Direct-Injection system similar to the MZR23DiSi in the MS3. It Should be a better match-up stock versus stock. I'm just glad they're getting rid of that super-charger(no offense SS guys).

  • damn good racing. Thing with the SRT-4 is that it was rated at 230hp but it was tested/dynoed at 260hp. Its a suprise the Cobalt kept up. Thank god there dropping the supercharger on it!
