  • Im getting this on soon. For 6 months, before i get braces... And hearing from everyone else about how much it sucks... Im scarred :S.

  • @Skettlz ive got as well, but it doesnt hurt. Trust me. The first days are bad u will have problems to speak and to eat...

  • should it be all the way up on the roof of your mouth? mines not all the way up on the roof.

  • @sbl1518 i had mine for a little less then a year

  • i used to have this and the herbst thing.. oh my god when you get this out it feels like heaven.

  • @jordynhamilton8 I have one and I was just wondefring how long you had yours on for?

  • Just got this today. After just 6 hours I'm already wanting it off. So uncomfortable.

  • Until watching this video I, the mom, screwed up my son's expander. The directions from the orthodontist's assistant were poor. I told her I didn't really understand, but she blew me off. I struggled for several days. The, I watched the video and no problems since.

  • Ì'd like to know if I'm gonna have some troubles with my speech... I'm getting my expander next week and I'm so scared u.u... I'm a spanish native speaker, but I'm studying English teaching... and I really need to talk English well...

  • @Miiscolores i got mine yesterday. u do have a lisp at first. and it hurts to talk.

  • i have 1 more question : my mom turned the expander 6 times (: , and atm i didn't got a gap ...is it ussual got a gap ..or just in different causes ?

Gap i mean a space in the frontal teeth.

    ( sry my english )

  • i got it yesterday .. and i turned 1 time..and it hurt me alot!

    Help please : (

  • haha i remember i had a palatal expander and omg the headaches this thing causes.

  • Thank you for clarifying and saving me a trip to the doctor.

  • what happens when you dont turn it daily? im juss wondering...

  • i just wanted to know how you turn it

  • i have a big expander well thats what my dentist said but is there really a difference for size?

  • Nope doesn't hurt. It just feels uncomfortable.

  • omg. i have to get one of those. do they hurt?

  • FYI this thing doesnt hurt, it just puts a pressure on your teeth that feels really effin annoying. but it goes away, less than an hour. But make sure you are ready fo rinse your mouth out ALOT cuz food gets stuck in the top part thingy. but it doesnt hurt, its just annoying. oh you get a lisp really bad when you first get it on, but it goes away after awhile and comes back slightly right after you turn it, but its not too noticable after day 2. if the pressures bothering you, buy a slurpee :P

  • if i already have a gap between my front teeth will it get biggerr? and long after the palatal expander does it take to close the gap? ive heard u can develope a lisp. how long after do i get my normal voice? thankz

  • omg i just got mine today

  • i have dat but no turning in it hmmmmmm

  • thats a bonded RPE, its a little different

  • i just have this in my moth right now but im not turning it any more i just wish this shit was off

  • i have an expander right now. it only hurts for like a couple seconds after you turn it. but its really annoying because food and drinks and stuff always gets stuck on top of it. so you have to brush your teeth and the appliance really good

  • a couple seconds like 5, or a couple seconds like 30?

  • for everyone pain tolerance is different. for me it hurts the first 10 seconds. but after you turn it a lot your mouth gets used to it then it just feels like its tightening.

you have to know that some pain is to be expected. its slowly breaks your jaw so your teeth fit.

    O_O

  • There isn't much pain, the pressure is annoying though. Gives me a narly headache

  • IM 11 AND HAVE TO GET A EXPANDER...please tell me the truth... DO THEY HURT!!!?????!?!?!?!?

  • You probabaly got it already...lol but uhm No it doesnt. Im 11 too, (gunna be 12 in dec 23!) and it did not hurt. The doctor might have to take out some teeth and that might hurt a lil bit but like like screamish. It just widens your gum space a bit and it may be uncomfortable for a lil bit. Its fine.

  • That's awesome looking.

  • does everyone with braces need that?

  • me... Ikinda have braces. only brackets. no wires yet. you can see me in a vid response to either the brday collaboration of makemebad35s birday collab VID RESPONSE or same with Shane Dawsons. if you go there you will see what im talking about. IVE NEVER BEEN MORE NERVOUS ABOUT ANYTHING IN MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I was exaggerating. It was probably after a couple weeks. I can't remember exactly, but I had it in for a good while before the ortho decided I needed two turns a day.

  • ok yea thats more like it. teheheh

  • does that hurt a while afterwards when you turn that key thing because it sure seems like it would! ;S

  • I wish MY dentist would've given me a key like that. Instead I get a dainty little hook, and that's about it. Nearly lost the damn thing down my throat on multiple occasions.

  • wowwy

  • well i dont know what you had. i jsut call mine remoavable braces and they dont hurt what so ever htey are the coolest thing evr

  • thanks for posting

    anxious parent

  • i just got my expander the other day and i tightened it for the first time but i didnt really feel anything tighten. do you think i did it wrong or is it just because it was my first time? thanks

  • yea, the first time and maybe 2 times, you wont feel a thing. then after then, wow, its going to feel weird feeling your jaw actually shifting. after a hour or so, you'll forget the pain.

  • thanks, i actually went to the ortho the other day and he said i was doing it wrong, so the last couple of days it has hurt soo bad!

  • Does it hurt when you turn the key? Seems like it would :S

  • It normally should not hurt when turned. Tell your orthodontist if you are experiencing pain.

  • What would I do without this video!!! THANK YOU!!!

  • Oh thankgod for that :)

  • Does it hurt to remove?

  • No it should not hurt to remove, you may hear some cracking noises as the cement breaks free from the teeth, but it should not hurt.

  • You saved me from many many long trips to the orthodontist!

That is mainly my mom's fault. My mom kept messing up the key turning until we discovered your video (yay).

    Thanks!

P.S. NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER remove this video!
