This show was an extension of Dean's variety show which started in 1965. So Dean was probably exhausted. His son died, and like many fathers, the wind goes out of your sails and life loses its luster when a child dies, at any age.

Don Rickles is one of the few people who can get away with this kind of stuff today. He continues to point out the typical racial stereotypes, including the Jews. I love when he jokes about Blacks, Latinos, and Italians. It's funny, It's entertainment.

I met Don in the green room of the Jimmy Kimmel show and he was very nice.

jgbaren I cannot agree more! Saw these shows as a young man, recently I've seen maybe 5 Rickles roasts to view the roastees. Rickles still makes me cry with some of this stuff. Recently watched The Bad News Bears - Matthau. It felt like I had burst out of some PC-cocoon to breath reality for a couple of hours - felt like a subversive in this present cultural climate. The feeling of freedom lasted a couple of days. This Wuss-World age is bereft of the ability to laugh at itself - so sad.
