Hey I love what guys like Jones do for the sport...brings in the big money. I agree anyone can get dropped, some will even be the victim of career crumbling brutal KOs twice in a row like Jones did. That's been happening since boxing began. And when you're a big name showboater you can win certain fights you normally wouldn't because of your name (or contract) But I tip my hat to Jones, he didn't dodge where many would have. On the other hand, maybe he should have dodged a couple.

it was lou del valle who knocked roy down for the first time. roy jones always avoided good fighters with a punch because he can't take a punch. he killed the sport, defending titles twice a year against bums, running from all the big names with all kinds of excuses. to me he was nerve wrecking.

hopkins was young. hopkins only turned into a great middleweight after 30yo. not saying this only because his record proves it. the difference between 1993 hopkins and 1997 hopkins is clear. he improved a lot.
toney dropped from 214 pounds to fight jones because he couldn't resist the money. toney was having weight problems and far from fit. toney who beat barkley and nunn (who fought toney better than roy) would chew roy up. mccallum was 40yo and he was tired and doing it for the money.

as far as Floyd goes-- i think most fighters (whether they love to fight or not) are in it for the $. I have no doubt he would've eventually fought Cotto,but at the time Cotto's name wasn't big enough. based on recent events we'll have to see if his name every will be big enough. btw, Cotto himself had planned to retire around 30 as well. Floyd gets a lot of hate, but it's not really deserved. People think he should fight everyone they want to match him with, regardless of if it makes biz sense.

hindsight is 20/20.lot of people make that Hatton argument now. however, when the fight was made & all through the build up, all you heard/read was hatton's gon' kill him, etc. no fighter, regardless of who they are, has fought all the fights that we (as fight fans) have wanted them to fight. I love RJ, but a couple of yrs ago people were accusing him of ducking people. every great fighter goes thru it. i won't call it hate, i'll call it disappointment. fans don't get always get what they want.

No fight fan bought into the hype about Hatton beating Mayweather. Mayweather was always the favourite and expected to win. Theres a big difference between thinking someone will win and hoping they will.
Most fighters get accused of ducking. Thats true but RJJ will be remembered as someone who took risks (moving from middle to heavy - thats the stuff of greatness)
Moneys last fights were not even close to the best competitors around. Hes a welta & didnt even faced any of the top 5!

How many of us can honestly say we would go to work, and seek out the most difficult and dangerous task we could find, knowing we wouldn't be compensated as well as we should be. don't be fooled by fighters saying they want to be the best ever, while that may be part of their motivation, at the end of the day money is large factor. some people do love to fight, but if most could make that kind of money doing something else-- please believe, they would be doing it.

Also, just b/c MOST of us knew ricky didnt have a snowball's chance, don't allow yourself to believe that plenty of people didnt think he was gonna maul Floyd. Furthermore, as much as people wanna tout Cotto, he is a flawed fighter. PB beat DLH, Baldimore and Hatton resoundingly but i think Cotto would have destroyed those 3 too! um mayweather never had better defense...mayweather took some leather in alot of his fights...in his prime...jones however took less punches through out his whole career...it was only until he diminished physically and lost some of that ring movement. mayweather was hurt in 2 fights as a prime fighter..jones barely took punches at all...and suffered one flash knockdown against a sparring partner..james toney couldnt land...and hopkins smuthered his punches againstjones...
