  • what a beautiful singer... we don`t see this type of beauty nowadays...

  • See this link, this girl sings a lot:

  • beautiful we had the best in our time the best

  • Jane Powell has one of the MOST beautiful voices- she has it all- Beauty, & I agree- BEAUTIFUL Smilin' eyes, she could dance, act. She was/is the BOMB!! Thank u Miss Powell for looking & sounding like an angel! God Bless u !!~~<3

  • Love her dress... This had some great moments but I don't think this song suits her or maybe Italian doesn't do her justice. Because I love love love her filles de Cadiz which is French just don't love this. Still a good job just not her best.

  • The most beautiful eyes.......

  • From the 1950 musical movie NANCY Goes to Rio. Jane Powell is a magnificent singer with such a powerful voice. A treasure.

  • Truly one of the genuinely greatest (recorded) soprano voices of the 20th Century - Jane Powell

  • WOW AWESOME!!!!!!! her voice is as beautiful as her. Excellent breath control

  • To those who badmouthed Jane for this: Have you ever even seen the movie it comes from? Do you know the role she was playing? If not, shut up! Jane did a beautiful job on this piece, much better than most would do on it!! Her role was that of a teenager who was a talented actress and singer. The character was headstrong and very confident of herself and her abilities.

Another thing to note: This is not the best copy of this portion of the movie. Find a better one, watch it, then comment...

  • @sphinxE78 -- I saw the movie -- and I dissed Jane's performance of this aria -- live with it

  • Jane is still a beautiful woman today. She is in her late seventies, I think.

  • not the best version i've heard of Quando men vo

  • She's got a very charming voice!! Thanks for uploading this gem.

  • Jane Powell (just like Kathryn Grayson) can never be taken seriously as an opera singer. She had a weak "microphone" film voice with rudimentary vocal training. Particularly in this aria she sounds flat, her voice much like a noise! There were some real singers in Hollywood - Grace Moore, Deanna Durbin, Mario Lanza!!! Deanna lives in France in reclusion. Take a look at her clips and you´ll know what I mean!

  • Now Mario Lanza is painful to listen to. He never found the note he was aiming for!

  • I forgot to cite Jannete Mc Donald and Nelson Eddy, two real singers. You must be deaf! Lanza at his peak had no voice limits. His low baritonal register was rich and top notes reached high D easily. Have you heard his recordings of "Di Rigore Armato" or "A Te O Cara"? Lack of discipline, alcohol and paranoid destroyed his voice and life!

  • This is one of my favorite moments from Moonstruck. Now it will be my favorite moment from this movie also. It is a wonderful version....very beautiful and moving, but young and fresh as well. Thanks so much for posting it!

  • Though it is certainly not in the "Puccini" style of musicality, it isn't meant to be in this setting. Personally I adore Jane Powell (and always have after seeing "7 Brides for 7 Brothers").

  • only complete snobs would say this is terrible... jealous ones that couldn't do better themselves. i say 'bravo'.

  • AND THANK GOD FOR HOLLYWOOD ....an you can tell who the SNUBS are out there.....MANY young people out there would never have heard this KIND of music...PUCCINI would have been happy ... that the people from all walks of life could share his deep feelings.....in a world that is so shallow....yes ....HOLLYWOOD thanks for those saterdays in a darkened theater..an beautiful music..an people......john locke lyric pines

  • Well said! I started watching old movies and that is how I learned to watch Opera. I was first inspired by singers like Jane Powell. That inspired an interest to learn about classical music. Had it not been for old Hollywood I would be listening to rap right now.

  • I like it! Sure it's not opera but they didn't want to make an opera. Jane has a beautiful voice and I like the smooth, soft music like this. For me opera was always to harsh. I can listen to it this way. Thanks for uploading the clip!

  • This is terrible. Nice girl, but that's how it is. Hollywood version of Puccini.

  • .............tears in my eyes....17 an alone in san francisco....crossing the street an looking up at the st francis an boom right into my idol........ such pure beauty....john locke

  • Nancy in Rio ? (actually the MGM backlot).Ann Sothern the doting Mom near the start of the clip(she loved her food esp. chockies).

Jane wasnt into opera, but acquits herself well here. The Girl Next Door and How She grew(1988).Dug it out from my local library.Recommend it for its amazing honesty.

    Really enthralling.Thanks Jane.

  • Powell sang without forcing the voice as all the bellowing sopranos on the professional operatic stage do today. This is the way a young girl's voice should sound. Listen to Elizabeth Rethberg for the greatest operatic soprano

  • @796824 Not just "today" LOL!!

As I'm aware, most stage operatic sopranos have always bellowed.

This is what I call a true soprano voice of great quality ... but I'll try Elizabeth, just out of curiosity ;)

  • It is forced but jane's not an opera singer so i dont expect her to do it flawlessly..i mean to be serious the orchestra sucks too...but i think for actors and movies musicians it is well performed.

  • Sorry, but I found this rendition a little unconvincing.

  • @Applejack70 -- i gave your review a thumbs up - i dislike those who voted against you just cuz you didn't agree with their OPINION on Jane's singing - her Italian bothered me in this version - however I would like to hear the opinion of a native Italian speaker - i thought her vocal performance was sweet and charming even tho not "operatic" - but then the full voice isn't as pleasant over a movie sound system - in my opinion

  • Well said!!!

  • Wow, it sounds like they cast Snow White as Musetta. Wonderful!!

  • I love this Jane's verzion of this best

  • Just how do voices like Jane Powell's, singing a beautiful La Boheme aria, and that of Carmen Miranda, of "Tico tico no fuba" fame, get to mingle in a movie?!! This is a blast in itself!! I have got to see this movie!!

  • any way to put this on my zune ?

  • downloading?

  • I love Jane!!!So talented.......What a voice!!!Anyone know if they have a DVD of all her movies?

  • I love seeing singers like Jane sing these opera songs so flawless, without forcing their voices, like if they can overcome anything. She sang it with no trouble, Bravo

  • With singing like that, I want to see all Jane's movies! She had the most beautiful eyes in Show Biz!!

  • Opera schmopera. She has an exquisite, full voice worthy of popular appeal.

  • I agree. Deanna Durbin's rendition is better because her voice is more suited to the opera's of Puccini.

  • Jane Powell is always charming in her films..especially THREE DARING DAUGHTERS (MGM 1948)..but I think Deanna Durbin's version is better. Jane sounds a bit shrill whilst Deanna's voice was more suited to Puccini's music. Would also recommend the H. Guden version on YOU TUBE.

  • she has such a beautiful voice

  • Fascinating girl - It is a pity she did not insist more on opera and perfect her coloratura. I'd love to her her in Bernstein's Glitter and be Gay, for example

  • Nice but not the greatest singer of all time.

    Very pleasant and small voice.

  • Jane Powell, goddess, angel, no-one else even comes close. The greatest singer of all time.

  • I love Janie, thanks so much for posting

  • essa mulher canta muiiiiiiiiiito!
