  • On this date in 1959 {Jan. 26th} "Tragedy" entered Billboard's Top 100 chart, eventually it would peaked at No. 5 and spent a total of 19 weeks in the Top 100!!! R.I.P. Tom

  • My late brother's favorite song...i remember him playing it over and over half the night , so much i hated the song then...now i treasure it...R.I.P. Stevie

  • Paul McCartney has a really beautiful version of this amazing song. That's how I first heard it, and I've been listening to it over and over again all day.

  • This is NOT the original.

  • As a teenager in the 50s, I can still remember the first time I heard this song coming in to my little AM radio in Maine from WTRY in Troy, NY. it was beautiful and remains a favorite of mine 50 plus years later

  • What a great year for tragedy songs...1959....thanks tom...R.I.P.

  • Sad memories of y first wife who passed away im May 1984. The hurt never leaves. I love you baby.

  • I can still remember the girl I danced with when this came out. A backyard party with the 45 record player on a chair. I sure would have loved another dance. Thanks for posting this, one of my all time favorites.

  • I also had a idea of writing a Song with this Title! I even had one line written that is in this song! And behold this songs comes out with Thomas Wayne before I finished mine! Synchronicity strikes again! Needless to say I did not finish my song!

  • Beautiful!!!

  • My favorite song from '59 and at about the same time as my 2nd favorite "Who's That Knocking" ~ Genies. I believe that Thomas & The Delons released two versions of "Tragedy", one with just the guitar instrumentation and the other including strings (violins). I love both versions!

  • I love this song !!! 5/5 Very nice collection indeed. Thank you for the upload.

  • this the orginial

  • a timeless classic r.i.p, tom

  • A classic...thanks for posting.

  • Wow. Bandstand. I don't remember it from Bandstand, but it was my favorite song for a long time. I remember when it came out.

  • I actually remember this song being played by Dick Clark on Bandstand.

  • Now this is the version I am talking about..no other copy does anything for me. i was 3yrs old..this is the song i remember from my crib..this one sticks out.

  • This is the version I remember from '59, a great "slow dance" tune from back in the day.

  • Without a doubt the most beautiful song from 1959, a year with many great songs. This is not the original recording, but it sounds like it may have been recorded by the original artists, perhaps later. Thanks for the memories that came flooding back upon hearing this.

  • Great song. Thomas went to the same

High School as Elvis, Humes HS.

Died in a car crash at 29.

  • Great song--thanks for posting--so many memories it brings back!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Just hearing this song brought back memories of cruising in my '57 convertible... going to Icky Dicky's to get ice cream.. My Mom still with us.. she would humm this while she cleaned the house.. Such good memories... Thank you for bringing those back! Its sad that the songs they have today just doesn't have the same impact.

  • Thanks for posting this song that deserves to be remembered. What a good job Thomas Wayne did on this!

  • Beautiful...so much so that it hurts a little

  • Thank you for replying.

  • a timeless classic !!!

  • Thanks for the reply.

  • My all-time favorite song and arrangement. Yes, the Fleetwoods' arrangement was great...as was Bryan Hyland's. Unfortunately, the days of artists and bands dressing nicely...audiences dressing nicely...holding each other when we danced...songs ending in about three minutes...are in the rear view mirror, most likely never to return...but we can hope!

  • Many thanks for your reply - those days are truly long-gone, sadly. Hope & memories is all we have now.

  • Yes but with my love still here with today, I can cope.

  • Beautiful song, the Fleetwoods' version is just as good--though not the original!

  • Thanks for commenting.

  • i have never heared this singer.

  • @whirlbirdy Thomas Wayne was actually Thomas Wayne Perkins, born 1940 in Mississippi. Aside from having a million-seller with "Tragedy", his claim to fame was that he was the baby brother (12 years junior) of legendary guitarist Luther Perkins, who backed Johnny Cash from his beginning in 1955 until Perkins' death in a house fire in 1968. Thomas Wayne Perkins died three years later in an auto accident.

  • This came out right after me and my girlfriend broke up.

  • Ain't that just the way sometimes - I know the feeling. Thanks for replying.

  • @xibbumbero this song is especially one of my very favs because at the time this song came out, late1958, early 1959, my fav girl left me.... my mother. she died at this time at age 46 .... i was only 15. it truely was a tragedy for me. it makes me cry every time i hear it.

  • I was just a boy when this song came out .I first heard it on Bandstand. It still is a great love song . It brings back so many memories of the early days of rock ' n ' roll.

  • Thanks for taking the time to reply.

  • Fantastic track, been searching for years for a "Best of Thomas Wayne" cd , can anybody give any details is there is a cd available?

  • I will have a search around for you.

  • its a great tragedy that this great singer had to die so young at 31. in a car accident in 1971. his voice was awesome!

  • a crying shame - thanks for your reply.
