I can't compare firefly to Star Wars, because the former is series, the latter are movies. But firefly has so much potential, so unique, simple, but astonishing music (ballad of serenity), steotyp, BUT so lively and loveable characters (Jayne's moon on 7th episode :) ) that this show is a really, really serious hit among the series.I'd not compare to SW, but Firefly is definitely one of the (if not THE) best series I'have ever seen.
@adam1224 yes it was so unique nothing like it with the driven story but at the same time comedy and Jaynes moon 100% agree "the hero of canton the man they call Jayne" loved that because it was serious but the whole thing just felt great at the same time, and you are right so much more story to it. I mean it was done cleverly too because they didn't force a backstory like for example halo does with the flood and forrunners it was there not forced and could easily be explored
@y05077 Joss Whedon didn't cancel Firefly. Fox did. Joss wanted it to go on for seven seasons. Joss didn't screw anyone over; without him, Firefly wouldn't have happened, we wouldn't have got Serenity to tie-up lose ends and we wouldn't have got all the comics that continue the stories.

All news channels are horrible, I agree. But at least others show some level of respect towards people. The "reporters" at Fox will straight-out insult people and treat their guests like shit. All news stations lie and sensationalize at times, but at least some of the others aren't being complete assholes while they do so.

I really love how it stops on an imperfect cadence, like it's halfway through the song. Like even through the music it's kinda like - "yeah this ain't the end, this wasn't how it was supposed to end for the Browncoats and their story" and it really highlights how it got cut off so soon. But it also gives the feel that it still hasn't ended ... and too damn true ... you can't stop the signal!!!
The idiot (well, the dude who wasn't a sci-fi guy or a visionary) who cancelled this show must've been fired for that decision. I mean, the series got cancelled early on, but a movie still got made and the show has a fantastic following.

This song is beautiful, but it also breaks my heart a little. Coming at the end of Serenity's credits like it does, and thus at the very end of the Firefly storyline and our time with these characters...it feels like a goodbye.
...So I was just watching the episode bushwhacked and it occurred to me, when Mal describes the "darkness blacker than the space it moves through", he's describing something he knows intimately. "The only way to deal with it I suspect is to become it. He's following the only course left to him." I'd imagine the alliance made him see and do things in the war that made him damn near close to a reaver, but his will was stronger. Hence, when he gets the drop Neska, "You want to see the real me?"
When I first saw this movie, I was in love all the way through, but it was at the end of the credits when this started playing that really did it for me. I think that the story of Firefly is about finding home. However, home isn't rarely a place, but a state of mind. This simple piece of music is a perfect representation of that: Joss took us through hell and back, but to those of us who stuck with him all the way through, this takes us back to the familiarity of what we call "home."
My hatred of Fox for their cancellation of this wonderful show almost approaches my hatred of Fox for the lack of journalistic integrity in their "news" programming.

Except the 20 minute goodbye ending made sense, given that DS9 was at its core an intensely character driven show whereas TNG relied, as always, on a bunch of technobabble to provide a closer.
Voyager's ending was complete shit, what with the reset button and, y'know, ending the show right as they return to Earth, leaving us hanging about what the frak happened to all the characters once they got home.
DS9 was not without some great episodes, the trouble with Tribbles, the appearance of the Defiant & the magnificent Ferengi were brilliant but killing Gul Dukat halfway through the last one & then having everyone smiling & listening to the holodeck was self-congratulatory, dull & a major disappointment after so much promise much like the end of BSG. Whereas the ending in TNG was a good story as well as a great ending to what had been at times a patchy series
@SerenityScore I dunno, I liked the fact that we don't know what happened to all the characters in Voyager. I think a show should always end leaving some questions unanswered so that it sticks in your mind after it's finished. Whedon did the same thing with the Buffy characters in season 7. But then again I do love voyager so my judgement is likely impaired =p

This song is beautiful, but it also breaks my heart a little. Coming at the end of Serenity's credits like it does, and thus at the very end of the Firefly storyline and our time with these characters...it feels like a goodbye.

...So I was just watching the episode bushwhacked and it occurred to me, when Mal describes the "darkness blacker than the space it moves through", he's describing something he knows intimately. "The only way to deal with it I suspect is to become it. He's following the only course left to him." I'd imagine the alliance made him see and do things in the war that made him damn near close to a reaver, but his will was stronger. Hence, when he gets the drop Neska, "You want to see the real me?"

When I first saw this movie, I was in love all the way through, but it was at the end of the credits when this started playing that really did it for me. I think that the story of Firefly is about finding home. However, home isn't rarely a place, but a state of mind. This simple piece of music is a perfect representation of that: Joss took us through hell and back, but to those of us who stuck with him all the way through, this takes us back to the familiarity of what we call "home."

@SamHagagaga well I agree that fox shouldn't have cancelled the show, to be fair it didn't have many viewers at the time, but it was cancelled before it's time. Chuck is constantly under threat of being cancelled despite its fanatic followers, the viewer numbers just aren't there,
and can you honestly tell me that every other news station is squeaky clean? Sure Fox is biased, but so is everyone else, feel free to attack Fox, but at least keep the standard and attack the others too.

@7aro7Dragoon other news sources do the exact same thing, especially reuters who seems to be anti-israel, they've been caught altering photos several times. the NBC stations do the same, and they're always threatening to cancel Chuck, which they would have done already if it weren't for the fans.
Fox is actually an par with all the other news stations in terms of news.
CNN really has no standards, nor does NBC, or CBS, Every news station has a left wing bias, except fox which is right wing.

There's one piece that I really want to hear, maybe I'll just look for it in the series again, but it's the one where Serenity is in empty space the music plays right as she starts to accelerate. I think it was on the pilot episode, it's a really short acoustic guitar riff, but it's so sweet.

For starters it doesn't have a 20 minute montage of people saying goodbye to one another in the final episode.
Seriously after 7 seasons that was the best they could come up with?
Next Generation had a fantastic ending by comparison, even Voyager ended better and Voyager was rubbish.

Except the 20 minute goodbye ending made sense, given that DS9 was at its core an intensely character driven show whereas TNG relied, as always, on a bunch of technobabble to provide a closer.
Voyager's ending was complete shit, what with the reset button and, y'know, ending the show right as they return to Earth, leaving us hanging about what the frak happened to all the characters once they got home.

DS9 was not without some great episodes, the trouble with Tribbles, the appearance of the Defiant & the magnificent Ferengi were brilliant but killing Gul Dukat halfway through the last one & then having everyone smiling & listening to the holodeck was self-congratulatory, dull & a major disappointment after so much promise much like the end of BSG. Whereas the ending in TNG was a good story as well as a great ending to what had been at times a patchy series

@SerenityScore I dunno, I liked the fact that we don't know what happened to all the characters in Voyager. I think a show should always end leaving some questions unanswered so that it sticks in your mind after it's finished. Whedon did the same thing with the Buffy characters in season 7. But then again I do love voyager so my judgement is likely impaired =p
