Deimos was based off of King Leonidas the leader of the Three Hundred i would not be surprised if they did a back story in Kratos before he became the ghost of sparta that involved king Leonidas seeing as how he was a real person it could be like God of War Rise of a Warrior or Blood of Sparta i don't know but it would make a cool addition to the series

Deimos's red on his body is actually blood, but kratos got his tattoed on. btw in gow 3, if u play as deimos, u get like no red orbs. i beat whole game on deimos outfit and I wasn't able to upgrade anything. but deimos costume is really bad ass lol

In Ghost of Sparta, when you level up Kratos's Arms of Sparta(the spartan spear+shield), you gain techniques, one of them being called Valor of Leonidas. Leonidas's name is in the game, which could just mean he was a king of the past in Sparta.
