I go back and forth with Red West, I understand how hurt and bitter he might have been after Elvis's father fired him but don't understand why he taped Elvis and his private conversation on the phone, I know Red is a talented songwriter and was a good friend to Elvis but how do you explain the way that he did Elvis? Elvis would have taken him back and in fact he offered to help get him another job and 50,000.00 but he refused. I think he wishes now he had not done it but he can't take it back.

Most of Elvis' fans are very leary of Joe E. for a number of reasons, one of which is he almost sued Elvis once after Elvis lost money helping him invest in something and he also changed his story about Elvis' death. Charlie and JD were true friends.

I have read many of these friends biographies, I am reading Alan Fortas's right now, I read Sonny's second book, he seemed like he was covering his butt for the awful one he did with Red, he even claimed to be a born again Chrisitan, which of Joe's books is the bad one, I read Good Rockin Tonight, and he signed it, he was smug acting when I met him. Jerry Schilling did a good job with his, at least it did not get too personal. Its just hard to pick out who was his true friend.

I go back and forth with Red West, I understand how hurt and bitter he might have been after Elvis's father fired him but don't understand why he taped Elvis and his private conversation on the phone, I know Red is a talented songwriter and was a good friend to Elvis but how do you explain the way that he did Elvis? Elvis would have taken him back and in fact he offered to help get him another job and 50,000.00 but he refused. I think he wishes now he had not done it but he can't take it back.

bearshit1-no - I would not commit suicide. That is what Elvis did after-all. He was an expert on his drug interactions - knew all about them.
