I think this is ridiculous. The distances are so vast that even if the landslide is rapid, it won't do that much. It would take a monster amount of energy to create a wave that did very much over such a wide area.

@dkrustyklown Actually, there is a way to do it without drawing to much attention to yourself. Ammonium nitrate is used by farmers the world over. You could ship the ammonium nitrate and nitromethane fuel in small shipments to La Palma over many months. And it wouldn't take 1,000's of tons of explosives. The trapped water in the mountain would act as a catalyst by turning to steam. The pressure from the steam would do the job just fine.
