  • This is a joke, right?.

  • @crunchysid225 I hope it is, but I'm afraid it isn't.

  • I wish he would come to asia and eat some great vege food. Dont have an issue with meat eaters, just do my best to reduce from 3 times a day to maybe 3 times a month. I think it works.

  • I like Jonathan Meades, but this is juvenile and intellectually dishonest. It also relies on ad hominem attacks like the borderline racist impression of GBS. I am sure he would have the grace to be embarrassed by it now.

  • This video looks quite outdated now doesnt it? I think it's really quite rare to find people opposed to vegetarians these days. If anything given how healthy we are now (supposedly) we've all become 'infected' by vegetarianism in one way or another, if only for the first few weeks in January.

  • He's criticizing a specific sort of vegetarian, really, tarring them all with the same brush. Which is a bit unfair; they're not all self-righteous about it, and some even LIKE food and are clever enough to make delicious meals without meat in. They're not all dicks. But there are plenty of dicks, and they deserve everything Meades throw at them.

  • Meades being amazing, as usual. I just watched this while eating a whole roast chicken.

  • I am a happy vegetarian. My dog is vegan. My girlfriend is vegetarian. I have about 10 people of 20 in my housing that are vegetarians. :D I love it. It's very tasteful., which I were not able to imagine before. Just because some people are not skilfull cooks, is not quite a profound argument to insult people, without which we would've not enough to eat on this planet. cheers. 8000 pos. votes shows nothing more than your blindness.

  • hrmmm vegies lol... Well we became smarter eating cooked meat, so if they want to go back on evolution and munch on grass, let the dumbasses do it :D

  • As this video makes clear, there are just as many meat-eaters who are eager to justify their lifestyle as there are vegetarians. I just wish both sides of the debate would stop being such cunts about it.

  • You haven't met many vegans have you? You're talking out of intellectual emptiness. This is such a silly video. However, I'm glad you're talking about animals. We animal rights people have taken over the social agenda of the world. Call us nutheads, but our agenda has become your talking point. Vegans 1, this guy (whoever you are) 0.

  • Think, it takes a certain amount of energy to produce crops. Now, we could eat those crops and obtain that chemical energy now, or we could spend more energy producing feedlots and slaughterhouses and use that energy to produce yet another trophic level. Also, with the transfer of energy between trophic levels, about 80-95 % of the energy is lost in the transfer to animals. We obtain only about 1/10 of the energy we could have gained by eating plants by eating meat.

  • That Newman bloke is crazy. What about the fish in the Bible? They eat fish. Loads of fish. Millions of them. Fish fish fish fish fish, That's the Bible. So it ain't espousing vegetarianism at all. They didn't give a shit.

Ethical vegetarians are on shaky ground. If you look up what Monsanto have been up to in the third world, for instance. I can understand it if you're narcissistic and diet-obsessed, as anti-fat moral guardians tend to be. But then they're cunts aren't they?

  • Oh and he even uses long words to try to make out he is being intellectual - he ISNT!!!!

Intellectual people present balanced arguments and NEVER EVER berate other people simply for expressing an opinion which is different to theirs! What a tit. AND I am an EXCELLENT host. AND the comment about courtesy - WHAT that is like saying if your guests smoke you have to allow them to smoke in your house!!! NO you dont!

  • But, isn't there already an imbalance on the vegetarian side? Isn't all we ever hear about them mainly positive and biased?

I enjoyed this video because for once someone had the balls to say NO to vegetarianism, and also comment on their preachiness.

  • Hmm yes thank you Jonathan for presenting a unbiased and surgical dissection of vegetarianism. Your diet seems to be making you VERY healthy, what a catch you are.

    NOT.

  • That scrawny blonde Veggie chick isn't much of a catch either.

  • Lol is this guy stereotyping much. O_o

  • Sup tubby.

  • What a stupidly one-sided and patronising piece of self aggrandising rubbish. This neither encourages debate or provides a platform to advance the choice of the carnivorous.

  • He won't be so smug when he has his heart attack/stroke/bowel cancer! IDIOT! These rissoles or whatever that they are on about don't even exist. Nigella is a bit of a porker too...

  • A Fat Man complaining about vegetarians again....

  • lol, o my goodness, this dude is so funny :) I love all that spitting out of disgusting food haha, what a classic:)

  • GF Newman is a douche. He apparently doesn't know shit about religion but is trying to quote the "master." Guess what azzhole Christians don't refer to him as the "master" only you godless athiest fucks!

  • what a cunt

  • Well, I'm a vegetarian simply because I don't like meat. I don't think there's anything wrong with eating meat. If that's what you want, tuck in. Like Meades, I hate inhumane factory farming but I don't preach. You can't force people to share your moral reactions. I serve meat to guests and never curl my nose. I love my food. I'm fat and happy. Meades is right to condemn the ignoble history of vegetarianism as the province of cranks. Uri Geller can fuck off... but so can Nigella.

  • Hey that's fine, eat what you like! The moralism surrounding veganism is a crock of shit.

  • Says the guy with a whole fucking paragraph <3

  • So Meades accuses vegetarians of being joyless , self-rightious preachers.

And to argue the point vegetarians post comments filled with joyless, self-rightious preaching.

    ha, and indeed: ha.

  • I am a vegetarian but I don't preach at people.

We don't have a tradition of eating vegetables in a serious way because historically the poor in England ate virtually only vegetables.

I agree in terms of the main British idea of the diet though. But that's ignorance of cooking rather than anything else.

  • Remember: "what you eat you are."

Eat dead meat you become dead meat !

I still think Jonathan Meades is great from this long time vegetarian.

  • Remember: "what you eat you are."

    Hence vegetarians become vegetables.

Meat has done wonders for Jonathan Meades' head.

  • Who is 'we'.

  • no you are just annoying, you dont eat meat great, but everybody has to no about it and then you look across the table at my stake and go on some moral crusade

  • Having Uri Geller on, credited as "psychic" doesn't do much for his argument, does it?

  • His generalizations ruin the show. I am a vegetarian, I have NEVER berated anybody who eats meat, I do not proselytize etc,.

"If only they'd eat, rather than preach" : YES, I agree but let's be a little more precise, eh? SOME vegetarians are like that and they should be eaten. Meades, pay attention!

Mind you, of course you're only going to hear from the loud ones. "There's nothing more conformist than mass non-conformity" - how about conformity ITSELF, Johnathan? Puerile shite

  • I've recently become a vegetarian and basically apologise for it, mainly because a lot of meat eaters simply take offence to people 'being' vegetarians. My experience is the exact opposite of what this unusually angry man is saying.

Also, I can't help but notice the similarity between being a vegetarian and an athiest. Preachers on the opposing side take offence at the mere existance of generally quiet athiests/vegetarians and get vociferously defensive despite a lack of attack.

  • I think he is quite funny actually.

  • he doesn't like bs, its not hate. he rips into people he finds false. watch his other videos at the meadesshrine, i think thats the users name that has the rest of his videos. joe building and jerry building are especially good.

  • @omgwtfbbqstfu he is just an realist.

  • @Harrifer1987 Beaten up by vegans - yeah, right...

  • @Harrifer1987 Beaten up by vegans - yeah, right...

  • @Harrifer1987 "What the hell is wrong with this guy? He's got something wrong with him in the head"

Yes he has. It's called "intelligence". Thank your lucky stars you don't suffer from it too.

  • @Harrifer1987 This is him being even-handed. You should see him when he attacks the creative bankruptcy of architecture in Stalinist Russia and Nazi Germany. (See: "Jerry Building" and "Joe building" on a youtube search.)

  • @Harrifer1987

    beaten up by vegans.................HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Harrifer1987 I'm a vegetarian and I love Jonathan Meades. Even when I disagree with him. He makes intelligent, reasoned and very funny television programmes in a way that almost nobody else does these days and he's at his best when he's at his most provocative.

  • Interesting to see him wearing something other than his black suit and shades.

  • Yes mrrobot, though an amusing straw man! Having said that, at least he clarifies from the outset that it is those vegetarians who proselytize and preach that he finds disagreeable. As for being "born to be omnivores", surely the very existence of millions of vegetarians and vegans implies otherwise? The evolutionary drive to procreate, for example, is expressed in us as a sexual urge; however many people are celibate or don't want any children. An "as nature intended" argument is a bogus one.

  • Man, he's the Mean Machine

  • somewhat of a straw man isnt it
