  • They kept the spoilers on for a long time!

  • @cairns65 and how many years is a350 behind schedule? and qatar has threatened to cancel its order of a350-1000.

  • If it ain"t Boeing, I ain"t going....... Best planes, ever.....

  • LOVE IT MAN

  • What row were you seated in? I am nearing a flight from Newark to Frankfurt and I NEED that seat/ Landing lights, engines, and slats all in sight.

  • Why did the Captain leave the thrust reversers on for so long during the landing rollout? You usually stow them by 70 knots or so to preclude foreign object damage, yet he didn't have them fully stowed until the runway turnoff. Only thing I can think of is that he had the reverse levers at idle, but just past the reverse detent so that the doors remained open. Strange.

  • @hovertrain7

    Yup that's right.

  • @cairns65 Keep dreaming. The A380 will never make its 400-plane break-even. The 747-8 keeps the title with superior payload, performance and economy. It's already more fuel-efficient than the -400 thanks to the GEnx and Trent 1000 engines. And it's never been a fall-apart like the A380 is. And good luck with the A350, you'll need it. There's already 15 787s sitting here, ready to go into service early next year. 832 to go!

  • auto pilot....

  • @reetveter2 Not necessarily. The ceiling was high enough to allow for some hand-flying. I've seen VFR landings in overcast situations and night, but I've also seen ILS landings in clear conditions. You never know until you hear the COM channel.

  • nice touch down

  • Oh, i love those beautiful morning approaches. Great video!

  • Haha I thaught it was fsx for a sec nice video

  • damn that was and smooth landing

  • looks like seattle weather.

  • @Sho69607 Oh, shush, you! Being a Seattleite, I can tell you we have far less scud and rain than that lame "Frasier" show would depict. Who would you believe more: a Hollywood show that happens in a basement or someone who lives in the Puget Sound? Come visit someday, you'll be stunned.

  • @SenorSpode dude, I'm from Seattle it rains all the time.

  • @Sho69607 Compared to your hometown of Phoenix, Arizona? Well, Sparky, there's no contest there, but it's not as dramatic as you say.

  • Nice video, thanks..

  • One of the best landing vids i've ever seen. I love how you captured the pilots extending the leading edge slats and I loved the reverse thrust and the automatic retraction of the slats and then redeployment after reserve thrust had been canceled. You can even see the pilots turning off the main wing landing lights at 2:36. Excellent! 5*

  • @Neno8403 yeah its a really nice landing. arent they supposed to taxi with flaps at 5 degrees? (which also results in the slats extending) Or 10, but im pretty sure its 5. And landing lights are turned off when they turn from the runway onto the taxi ways.

maybe slats are controlled seperately. I have to look that up.

  • @TheCentrix Typical takeoff flap settings is 20° degrees. I'm not sure if full takeoff flaps are selected during taxi or not.

  • @Neno8403 yeah I know takeoff flaps, but I though taxi flaps are 5 degrees.

  • nice to see if the flaps come out

  • that landing rox!!

  • one of the fest videos i ve ever seen

    exelent!

  • just a quick question, why did the slats/slits go up and then down when taxiing to gate. sorry to be a noob.

  • during reverse thrust they raise because of the engine location and to change the airflow through the engines

  • ah ok thanks very much, does the pilot manually control this?

  • Let the French gloat over their A380 all they want. The 747 will forever reign as The Queen of the Skies! Excellent video.

  • King! Not queen hehe...

  • Oh, I imagine that the A380 freaks are gonna beg to disagree on that, XRaCeProX, but bear in mind: even the King bows to the Queen! Knowhutimean? ;-)

  • @SenorSpode A380 is not Frech, it is just assembled in France. But I agree with you on 747!

  • Point very well made. We still do almost all our planes in-house, albeit all wing spars are made in Renton at the 737 factory and trucked 40 miles north to the Everett facility. The 787 is made mostly in Japan, some parts in Italy, the rest all over the US. I don't see the logic of shipping major assemblies around, too risky. Unfortunately, they do it now.

  • @SenorSpode

    A380 is french?

Airbus is German, French, Italian, British, Spanish, ... Airbus is part of the EADS group, spread throughout Europe.

Planes are very globalized. Do you know how much Siemens is in the B747? And how much GE (General Electric) in the A380? :)

  • @pascalgienger Assembled in Toulouse (then they oughtta tighten things up in the planes). Semen in the 747? EEEWWWW!

  • wonderful just brilliant... this is probably the most depressing part of the flight cuz ur all excited when the plane is landing and seeing all the hydraulics and as it touches down ur wetting ur self cuz ur soo amazed at the reverse thrusters then.... all the excitement just goes away and ur rolling at 10 mph.. just what someone needed after coming back from a business deal that went bad and the smell of scotch on his breath on a rainy day like this :D

  • smooth landing for a 747, that thing just wanted to float, didn't feel like ending the flight yet.

  • God whoah, very smooth landing didn;t shock inside or make noise at all, congratulations to the pilot..

And of course great quality, great vid

  • nice!!! :)

  • at 1:33 you can see the wing flexing. very nice vid! 5/5!

  • the best plane ever!!!! although the a380 is bigger, the 747 stays the queen forever!!!

  • God i love Europe weather, so nice cloudy and cosy inside with warm tea

  • nice view!

  • Very nice video!

  • dank goodyear eine weiche landung !

  • ROFL! :D Der war geil!

  • very nice

  • I hate when the plane is descending.....how about you all?

  • I don't like it, means the flight is almost over :-(

  • Me too. As almost everyone is wondering if everything is going to be ok. But take off is pure joy.

  • did they retract the flaps after spoilers came out ? strange :O

  • Actually, Those are slats, and they allow the airplane to fly slower because they significantly reduce the angle of attack (the angle at which relative wind is flowing in reference to the chord line of the wing. Without them deployed, a lot less wind is making it's way over the upper surface of the wing, resulting in less lift generation.

Applying reverse thrust causes them to automatically retract allowing for better braking & stopping effect.

    It's really cool!

  • wow wat a great explanation! thanks mate! i flew from frankfurt to miami not long ago with this boeing 747-400! great airplane although flight entartainment wasnt on the highest level :(

  • that's cool, I want to go on one eventually :)

  • smooth touchdown!

  • Are these planes hard to fly?

  • Landing can be tricky for a 747 as they are very fast and stall if you go too slow, in the air is pretty simple with a really straight forward autopilot.

  • Oh ok thanks.

  • Nice wingflex

  • Listen to those ge-cf6 engines growl and whistle...very nice

  • me encanta el aeropuerto de frankfurt, buen video

  • lucky u rode 747-400 in few time. i WANT to ride 747-400 so badly but someday i will..hope so! lol

  • I wanna FLY them someday!

  • same! xD its my third favortie kind of airliner. number 1 favorite is 737

    2- a380

    3- 747-400 :-P

  • what a pro landing that was! epspecially with that kind of weather, especially i love the way wings shifting while descending, its amazing

  • I love this video and dark day! The engines are GE. so I think.

  • Yep.

  • sweet landing i like it when the wings were bouncing

  • this was excellent landin. luftansa is my third facorite airline. the boeing 747 is my favorite aircraft

  • 747 2nd for me:)

  • WTF, Someone hacked my account, I didnt write that comment!!!

  • the leading edge slats retract in conjunction with the deploying spoilers upon landing to help break the lift and allows the brakes to work more effectively.

  • why does the pilot retract the leading edge flap upon touchdown???

  • you're right.

the approach was pretty good but I think the touch down was too soft..

  • Nice touch down. Excellent approach, must have had a good pilot

  • Read the title, he landed 07R which means that he dídn't fly over the highway. You fly over the highway if you land on 25L/R.

  • I liek the engine moving back reverse thrust

  • It's cool

  • nice landing. lol look how much the wings move cause of bumps down the runway...

  • How many times did I hear "Frankfurt is not open until 0600Z--You go to Rhudesheim and hold"!??

  • Man i love the scenery in this video! the background with the clouds and the sky is amazing. i love when im up in the sky and see that on landing.

  • More Krueger flaps. I love these videos! Thanks.

  • LOL NO! those "flaps" are spoilers, used to spoil the lift so that on touchdown the plane doesnt go back up

  • Yes nitro thats exactly what they are for

  • Schön ruhig gehalten. Geil!

  • What is this Mean?

  • hmm, was that the flaps receeding as soon as it touched down? Notice the flaps on the front of the wing seem to recoil upwards as soon as it touches down. (im not speaking about the speed brakes or the reverse thrust) Can someone please tell me if that is meant to happen?

  • at the final landing procedure these flaps are released upward to create a fast wind on the wing

  • I think he´s talking about the leading edge flaps. These are highlift devices that extend togehter with the trailing edge flaps at the rear side of the wing. I read that the slats retract on landing when reverse thrust is engaged to protect them from being damaged by dirt or stones that could be thrown up by the reverse thrust.

  • great video you make the best

  • Flug LH 739 ? ^^

  • Um...you must be Greman. Now how did I think of that?

  • Nice video Mate.....

  • Can i know how many hours is HKG-FRA???

  • Nice landing. Thats why i love flying

  • nice had experience travelling with them we landed on the oppsoite side that was runway 25R quite nice since the pilot made a smooth landing

  • get any sleep with that light in your face?

  • its a landing light which means they turn it on only during takeoff and landing

  • i love pilots. amazing people.

  • perfect landing! lufthansa pilots are awesome!

  • Nice work, and thanks for holding the camera still. How did you do it??? Did the flight attendants tell you to put the camera away????

  • LH Am Besten, that comment about retacting the wing slats very interesting !! But the slats must be combined with the fowler flaps, i cannot fathom that the main flaps are retracted at this cirital stage in the flare, ok I know the camber is auto retracted at I think 5% flaps on 747. How does this work?

  • You don't realize how heavy and large this thing is until you see it land. Amazing how the engines and wing jostled on touchdown. The pressure those things must be under and yet it flies. Outstanding video.

  • felicitaciones a Hacki22. todos muy buenos videos

  • Awsome video! Just love it!

  • I love watching the engines and wing effects due to turbulences and pressure. :D

  • NICE !!

  • ooooo mein gott man junge wo lebst du jetzt in Frankfurt oder in hong kong how live you frankfurt and Hong kong ??? I live in new york and germany, berlin KREUZBERG 36 yeaaaa

  • That 747-400 landing was a BEAUT! Great view.

  • the slaps go back into glight-podition, because the reversers make many dirt and little flying stones which can be hit the slaps.

  • That is to avoid FOD (Foreign Object Damage). That means that they retract so nothing that might be pulled by the engines on reverse enters the wing.

  • Only the slats are retracted, the main flaps remain in their position.

  • In the B744, on flap 1 extension the inboard krueger leading edge flaps, and midsapn variable camber leading edge slats are deployed. At flaps 5 the outboards extend along with the trailing edge flaps move rearward. Then there are flaps 10, 20, 25 and 30 as the a/c slows and the triple slotted flaps increase the surface area and camber of the wing.

  • On main gear touchdown the spoilers deploy and we select idle reverse, the engine nacelles open and the inboard and midspan L.E's retract, the interlocks on the thrust levers release allowing us to introduce reverse thrust, the main reason is that the reverse thrust can produce unnecessary stress/strain by the jet flow. They re-deploy when reverse thrust is cancelled and retract again on normal flap retraction as part of the after landing checks.
