Looking at this from a fair perspective, Federer played poorer than usual with lots of unforced errors, and Nadal played consistent and solid throughout the match. Wish Fed could have played up to his level like in 2006-2007...then that would be a totally different story.

This is the worst I've seen Federer play against Nadal. I think even RG2008 was a better performance from Fed, as Nadal just played too well in that final. Here, Nadal played solid, but nothing spectacular, and he didn't need to...because Federer self-destructed and looked slow and lazy from the start.
While I am about as huge of a Federer fan as it gets, I have to admit that even though it was a terrible day for him, Nadal's game just accentuates his obvious decline. I'm not saying he isn't capable of some amazing displays of skill that only he can showcase, but lets face it, he always makes significantly more unforced errors against Nadal because of the extremely heavy, high-bouncing topspin balls that Nadal hits (particularly to the backhand).

Many people refute claims that his game is diminishing, and i respect your point of view, but when I talk about it I mean its a very gradual thing. Its not like suddenly in March 2011 he no longer 'has it', but rather that these 'off days' are the result of it, and they may come more often.
I think his tactics are a bit off sometimes, and one cannot doubt the speed/fitness of Nadal & Djoko over RF. Federer is one of the fittest on tour no doubt, but his Defence is not what it was.
Federer is playing ok but not well enough to beat Rafa or Djokovic. His form has definitely been dropping over the past year or two but sometimes shows us the old Federer from time to time. I don't know why his game is faltering, maybe things outside tennis like his family are factors. After winning so much and is now, by many, considered the greatest of all time, maybe he's no longer hungry and is simply content with what he's achieved. He still needs to put Rafa in his place in my view.
I don't think there is anything wrong with Federer's game although he played horrendously...He has the game but I think he does not have the desire anymore...He has nothing left to prove...I think he should give his all this year at wimbledon and us open and retire as a champion.Wimbledon would be a perfect ending.....

if nadal would have used federer's raquet..he would rarely hit the ball from te sweetspot. his own raquet head is huge and yet he was mistiming the ball against djokovic!
Whilst it may be true that Fed has simply lost the desire (or whatever), I think this would be impossible for anyone to know except him since its only under live match conditions against the toughest opposition that even Federer would feel this. Hence why he still sweeps past most of the field.
From any other point of view, it has be said that his game is deteriorating.
In any case, Fed has only gained points since the AO, so that is good news for us Fed fans!
I'm not buying this "Fed's a half step slower, slower serve, etc etc.". What I believe to be true is that Federer doesn't have the FIRE inside to win anymore. He's still out there playing, competing, but he doesn't really truly want it like he once did.
As Federer ages his game seems to be slowly morphing from masterful all-rounder to jack-of-all-trades (master of none). His serve has dropped 5-10mph, his backhand is often weak, his forehand is too hot-and-cold for long rallies, and his overall pace has slowed by half a step. Nadal made him look almost average in this match without having to come too far out of his comfort zone. I can usually spot Rafa's winners as the points develop, but I'm often unsure of where Roger is taking it.

This is the worst I've seen Federer play against Nadal. I think even RG2008 was a better performance from Fed, as Nadal just played too well in that final. Here, Nadal played solid, but nothing spectacular, and he didn't need to...because Federer self-destructed and looked slow and lazy from the start.

While I am about as huge of a Federer fan as it gets, I have to admit that even though it was a terrible day for him, Nadal's game just accentuates his obvious decline. I'm not saying he isn't capable of some amazing displays of skill that only he can showcase, but lets face it, he always makes significantly more unforced errors against Nadal because of the extremely heavy, high-bouncing topspin balls that Nadal hits (particularly to the backhand).

Many people refute claims that his game is diminishing, and i respect your point of view, but when I talk about it I mean its a very gradual thing. Its not like suddenly in March 2011 he no longer 'has it', but rather that these 'off days' are the result of it, and they may come more often.
I think his tactics are a bit off sometimes, and one cannot doubt the speed/fitness of Nadal & Djoko over RF. Federer is one of the fittest on tour no doubt, but his Defence is not what it was.

Federer is playing ok but not well enough to beat Rafa or Djokovic. His form has definitely been dropping over the past year or two but sometimes shows us the old Federer from time to time. I don't know why his game is faltering, maybe things outside tennis like his family are factors. After winning so much and is now, by many, considered the greatest of all time, maybe he's no longer hungry and is simply content with what he's achieved. He still needs to put Rafa in his place in my view.

FEd beat novak 4 out of 5 matches last year and 3 straight times. in marid on clay he game nadal 2 hard matches winning the first and losing the second in 2 tie breaks. Whilst it may be true that Fed has simply lost the desire (or whatever), I think this would be impossible for anyone to know except him since its only under live match conditions against the toughest opposition that even Federer would feel this. Hence why he still sweeps past most of the field.
From any other point of view, it has be said that his game is deteriorating.
In any case, Fed has only gained points since the AO, so that is good news for us Fed fans!

As Federer ages his game seems to be slowly morphing from masterful all-rounder to jack-of-all-trades (master of none). His serve has dropped 5-10mph, his backhand is often weak, his forehand is too hot-and-cold for long rallies, and his overall pace has slowed by half a step. Nadal made him look almost average in this match without having to come too far out of his comfort zone. I can usually spot Rafa's winners as the points develop, but I'm often unsure of where Roger is taking it.

he doesn't serve at 135 like a few years ago but fed grew up with back problems which is why he didn't serve in the army. remember his back was a problem a few years ago.
the courts bounce higher and even novak has problems with high backhands. the lower bouncing and faster courts of the second part of the year fed plays better on.

Roger's domination as the best player in tour has finished for sure.
He is now almost 30 yo and has ran out of real motivation.
His level of play is well below Rafa and Novak and even his number 3 ranking seems to be insecure considering that at least 2-3 players are heading to top 5.
