Same problem, Mic not working for video recording. Put a toothpic in it, gave it a quick blow, now working perfectly!! Thanks guys!

@Larsson786 is correct. Mine had the same problem as described in this video, i put a toothpick in the mic on the top of my IPhone 4 and problem solved! Thanks man!

Thank you guys for this forum information, I had the same problem! Mic not working when recording video. Only works when calling, etc..

I did this to fix the problem. Take a little needle and put it in the small microphone hole at the top of the phone. Try to get some dust out of it. After that try recoring again. And yes problem fixed!

My audio recording is mute.

My phonecalls are mute, except when speaker or earphone modes on...

i have more less same problem but i guess the mic for the video and the calls in speaker mode are in the top mic. And the voice notes and the normal calls (in private) are with the bottom mic,

So my problem its the opposoitive from you but the same mic problem, do you fix it ?? or some one know what happens ??

Yo yo bro wats all the bullshit. I had the exact same problem. I have resolved this issue. What happens is dust particles gather on the speaker on top of the phone. jus get a pin and clear the path.

You have to clean out the top Mic. Use a needle. When you are in speaker phone the top mic is used. That fixed it for me.

I got it with my touch pro2 noise canceling problem too. Now I buy iphone4 I face old problem. Noise canceling is use more than one mic to collect environment sound and sound from main mic and try to cancelled but it maybe malfunction or not good design hardware or software here.

I think the problem is actually with the sound cancellation button right above the volume buttons on the upper left corner of the phone. I have been very frustrated with this mic issue since the people I call can't hear me when I call them on the phone. First I was convinced it was something to do with the Jailbrake or the Unlock with Ultrasn0w so I tried restoring and re JB and Re Unlock with no luck. By pure chance I discover by presing down the said button I get the mic to work. Good luck.

thankyou for posting this. I have the same problem. it's a major hassle. I've never had a problem with the antenna, in fact my reception is a thousand times better than it ever was on my old 3G.

I live in Perth, Australia... I called Apple support. They got me to hard reset and then try a backup/restore. I had no success so I'll call them again today and ask for a replacement.

Guys it gets better on using the phone i also has this problem but one day i used the phone in a heavy sunlight phone got little hot on sunlight after that my mic works perfect maybe am lucky you guts can try it if u want to take the phone to sunlight for 5 or 10 min u are good to go.

but the major problem is i bought this from hong kong apple store via when i was in hong kong...and it is a officail unlocked one..

but if i get the replacement in US..they are gonna give me the locked one..which mean i cannot use the other carrier except at &t... urgh... i am going nuts...

Yes i have problem with my iPhone 4 mic also, but only when during calls. The mic cuts whenever it pleases during calls or from the start. I have tried with mic, speaker, headset, bluetooth, GPS but same problem. I have managed to get the mic on back during calls by banging it... They don't replace iPhone 4 with this error so i have to send it in for repair. Also a replacement can take a month because of the low stock in Norway for iPhone 4 so far :(

Yea I got the problem too and I'm going to apple for a new iPhone. They said it's a batch problems with early iPhone 4 manufactured in may. Just go to apple store, appointment, and they ll replace your phone
