how come i never heard of portishead?? something is really wrong here...im 18 is this before my time?! how can this be ?! im so pissed off right now...i instantly fell in love with them.
Had a rough day - found out that the university made a mistake and that I didn't really graduate after all (they told me I did two months ago and printed out a copy of completion)! I need a ton more credits apparently. I listen to this and realize that at least I am not alone.
My art professor showed this video to us as an example for mixing up and building connections between High and Pop Culture. Some components are found in the art video Flex of Chris Cunningham from 2000.
I was told that this music video was filmed underwater and she was actually lip-syncing, because you apparently cannot sing underwater. Love the music video! =]
@WhatTheFuchs Yes, the swimming, but also the unusual way their hair, the boy's shirt and his shoelaces were moving. I was also told by my film professor that this music video was influenced by an experimental film called Un Chien Andalou (An Andalusian Dog). At 0:14 the man in the apartment is shown without a mouth. Similarly in Un Chien Andalou, a man is shown without his mouth beginning at 13:00
Unfortunately, no. But believe it or not, he was very, very close to one: an adaptation of William Gibson's Neuromancer. It was confirmed abandoned in 2004. It never got past the scriptwriting stage.
Cunningham is amazing, and he knows it. His fans want a picture that embodies him, and he wants that too. But it's been ten years since he's created anything of real substance.
I believe it is to keep youtube from recognizing the video, as it would likely be removed by youtube if they could recognize it. I'm not sure how it works, or what technology is used, but flipping the video avoids a match through youtubes scanners. If youtube finds a match that is protected, youtube takes the video down. You'll see flipped videos fairly often, actually.
@stickmister321 oh ok. yeah i didnt notice, cuz i havent seen the original in so long. i had it on my pnyc dvd, but i mostly only watch the actual concert footage, not the videos, except for the live version of wandering star. its ashame they didnt play that at roseland. :/

@t0nib0l0gna Gee. It was filmed underwater? You think? What gave it away? Was it the swimming?

has Chris Cunningham directed any actual films? Michel Gongry and Spike Jonze obviously have. What has he done since his music video years?

What happened to the original posting of this video? Sometimes the air feels as thick as this video makes it look.

@sullyvsearth This vid was actually filmed in an underwater tank and they just put in a background, quite impressive if u ask me..
