This video would help if he actually showed how to throw a curveball instead of "how to pitch" and "let me throw one quickly". Helpful videos actually show the proper arm angles (ie how the palm is towards your face, 90 degrees with the elbow, etc) instead of "STAY CLOSE TO YOUR BODY KIDS".
I love the comments on this video, one of the big keys to pitching is hitting the corners and trying to get guys to chase and clearly most people on here think the way you pitched in little league is the way you're supposed to pitch in the big leagues
Just read a few of your other comments. Sooo he shouldn't try to throw a curve ball till he is older? What should he stay away from besides that to stay healthy?
Thank you John, I am the grandmother(gammy) that has ruined rotator cuffs. I want to show my grangson how to throw a ball but the pain wont allow me to. These are great. Wish you could film a close up, slow-mo of your hand release. I knew he could throw when at two he pegged me with small water balloons over and over that summer. I dont know too much about Baseball but I want him to know. He had his first T-ball camp this summer and got a home run first off.
and superappleman9 that not totally true if your 15and you can throw it properly go ahead but not to often because yes that will mess your arm up. and its tommy john surgery.
if your 15 teen or younger do not throw a curve ball it can mess up your whole arm and get tommy jack surgery and end your whole baseball moto forever.
the whole point of a curveball is for it to not land in the strike zone. A good hitter will take it 400 feet if it is left hanging in the strike zone.
hello friend as I can be your friend for me to explain some things to grab me for a mechanical failure good I'm from the Dominican Republic I'm shooting right pitcher has 92 miles mi msn is adalwin45@
screw pitching curveballs...id rather hit them...send them to track, to the wall, and its GONE!!! lol, im not a pitcher, im an infielder...1B, 2B, SS, and 3B
I'm about to be 13 and every curveball I've pitched with a 1-1 or 0-2 count has always been a strike. I pitch from the 60.5 mound and I'm having a lot of success withthe pitch. one time with a 1-1 count, this little kid was up, and I threw one right at his head. He went into a protective stance, and it curved perfectly into the lower outside corner. His face was precious! I believe that as a young pitcher, you can pitch a curveball, just pitch it just like a fastball. Dont put any twist on it.
@insanityguy1 He's John Riedling and he can throw a hell of a lot better than you can because he played in the MLB. My name is insanityguy1 and I wish I could throw a baseball.
i throw a nastey curve.. My dad doesnt want me to through it no more cause it's bad for your elbow. Gotta wait till college i guess. This demonstration sucks! I throw my curve way different.
@SuuperSIZEme no not into college i play in AA which stands for double A and they told us that you can throw a curveball but you got to be like 14 15 because your elbow is stronger
wow that was the worst curve ive ever seen i didnt break and if it did guess u could classiy that as a sinker cuz that wasnt even close to the strike zone
Your way kinda helped but I couldn't throw it constantly u should try throwing ur curve with the back of ur hand facing u then turning it where ur palm faces u it's a whole lot easy
Oh, and when people say dont throw a curve for a strike, stop listening. When you are up two strikes, dont. Regardless of where that pitch is, a sharp breaking curve is still difficult to hit. Ive had games when id get a fastball drill me in the elbow while hitting, and it would hurt to throw a fastball, so i resort to my curve, and i'll get 8 to 12 strikeouts a game. If u can control your pitches, and gain movement, you can dominate. Its not about speed, its about control and movement...
Im 17 and ive been training as a pitcher since i was 7. I am left handed. Lefty fastballs dont curve because we cant get over, our arms just naturally roll over sooner then right handers, causing the ball to have more of a spin that right handers dont get.
It wont because lefty's can't get full over hand, and that's why they have alot of tail on fastballs. Then right handers can throw 3 quarters too and it wouldn't matter.
im 15yrs old and iv been pitching for years and im a lefty and people always say i have a tail on my fastball because i cant throw over hand like u said--so i agree with u
You should throw it at their sholder and let it drop in so they back at cause its close to their head or throw a hard one so it looks like a fastball coming in and drop out
@sizemo7 u could but the idea is to freeze them really ofcourse u gotta throw it outta the strike zone to get them to chase but if u can let it break inside or have enough break for outside ull be a good pitcher
@spencermcgee that works in lower levels of baseball, but when you get into varsity or college good batters will hit doubles all day because it drops in the middle of the strike zone.
@spencermcgee but those are the ones that fall right to the strike zone. so a good hitter will detect the curveball, stay in the box and wait for it to curve into the middle of the plate and drive it out.
That was a great curve.. down in the strike zone where batters are unable to hit the ball.. Usually the curve ball is not thrown for a strike.. its used to fool the batter just like a high fast ball or a out off the plate fast ball.. As long as that curve ball can be kept down in the zone you wont get hit.. and it can be used as a strikeout pitch everytime.. Perfect time to throw a pitch like this is a count 2s 1b .. in this situation you dont want a strike you want something the batter cant hit
yeah, but if they don't swing b/c they think 'ball' they get a strike, nasty trick I learned, throw it high at the top of the strike zone, and let it drop and they miss completley, its funny to watch...
Mate i guarentee you when you throw that pitch up you will get slapped all over the park.. You might strike someone out or 2 but it wont last.. After that what else can you throw?.. Changeup, split/knuckle are only strikeout pitches if you have perfected them.. Never throw a curve for a strike.. If you throw it and they dont swing you get a strike then you know you have to work on that pitch.. Leave it outa the strike zone
Lmao yes ofcourse a person who plays major league agros over the internet.. sad person.. And i say mate al the time im aussie im proud and i have represented my country in baseball many times.. My names Lloyd Burgess look me up.. Who are you mate.. Noone so stop acting you obviously have no clue what the hell your going on about. Please be quiet MATE .. and seriously who do you THINK you are pfft
i googled him. got drafted and played some triple-a baseball.... thats pretty far given that theres thousands upon thousands of pitchers nationwide looking for a team to play on
im 11 and i can throw a curveball w. out realy twisting or hurting my arm...i hold it like a 2 seam and turn it sideways in ur glove and think fastball while u folo thru until the release point when u let it slide off ur top finger...its not the fastest curve mine prob clocks in bout 43 44 thts just a gues btw but it easly curves...10 feet? haha jk...seriously tho like 6-7 inches im not lying
you shouldnt really be throwing curves until your through puberty unless you go to someone who knows how to pitch and his good, or else like me you will hurt your elbow a little bit and it will hurt to pitch for a while
thats a horrable way to throw a curve. you need to hold the ball at the middle like a 2 seam with that grip. then come down like a fastball and snap ur wrist when u release that will cause it to go down and out
yeah and fuck up your elbow moron you hold your hand like he says in 30 when you pitch it and throw it like a fastball you dont curve your hand cause itll tweak your muscles
The thing with #3 is it's called "the stretch", not "pickoff position", and many people use the stretch regardless of if there is a man off or not. And he probably has a stutter.
#1. It was a curve. #2. He's on camera, oh well if he stutters a bit. #3 It's called the stretch, and quite a lot of people stand in that position while pitching. I'd say a good 40% of people. Now stop being an idiot.
thats not what staying closed means...it is referring to keeping your front shoulder at your target as long as possible to avoid pulling you arm from its natural slot...you should always be watching your target when you throw so what does your chin have to do with anything??
Thats cuz u suck at baseball u pathetic peice of crap y dont u go and practice it some more i didn't ever even no how to throw anything other that a fastball but i just tryed making up my own pitches and threw a slurve, curve, volcan change, knuckle curve, cut change, and cutter, and a 2 seamer that moves like a foot bitch.
Great tips

thats not what staying closed means...it is referring to keeping your front shoulder at your target as long as possible to avoid pulling you arm from its natural slot...you should always be watching your target when you throw so what does your chin have to do with anything??
marseneault31 2 years ago
For some reason I can not get this pitch to work.

A vulcan change? I'm pretty sure you stole that from slugfest's selection of "magic" pitches.

I have to severely question that because no one's curveball should be faster than their change up. You're probably just here messin' with people.
