I'm a muslim and so is my family, It's worth mentioning that even for us Muslims, women in burqas look scary and its very difficult to communicate with them. Most women where I live (Egypt) don't wear veils (burqas), most women wear a head scarf that covers the hair but not the face, and those who wear burqas are considered extremists.
Living in a world where terrorist activities rise by the day, I regard seeing the face of people near me as one of my human rights. To have people in my vicinity wearing anything which prevents me from identifying them is an affront to my human rights.

@Ahlam1981 Would you prefer me to use the term horseshit? Fact does not show my ignorance: your religion, along with many out there, are actually demonstrably wrong. These are myths, just like unicorns, fairies, flying spaghetti monsters, etc. If someone came up to you and declared they were a prophet, would you instantly believe them, or demand some kind of evidence?
I'm not saying you have access to nothing secular, just nothing secular about Islam.

@Ahlam1981 All I did in my first post is point out the similarities between a burka and a tent - they are pretty similar in principle. Then you jump to call me a redneck. Trust me, I wouldn't just associate the term 'mobile tent' with the burka alone, but people who wear ponchos as well, as they also are similar to tents.

@Ahlam1981 You were the first to fling insults around my friend. I feel sorry for your lack of communication skills with others in your community. Not because I think your socially inept or anything, but your body language and facial expressions communicate A LOT of emotion and expression that you simply can't communicate in your voice alone. By shutting everyone out you may as well be staying inside and just talking to everyone with a phone.

@Ahlam1981 -ive read books on women and media, and yes pop culture (porn, fashion etc) is disgusting and dehumanizing to women, but so is the niqab/burqa. you are your choices, being honest with wut i think of your choice is not disrespectful. lying and saying that to me the niqab is just another piece of cloth while women in pakistan and afghanistan get acid thrown in the face for NOT wearing it, that is disrespectful to those women, and every human being.

Just because it's for religious motives doesn't mean the rest of the world should instantly respect your choice. The FACT is your religion, along with the rest of them, is pure bullshit spread by fear. Actually do some research from historical, scientific, secular sources and you'll reach that conclusion

@cincofone No one deserves to be ridiculed for the way they dress; not a woman wearing niqab, not a woman in a miniskirt. Other people have the responsibility to treat you as a person, regardless of what you're wearing. Using someone's clothing as an excuse to treat them as less than a person is immature, ridiculous, and makes YOU the horrible person.

Well done for summing up Islam's attitude towards women. No one's forcing her to dress like a tent (or at least I would hope not), and if she chooses to dress in such a ridiculous way for bullshit religious motives, that's her problem, she can deal with the consequences.

@zafarafridi Well, that depends on what you mean by see through dress, i.e. how much can be seen. I live in Australia and see many women at the beach wearing bikinis and such, but you can't really see them showing everything.

@Ahlam1981 I agree with what you said sister I did not mean to offend you any way, you just responded to a question I asked a man proposing that hijab is legislated in the Quran and quoting a hadith that says "and all of a woman is awrah, when she leaves her home, Satan looks at her." meaning, any man with a lustful eye. however, in the Quran, when the word awrah is used, it is confined neither only to women nor the body.you are strong enough not to let filthy minds of ppl affect ur choices

I did not mean to personally slight you, but one's reminded of my sister who when she was asked by a Muslim why she did not observe the hijab responded that if a man was aroused by the sight of a lock of hair, he should consult a neurologist. Put differently, the demand that only women should cover their hair whilst men do not is plainly a sexist imposition. Men are no less attractive to women. Otherwise, I concur with you. Take care.
