U2 did not write Achtung Baby. The real writer was ripped off and decided to leave the music industry and is now studying art in Dublin. She intends to write a book about the rip-off after the lead singer dies.
@CT2790 I am so glad to have made you lol.;). What sort of proof do you require? It all went down in 1989 in a bar called the Pitz in Southern Ireland.
@CT2790 Well, I just gave you the year,1989, the month was september of 89. The location was a bar in Southern Ireland. It was a rip-off. Things like that dont tend to come with documented proof. I have been to solicitors and talked to journalists and they have said'' Verbal testimoney or written proof is needed before anything can be done'. There was another girl with me in the bar that night and Adam Clayton gave her 2,000 pounds not to testify against the band.
@CT2790 If there was no rip-off, why did Adam CLayton pay off Linda Murphy? The fact that she took the money was as bad as the fact that they gave it to her. So much treachery in one night. She was unbelievable. It was not until 1993 that she admitted she took the money. Up to then she swore she was only getting his autograph. I did not believe her obviously. I then got her to phone Principle Management in Dublin to admit what she had done. They refused to believe her.
@CT2790 Principle Management is U2's management company in Ireland. I had told them what had happened and they are the most brainwashed bunch of employees I have ever met in my life. maybe they think there is some sort of social cachet to be had in working for U2, I dont know, but they would hear nothing against the band despite all the information I provided. I have never been a slave to any employer so maybe it is just me but I thought they were like cult members, over-devoted.
@CT2790 Lol, I am going to go and watch the Social Network now to see what you mean. I am aware of who it is about but that is all I know about it.;).
I really love the idea of the band coming off tour and having to follow tape around their houses. It's the beginnings of a great comedy but I guess Spinal Tap already has it covered.
Edge and U2 in general intrigue me. They are not super talented musicians, (other than Bono, he has a unique and fantastic voice) they do nothing spectacular on stage, and so many of their songs sound the exact same. same bland bass and drums, same goofy, echoing reverb-heavy guitar. Yet so many people are obsessed with their sound.
Ah, figuring out U2's popularity. I'm going to stick with the US. First, we have to determine what is so popular. Their singles? Actually, theyhaven't charted so high in their last 3 albums. They've done well in sub-categories, like adult contemporary, but even hits like Beautiful Day and Vertigo have peaked on the main chart at #21 and #31, respectively. They've done better in the rest of the world, but again, I'm only covering the US. (cont'd)
(cont'd) Albums? They usually start at #1 and go on to sell about 2 million. Good but a long way from their peak selling days of Joshua/Rattle/Achtung. Concerts? Now we're talking. I know that they've sold out every show of the 00's up until this tour. I know they fell short on some concerts(give Europe its props...I believe they sold out every show), but they're still able to sell out the Rose Bowl with over 97,000 people. ((cont'd)
So what is it about their concerts? I'll have to disagree with you that "they do nothing spectacular onstage." All you have to do is watch what catapulted them to worldwide success and that is the performance of "Bad" at Live Aid. If you don't think what Bono did was spectacular, in that it was both epic and intimate within the span of one song, then you'll never understand their popularity. And while the other 3 may not do anything spectacular most of the time, they do have presence. (cont'd)
(cont'd) People know them and like them. If you watch this whole "Day in the Life" deal and don't laugh throughout it at Edge's tour through his day, then I've been wasting my time here. You're hopeless. Also, U2 have an energy and power that few bands can match. At their best (which I think is in arenas, not stadiums) they feed off the crowd and the crowd does the same. One band that I think does the same is Green Day. (cont'd)
(cont'd) Seeing them live is like a 2 hour bolt of electriciy shot through you. And the audience is there not just to observe, but to be a very big part of the show. As far as the old "their songs all sound the same," I'm not sure how to address that. I just don't get it, They sound very different to me. I can differentiate each song in a few notes, They also bring me back to different periods of my life, good and bad. I've stuck with them through thick and...well...thicker. Ok, that's enough.
I wonder what he could auction that vox amp for. The amp that has been to every tour, on every album, since they became U2. How much would you think it's worth?
simple as a flower that trancends to the devine. You are probably not a musician so you don't appreciate the Edge's simple yet amazing style. One of the best musicians in history.
I give the Edge credit for re-introducing what David Gimour Developed with an old Binson delay unit, and made it popular in the 80's, besides he. But if not with Gilmours experimants with Binson and MXR DDLS, i doubt the edge would of fulfilled his is sounds, LOL, sorry, sad and simple technique aside, the DDL was a major factor in his sound. enough said. And Gimour mastered it in the 70's while the Edge was pissign in his pull ups or diapers. Or bed weting over the ringing of delay in sleep.
Apparently early on in their career Bono was unhappy with the way a gig was going, so he hit the amp with either his foot or his guitar - not sure which.
Actually Edge gets a lot of his Vox AC30 amps (he has about 30) second hand so it was the previous band that kicked it. Bono doesn't have a size 20 foot! =)

Bono : Who's this to your right?
Edge: This is Dallas, my guitar technician...and friend
Dallas: yeah.
Dallas is really sweet :D
JVoH4god 7 months ago
Bono: "Dallas, what's the worst thing about working with the Edge?"
Dallas: "When you call out a song that's not on the set list and I have to scramble to find the effects in the computer."
So, Dallas, you're saying the worst thing about working with the Edge is, in fact, Bono? :D

Things don't have to be horribly complicated to be good. Sometimes simple can sound good. It sure works for U2. (:
