ill make an easy comparison. you buy a preowned car, 5k original 16k. the fabricators of the car then charge you 1/6 of its price for the privilege of driving that car... (1000$) it just doesn't add up. if a company wants to charge you for server space fine. charge 1$ to keep their info, but don't start demanding that they pay for things like locked content (batman arkham city). at this rate piracy seems like a better option and i don't think thats the bridge they want to cross.
@CheckOutMyPokemons . Looking at what microsoft rumours etc. it dosnt suggest multi installs , ild be concerned about RROD on the 720 or similar borked machines , what happens then , rebuy all games ?
A lot of PC games allow you to install your game on a limited number of computers now days. Im not gonna start crying if you cant buy second hand games anymore, but i think it may hurt the games shops that do a lot of their business through second hand games
Can a developer make money from used material . Of course they can , used game = long time past release date , wouldn't sell it other wise so make no money on the sale but earn a few quid on dlcs
the reason that its more accepted on pc is that you get sales where you can buy relatively new games for 30-60%off if the console market went more digital and offered the same services it wouldn't be a big deal. the problem is that they are using a solid piece of hardware and are trying to sell it as a service. if they want to regulate the used sale market they should give you incentive to buy the product new. (free bonuses) they should not limit your ability to resale however.
@Jbob1917 Nope, it's always been that way for PC games because of piracy. It's only recently that digital distribution has allowed for PC games to be priced like that.
Developers SUPPORT gamestop. They align with them and put up ads in the stores and all sorts of stuff. If the gaming companies are upset about it, let them. Until then... Why would we ever get upset about it?
I honestly think it's a great way to build up collections of systems that are no longer being sold new. Although, I still would like it so we have pre-owned games so that we don't have to spend 60 dollars on a game just to buy it, or wait a year to get it when it's cheaper.
Normally if I come into gamestop with 10 or 15 games and return them I normally walk out with $30 or $40. Then gamestop will normally sell them again for a total of $80 to $90.
Why do they need more money? How many times have developers offered to refund gamers when their games don't work properly?
Eliminating used games would just kill games off quicker, look at mag, you need x amount of players to start a game, used games increase player count and keep it going.
if they do take away used game then they should lower the price for new games by 15-20 bucks. i'd buy more games if they were cheaper at launch. publishers could sell retailers new activation keys for used games that way they would still make money. kind of like the ms points/psn cards they sell.
i look at it this way: i have no money, publishers have lots of money, who cares. BUT i buy good games (with the exception of mw3 *BLAH*) new. the games i usually buy used are either old or im not sure that they will be good. maybe id buy more new games if the quality was better, but then again no matter what there will always be shitty games. dont get me wrong though all my current games i got new. i do agree though gamestop does bastardize the used games quite a bit
I wouldn't be a fan of so many games if it wasn't for hand-me-downs or used games. I eventually bought their new games new down the road. Trying to destroy the used gaming market could very well put console gaming into a depression, especially now with the competition from games you can play on phones and computers for free.
didnt bf3 do this to play online? bc i remember having to put in a code that im fairly certain makes it so that if i were to install to another profile it wouldnt work. correct me if im wrong tho
If they want to have an on-line passes, then have them. As for Gamestop, let the market decide. But why hurt the consumer. I can accept Gamestops offer or not. But either way I am getting store credit, a reduction in what I would otherwise pay, to buy the game. The developer has already gotten their cut on the old game and they will get their cut on the new game I just bought whether I traded in a game to buy it or not. PS - go to BestBuy they give you more money for your games.
pc players generally are people with more money to buy the top gear and console players a lot of times are younger and dont have the money, they NEED to sell their old games to afford to get new ones
@iamogreman221 No...I compare it too PC players being more mature. Has nothing to do with income really. With PC, buy a budget rig, find a game that lasts a while and you are set. I feel like that is where the real difference is. With mods and game devs like Valve, the games are enjoyable for great amounts of time. While with console devs, they have to put out a new game every year.
if they wont allow you to use used games i will NEVER buy a microsoft product again! money whoring fucks can suck it. i will stick to sony from now on, ive had a 360 and a ps3 but with this system, i sure as hell will not buy the 720...what a rip off
@iamogreman221 hate to break it to you but its not a Microsoft vs Sony issue. Its about everyone who produces games vs companies like Gamestop. Sony will try to do it too
Yes, gamestop is taking advantage of it. On the other hand, they are within their rights to. And if publishers start to regulate it more and more where does it stop? Making games playable only through a 24/7 online connection and a monthly subscription to access your game even though it's a single player? Slippery slope..
@even1313 What's wrong with a simple CD key or something similar. Its no different for PC games, they make it work... Tie the CD key to gamer tag similar to games on a steam account.
@geirbiscohn Relatively simple solution. But couldn't people just sell their gamertags, too? Every time you create a hotmail email account you get a new gamertag. I don't know how feasible that would be though.
People would find a way around it eventually though, where there is a will there is a way. Anyways, it's not to much of a concern for me because I've been a pc gamer for well..ever. I just hate to see things being restricted, because where does it stop?
I completely agree. I don't sell my games to them anymore. I sold my friend Black Ops, I got more money than if I were to sell it to GS and he saved more money as well.
my lnephew bought a used copy of black ops. and he di the whole trade in old stuff for new stuff. i did the trade in thing and i saved a lot so is that bad?
Used games definitely are the best way to go because a lot of the times in places like gamestop they have a dumb policy where if you buy a game new you can only return it for the same game. Used games can be traded in within 7 days which is enough time to see if you like it or not and they are also cheaper :)
we can all agree that gamestop is the problem. i love the fact that i can get games cheaper, but gamestop is a scam. and another thing. video games are over priced. the $60 standard is too high for a COPY.
@iFiasko who are you to decide what a fair price for something is? The logical way to protest a price you feel to be unfair is to not buy it. If anything things like used games and piracy will only make new games cost more.
@geirbiscohn and i dont buy games new if i feel the game is not worth the price. i wait for a price drop or if i can find it used for cheap. and as consumers we do get to decent what price is fair. would you go out and spend money on somthing you thought wasnt worth it?
@geirbiscohn i totally agree about buying games used being bad for Dev. & publishers. but imagine if games were cheaper. more people would by them. eliminate the used games garbage and lower the price of games. consumers and producers will be happier.
