Both because there are so many different beautiful voices out there that do not sound the same. The world is boring if everybody had same voice or sang the same. I can name several other artists that have great voices that sound nothing like Mariah or Kelly but have great voice no matter if its live or on cd. Of course I like variety. They both are incredible singers and have a lot of great songs.
The great thing about Kelly in this video is it shows some of her veristility - pop, jazz, r&b, rock, so on... there are not many artists that can sing different genres and pull it off... and it not like Kelly uses her same voice onn each song and changes the music, she actually alters her voice, her phrasing, her runs, and anything she can do to better fit the genre.
Mariah has strong voice but I really hate her squeaking and so monotonous songs. Mariah's last good album was Butterfly (1997). On the other hand, Kelly can sing different musical genres. Kelly is much more versatile artist. Yes, Mariah has longer career - Who cares? We are talking about talent not longetity. Kelly's Breakaway outsold all Mariah's albums in 2000's.
That was well said, thankyou. I have been trying to tell people that and they fail to realize Kelly's talent over Mariah's. Her voice is way too sqeaky and gets annoying! That is not talent, for a talent in singing reqires much skill and versitility, which Mariah has none of. Thus making Kelly a much better singer by miles. Before Kelly had classical training in high school, her voice was (still is) NATURAL. She was compared to Mariah even when she was in middle school. And There is video to prove it. Classical training just made it even more better than it is and Kelly herself said that her classical training helped her be so versatile. Even when she was on Idol Randy praised her, and said she was one of the best nautal voices he had heard in a long time.
well, I never heard Kelly singing before she had classical training in HS, so who is to say she was still able to belt her precious (albeit strained) G#5s and A5s then??? No one. Both because there are so many different beautiful voices out there that do not sound the same. The world is boring if everybody had same voice or sang the same. The great thing about Kelly in this video is it shows some of her veristility - pop, jazz, r&b, rock, so on... there are not many artists that can sing different genres and pull it off... and it not like Kelly uses her same voice onn each song and changes the music, she actually alters her voice, her phrasing, her runs, and anything she can do to better fit the genre.

Mariah has strong voice but I really hate her squeaking and so monotonous songs. Mariah's last good album was Butterfly (1997). On the other hand, Kelly can sing different musical genres. Kelly is much more versatile artist. Yes, Mariah has longer career - Who cares? We are talking about talent not longetity. Kelly's Breakaway outsold all Mariah's albums in 2000's.

LOL, Kelly would use all of her transient vocal range and power on one A5 and then her voice would be dead and scratchy for the rest of the performance. Kinda like in "The Trouble With Love Is," her voice sounded GRISLY immediately after she hit that A5. I was like "OMFG, is she dying???" She must've needed some heavy duty throat lozenges after that performance was over, because her voice was RAW. You could tell by the very last note. Yuck.

and Carrie has MORE natural range and power than Kelly; again, I ascribe that to the fact that she's been on tour for over a YEAR now and hasn't lost her voice even ONCE, whereas Kelly loses her voice EVERY single promo era. Kelly would be turning ALL different shades of red if they performed live together, because Carrie's voice WOULDN'T fatigue, Kelly's WOULD.

Before Kelly had classical training in high school, her voice was (still is) NATURAL. She was compared to Mariah even when she was in middle school. And There is video to prove it. Classical training just made it even more better than it is and Kelly herself said that her classical training helped her be so versatile. Even when she was on Idol Randy praised her, and said she was one of the best nautal voices he had heard in a long time.

And again, I'm sure that it was one of those performances that the judges re-watched on TV when they got home and noticed how awful the "whistle" note was. lmao, Carrie's F#5 IS sustained, that's why it has vibrato and she can actually come DOWN from it, and notice there's no change in timbre since she's staying in her CHEST VOICE. Kelly goes into a different register (chest combined with lots of head) just to hit it. It only SOUNDS like chest because of how scratchy and strident it is, one wouldn't imagine head voice having to be that scratchy lmao.

She attempted something called a "crescendo," which, in her case, went horribly wrong. She started it flat, even if she winded up reaching the F#6, but when she did, the pitch started to waver and she sounded like she was going to crack. That is why she NEVER attempted that note EVER again, not even in the STUDIO VERSION OF THE SONG! It's ABOVE her range. Not that I find whistle notes impressive anyway, because it's just a controlled scream, but she CANNOT do it. LOL, Carrie has screamed higher.

hell no, i have listen to the album Breakawy millions of times and the only song that she sounds like Avril is in "Breakaway", the other song she kind of sounds like Avril is in "Addicted" and that's about it.

and Carrie was praised by GnR fans on their OWN forum, the same forum that LAUGHED at Kelly for her SCOM attempt, LMFAO. She sounded like Avril Lavigne with a slightly stronger vocal, but a worse sense of pitch. Same with her pathetic go at Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart"...you call that singing?! LMAO.

I would love to hear Carrie belt out "Never Again" or any of the songs off My December, or "Behind These Hazel Eyes", "Stuff Like That There", "Up to the Mountain". She couldn't. And when Carrie hits foreign soil she want be as successful as Kelly b/c.
