Regarding projection error: assuming a video camera 22ft from rim (~3-point line) & 5 feet off the ground, simple trigonometry shows that for a max head height achieved 2 feet infront of the rim, a head height of 9'6.5" will appear to be 10 feet. For a max head height achieved 1 foot in front of the rim, 9'9.3" will appear to be 10 feet. That's a 2.5-5% error, equivalent to 1-2 frames using 29.97Hz sampling rate using flight time analysis, or saying that Bolt ran 9.10 instead of a 9.58 WR.
Just to keep people grounded, all this talk about 5'9-5'10 guys getting chin and shoulders on a 10 foot rim is rather silly -- it is because of projection error, plain & simple. This type of feat would imply they could hit their head on 10'8", which they obviously can't. To put things in perspective, James White who has an incredible vertical in his own right, is 6-8 and very long, yet he failed to touch 13'0" (top of backboard) when officially tested. IIRC no one ever has officially

All of these dudes seem to be two footed power jumpers. Something about that is not conducive to dunk contests, just doesn't look graceful.
