yeah... a very small world. actually my daughter was living in a block of flats names'' gun place''. just opposite the wapping tube stattion. i think this station doesnt exist any more. what a pity...
Ah, Gun Wharf, apartments, corner of Wapping Lane and the High Street, the underground station maybe still closed for refurbishing work, as part of the Thames link, which I believe will link south eventually to Crystal Palace, I do have a photo of a notice outside the station that gave reasons for temporary closure of the station, the converrsions of old buildings such as Gun Wharf took place during the mid to late 1980's, as new money came into the area, docklands scheme, London sunny, reg Tom
Hello, glad you have good memories of Wapping, I first cycled into Wapping around 1974, it was mostly deserted in those days, with the wharfs, warehouses long empty when the docks closed down towards the end of the 1960's, and in the 1970's the smell of peppers, spices where apperent especially during warmer days, I wished I had haved a video camera back then, but never mind, anyway, I thankyou for your kindly comments, London tonight, 28 Nov 2009, persistent rain yet again, Regards...
Sorry to have taken so long to reply to your kindly comment, I first cycled into Wapping back in around 1974, the gostly wharves, warehouses where quiet then until the developers came in during the mid 1980's, and then the magic was gone forever, the smell of yesterdays spices, peppers evaporated from the high street, Are you still living in Cumbria, or did you move back to east London?, the last time I was in Cumbria was in 2001, Barrow in Furness, Walney Island, I must pop there again,Regards
A small world, my friends live just across that small bit of water from you on Walney Island, one at Powerful Street, and the other at Biggar Bank, both locations Walney Island, The Wapping developments from what I recall started during the mid to late 1980's, the birth of the yuppie, and so on, the last time I was Walney was in Nov 2001 to attend a funeral of a friend who sadly took her life due to bipolar, I recall breakafst at tesco before crossing over to the little islamd, history, Reg,Tom

I've watched, To Sir With Love, a few times.
Very surreal seeing locations from the film to today.
Born and raised in Wapping, lived at Jackman Hse, along Watts St.
Also attended the old St Peters School next to The Turners Star pub, before moving to Garnet St.
Moved away around 1995...Still some decent memories of the place.
Nice Vid !!

Wow...1974 !! I wasn't born till 4 yrs later LOL !!
I have very few fragmented memories of Wapping during that time.
The rows of warehouses, I remember, were a prominent feature of the Wapping skyline. Rusting corrugated iron fences lining some streets !!
Also; as you mentioned, it was relatively quiet too.
I remember when development first started in Wapping, by the huge scaffolds and dust nets that surrounded, Gun Wharfs.
Yes, I'm still in Cumbria...Barrow-in-Furness, Ormsgill.

LOL very expensive I hear. Wapping has become very up-market now.
There are even a few celebrities who've lived there a while now.
