Hearing Sonny Stitt at the Smiling Dog Saloon in Cleveland in the 70s is what made me want to play jazz. Caught his last performance at Sweet Basil when I moved to NYC in 1982 (he died about a month later). It was a Sunday night and really quiet in the club. He sat right by me at the bar, but I was too intimidated to talk with him (I kind of thought of him as a god). What an amazing musician!
Thanks for posting - a great live cut by great players.
