they should of interviewed some people who are gonna give you an honest opinion, Sankey is a local business man who isnt gonna ward people away from the town because it would obviously financially effect him. And the council?? Iv found myself back here due to circumstance and let me tell you the place is a drug haven, Most people are on them or are involved in crime due to the lack of jobs. Iv been lucky enough to have travelled europe and have an open mind. Mansfields universe ends at kingsmill

Unemployment, recession, loss of local businesses/mining/textile industries all cause problems for the area. Many are having to retrain if they want a hope of working again, myself included. On the upside though Ive lived in several different countries over the years and still have to see a nightlife Mansfield has to offer, (just ignore the police presence and the odd fight!) The atmosphere is great, everyone's always friendly, a great Friday/Saturday night always to be had!

I lived in Mansfield from 1956/58 moving there from Shrewsbury.

On first impression it seemed a grim dirty town but on aquaintance it was not as bad as it seemed.

I was just eight years old when we moved there & went to Broomhill school.

As for the people of Mansfield my mother found the kind hearted & generous, nothing was too much trouble for them.

I have been back a few times on sentimental journies & will always have a soft spot for the town.

From Mansfield most of the country is in easy reach with beautiful countryside on the doorstep. What lets it down are many residents with a stunted view of the wider world. They revel in ignorance confused as pride of local ways. Ironically they are proud to be Mansfield 'born and bred' but walk around the streets shouting like idiots and disrespecting the place. To be fair Mansfield took a battering when its colliery heart was ripped out, but it needs to self respect and proper direction.

atleast u aint the worst i live in middlesbrough and our town may look horrible but its only because we have loads of factories to serve the uk.s needs and the peopl at channel 4 dont see that!

Its not Mansfield thats at fault, its the people that live there. Everyone looked so miserable, what a depressing town, the bus station is dirty (again residents at fault), no customer service in any of the shops, no one takes pride in themselves, its a really depressing place. I visit occasionally as my parents still live there, but I can never wait to go back to Reading, a town thats got it so right.

The real culprits are the council vandals who destroyed the traditional buildings in the 1960's to build the dreadful shopping centre. Chesterfield got it right, when they kept the traditional facade of the Town Square.
