My African American father ( why doesn't this country just let us say American) served the country, when he came home from Germany, then Korea, me and sister were born. This was one of their albums. Born 1961, old school in the houze!!! yeaaa...! I love Stevie 4 ever. Nothing get's better than my memories in New Jersey. Love you Mom and Dad, RIP.
My father was in Boston on a business trip in the late 80's having a drink in the hotel bar and Stevie and his entourage came in for a few. My father somehow got to talking to Stevie and Stevie offered him tickets to the show. He had to leave town that day but I'll never forget that story.
Thanks everyone for your kind words. The wedding was a dream day and every day from now on will be a special day for us. Keep the faith that's all you need.
Remember this song from the movie the goat. After watching the movie i met the Goat in spanish Harlem a little before he passed away. Memories are lived through music.
I remember this when I split from the love of my life in '69. Walking home with tears streaming down my face. Never forgot her or got over her, I still loved her down the years. Met up again through F/reunited 40 years later. We are getting married on 5th Nov. I've finally come to my place in the sun. You can bet we'll play this record on the day and I'll hold her so tight. We will never lose each other again.
@MrNormthenorm GREAT STORY WE HOPE IT ALL WORK'S OUT FOR YOU AND A LONG AND HAPPY LIFE FOR YOU BOTH OF YOU . LOVE IS REALLY GREAT WE FOUND LOVE 37 YEARS AGO .
This song changed my life. Doing 12 years at the age of 16. Heard this while doing a month in the hole and once i got out never looked back. Family man with a respectful career. Going home every night is the place in the sun for me. God bless.
Such an inspirational song! Everyone at one point in their life is trying to find their "place in the sun". I know I am. Thanks Stevie for a GREAT song!
@sonep511 Me too. The reason being it's fantastic and we all have a wish to be somewhere that we like. I want people to be happy when I'm gone, celebrate!
Just think!~ Justin Timberlake, Justin beaver, Usher, Neyo, Chris brown,Trey Songz, John legend, Alecia keys, Beyonce, Riahana, Kesha, and the list goes on, would not have been talented enough to be on any label in the 60's and 70's! ,that means, Motown, Stax, Atlantic, Capital, Philly label, etc.. So! Sooooo! Sad!! and they are sooo not talented, they are just singing songs of confusion! that's what the world is Today!!` Hey .....Hey!~
What I hate is how people keep making non-musicians famous. Kim Kardashian is coming out with a song and you know she'll get more radioplay than a Stevie Wonder ever did and that is just sad and ridiculous.
And another thing, more and more, new music is only about strong techno-ish beats with a lipsynched voice or bad lyrics.
Here, the whole song is MADE by Stevie's voice and lyrics, not the background music.
T-Pain should take a look at this vid to see REAL music.
I can not think of any artist who should have or deserved to be blessed with the gifts and kife that Stevie has had..he is a pillar..a true genius..no matter what era classical. jazz he still would have been a genius..funny how his 6th grade teacher told his Mom the best he could hope to be was a basket weaver. And he has changed the musical landscape forever and been a positive force in American culture.
This is a beautiful song... With such a sad feel to it. I can picture a battle-fatigued soldier, tired and broken from battle, taking off his helmet to rest in the dusty shade, or a slave being worked beyond the bounds of his capacity only to get a small piece of bread.
@2009Denisem Could'nt agree more Denise, This is the first time i've heard this song, but i love it. Stevie Wonder would have been starting out then, as i loved his seventies hits, but what a lovely song. Great post johnniewalker23 and thank you Denise for sharing this unearthed (for me anyway) gem.
@2009Denisem I couldn't agree with you more...you have spoken for me and for everyone. There is hope for EVERYONE encapsulate the wonderful spirit of the 60s decade. Music of the 60s will never be repeated en masse for many many decades to come. A great song poster, thank you.
I was born in '74 and discovered the music of the decade or so before my birth when I was 12. I prefered it over the stuff of 20 years ago when I was a teenager and definately today. It was one of the best ever eras for music and can't really be compared to the 40 years since.
