@KaitainCPS I would have to agree. This tune is just right. There must be a good reason there is no vid of "Precious Time" on the tube. I looked it up elsewhere after I saw your comment and was madly impressed. "Shanghai Sky" is quite beautiful as well.
@soapbxprod yes and he also did the score for "Mike's Murder" unfortunately most of the music wasn't released on the movie soundtrack with the exception of a unusual song called " Cosmopolitan".
@evelynmh I agree with you man Ive followed Joe ever Since Look Sharp. Mikes Murder Is One of the best unkowns from Joe ..yes along with Tucker a man and his dream.Laughter and lust is Probably one of my Fav's.and that Song Angel ..maybe Common People w/ Captain Kirk ...yeah Joe Is a Genius that most people don't know.
I was a camera assistant on a rock video shot at the Roundabout Theatre in NYC in 1986 as Joe was recording Big World. Joe Jackson deserves Knighthood.
joe jackson`big world in 1986 changed my life i played that 2 record set...3 sides of music was so great it didnt need a fourth album side....my first digital expeirience. i hated the 80s music at the time but found that great real talent existed when this record came out. kent crawford recording artist seattle washington.
Other contenders for me are "Blaze of Glory", and "Night and Day II", which I thought was an awesome concept album with a warm, dream-like vibe running through it.
Yeah, it's a great album. This is a terrific opener, and it's chock-full of great tracks. "Home Town", "Precious Time", "Shanghai Sky", "Fifty Dollar Love Affair", "Man In The Street"...
@johnnydelbravo Went to this tour when it came out he he worn the same coat in Rotterdam, tour outfit, even Joe haha. Was a great concert, I have this concert from Tokyo on dvd taped it over from my VHS tape. Not for sale anymore for many years, hope for the fans it will be again, it,s a great concert.Going to see him again in Rotterdam next Oktober for the first time since 1986, misses him all those years, .Took me a long time to catch up with him haha;-) Cheers
Same here! I'm just going through all my LP's and just got to this album and had to look for videos. (I started this quest in May and might be finished next autumn...)
@sandshark666 well, there,s Micheal Jackson,s father with the same name, cost a lot of confusion when MJ fans search for him and end up with this Joe whom ofcourse they mostley never heard of, some comments are really funny ;-)
Just need to think of that when you say therem,s only one ;-)
But know what you mean ofcourse and totally agree ;-)
I have the making of Big World still on VHS a few songs, great to watch the the album making proces, the frustration when someone in the audience start clapping before the song is over, and Joe forgot his lyrics after Gary started a wrong beat ;} classic ;}}} Impressive album, real artist to do it like that, chapeau Joe ;}
Wouldn't it be the coolest if all albums were made the way "Big World" was... beautiful live ambience, performances honed to perfection, actual starts and finishes to the songs (no stupid fade-outs like typical pop fodder), and best of all, no need for the artist to worry about how to translate or replicate complicated recordings in a concert setting because that's where the recording was created!!
It definitely would be! But sadly too many artists who make records wouldn't have a hope in hell of being able to play anything live, let alone perform a whole track together AS A BAND.
@Roskomaximus I love this song too! It's not one of his better known. I love that whole album. Agree completely about his guts in making it that way. The word "integrity" is shopworn, but if it fits anyone it's Joe.
Yes, one of his best albums - Big World. So diverse. So... Joe Jackson. The wind instrument he plays in this song ALWAYS brings chills to my spine! Caught this tour, Seattle Center Arena. 6/22/'86. Very good concert.
great song off a great album-big world. I bought it on vinyl in 1986, this is the first cut. i never thought i would see wild west by joe jackson on you tube. great post!
One dislike? Oh well, there are Lady Gaga fans everywhere.

"You hear guns in the night, and you hope they're not for you.
'Cause a dog eats a dog, and he eats his master too.
In the land of the free, and the not so often brave.
There's both love or money, now choose which you will save..."
I LOVE that quote!
Joe Jackson is nothing short of a
GENIUS.
You can quote me on that, too.
