Wow, I saw this movie at a local theater when it came out, and I was 8 years old, and I've been asking people for years if they remembered a movie called "Snowfire". No one had. Couldn't even find it in the movie guides. Was thinking it must have some other name I couldn't remember......but here it is! I was right all along. Thanks for posting this great memory.
What a great movie...I just watched it this morning on TCM, the greatest television network in the world....Little Molly was wonderful...there is a scene where a Psychiatrist tries to convince her that she cannot talk to horses and little Molly bets him his brand new sports car that she can.....he quickly remembers another appointment and drives off in a hurry.....wish they made em like this today....
THIS MOVIE HAS BEEN A PART OF MY LIFE SINCE I FIRST SAW IT ... ONLY IN THE THEATER... HOW MANY YEARS AGO??????? I AM SO HAPPY TO SEE IT MIGHT BE AVAILABLE.... AND COMING TO TV 7/11! WONDERFUL!!!!!!!! WILL SHARE IT!
@maddamrose2 A woman identifying herself as "Trish Hickey-McNaughton", the daughter of Molly McGowan Hickey's husband (by a later wife), stated that Molly "died at the age of 19 of bone cancer. She and my father didn't have any children, she was pregnant, but on chemo, so the baby wasn't to be."
Would you believe that producer Stuart McGowan originally planned this as a TV show? He first proposed the idea for the 1956-'57 season, but no one was interested in a weekly series. He then decided to make a theatrical movie out of it in late 1957, and released in the spring of '58. I can imagine what kind of situations Molly and Snowfire would have found themselves in {"What's that, Snowfire? You say that Daddy's been KIDNAPPED by some bad men??"}.
Yes, this did appear on TCM on May 18th, at 1am(et), in an excellent color print {Lorimar-Telepictures distributed it in the '90s, which Time-Warner later acquired}.
Today I looked at a friends horse and its not quite white, but a cremelo and out of the blue said, your horse looks like Snowfire. Then it i realized I hadnt said that name in over 45 years! I never watch tcm, only on occasion but tonight i accidentally found it and the movie Snowfire was just about to begin! Its because of Snowfire, flicka, and fury I have a love of horses and have had a horse most of my life!
For anyone who may still be interested, TCM is running this movie (at least that's what the guide says) on 5/17/11 at 2AM. If you get this channel set your DVRs!
I know this hasn't been on television for years, but that doesn't mean it's lost. A good place to ask/look is Warner Archive. They now own the rights to Allied Artists films, and have already released several. It's not too much to hope that they have materials on SNOWFIRE.
I remember this movie gowing up in the 60's, absolutely loved it!! Bought a copy of the film on ebay a year or so ago, and have watched it several times. I STILL love it!
It has been 51 years since I saw Snowfire in my then hometown theater. I was only 5 years old, but I remember looking up at the billboard and there was the most beautiful horse I'd ever seen. This movie has been embedded in my mind ever since and I have forever been searching for a way to get a copy. If this is all that I ever get to see before I die, I will be thankful!
i thank you so much for posting this i have not seen this sense i was small i loved it so much, i wish you could post the whole movie it really warms my heart and put tears in my eyes. thanks again.
wow - I'd forgotten all about this - I remember watching this at sat.morning pictures in the U.K. - i had a white plastic horse named Snowfire....lol...thanx for posting...
OMG.....I have not seen this in over 40 years. I remember seeing this on TV as a kid, loving it and I wished for a horse like Snowfire when I'd blow out my birthday candles every year. I even remembered the theme song. Sadly I have never been able to get the horse I so badly wanted, but this brought back some fond memories of my childhood. I'm so glad I found it and thanks for posting it! I would love to get a DVD of it one day.
@sharcband I have looked for this movie for years. My wife doesn't even beleive it exists. I would love to copy of the DVD if it is really available.
I have loved this movie since I was little and it greatly encouraged my love of horses (I have 2!). I have also searched high and low for a copy, with no luck. I love you Snowfire!
