Now use that to pump down your air compressor tank, then hook a large diameter hose w/ valve between your compressor tank, and the drum. Crushed in 30 seconds?
yeh leaks are really obvious when they develop :D. I have a spray wand made from a length of 1" PVC with 3 holes drilled in the end cap. its all you need for washing bikes/cars. no pressure cleaner needed.
Hi Dave, I've kind of decided to look at Castair and C-Aire 2 stage compressors, more so because of sales and service. Being that my budget is $2000 I am some what limited, but still have a wide range. Both the Castair and The C-aire 5HP 2 stage pumps are imported knock offs of the Saylor Beall 705. The have spring and disc valves and centrifugal unloaders. At 750 rpms they put out 18.5 cfm @ 175psi. The Quincy units I mentioned a while are a no go, turns out it was only a 2HP.:(
@rotarycomptech ya, briefly. The Advantage series 5hp 2 stage is the one of choice, but it about $2800. I did look at the Centurion II series with the optional 5hp 1725 rpm motor which was about $1800 delivered, but the Centurion II is an Advantage series pump without centrifugal unloader and it has reed valves rather than spring and disc. I even looked at a Quincy QT-5 at a local Northern Tool co. and I was suprised how cheap they made it. Fly wheel is cut for 2 B grooves, but only i B used.
@rotarycomptech DeVair (DV Systems) has a 5hp unit that puts out 19.1 cfm @ 175 psi @ 635 rpms and is quiet, but............the price tag $2975+ $450 (freight and customs). I do possibly have one other option as far as used goes. A retired cabinet maker I knew recently passed away and had a heavy 5 or 7.5hp 2 stg 3ph. I saw it many times, but dont remember what it was. I'm thinking a Saylor Beall or a Champion. I do know it was a slower rpm and QUIET!
@puttz1976 Scott, I talked to a friend who is a devair dealer the price you got is correct. He tells me that he is now selling a compressor called omega 5 HP starter mounted and wired beltguard nice paint job quiet
$1.900.00 I guess they have a web sight not the greatest. he said he has very little problems with this compressor check it out BTW Q-T stands for Quincy Taiwan I also talked to Quincy dealer who told me that the latest and greatest Quincy QR-25 series sucks
@rotarycomptech Wow! The QT-5 didn't surprise me, but the QR-25 did. I did check out the Omega compressor website, and your right, it wasn't much to look at, its almost like its still in development. Would you say your 325 is quiet or average? I have personally heard the Castair model I was looking at, and you could have a normal conversation in front of it with out an intake muffler.Model 1518VC1-S is the unit I've been seriously looking at. castair.net
That was pretty cool. I saw this done on Youtube before, but they used an old DeLaval # 73 vaccuum pump that was designed for the dairy industry for milking cows. I was kind of surprised that it could do it because the #73 was one of DeLaval's first rotary vaccuum pumps. When we had our small dairy farm with the modern day pipeline (finally got rid of the buckets in 1982) we had a DeLaval system with a #78 pump driven by a 5hp at around 800 rpm. It was capable of pulling 56 cfm,
@puttz1976 Scott thanks for the comment, that dairy unit sound intersting. How is your quest to find a compressor going?I had a idea to try to reinflate this squashed drum using a 1500 PSI pressure washer
for safety as water is not as dangerous as compressed air
One of my customers had this happen to their milk tank though not as bad, tank should have a vent to let air in as the milk is sucked out by the tanker, but they had put a rubber bung there instead.....
They can do something similar during the wash when it goes from hot wash to cold rinse, my vid of stainless welding was the fix for a crack caused by the front wall of the tank flexing due to this!
@heavydiesel Hey Jon, thanks for your comment! I have also seen that same wash down scenario on a milk tank when I lived in americas dairy land AKA Wisconsion on a service call :)
Hey, Ed I have seen that as well, you don;t know this but I got this idea from you on one of your laet videos when you uesd a vacuum pump to evacuate a intertube. I guess a light bulb went off in my head, though it might intersting to try. Thanks for the comment I know your bussy:)

@g60scuzz I thought about doing that but I didn't have a large hose that would handle
the vacuum with out collapsing. that's a 80 gal receiver tank in the back ground I don't think it would take any more than a couple of seconds

@Aussie50 Ya Ed I gave that a try but the quickly developed a leak on one of the sharp bent corners:(
rotarycomptech 7 months ago
@rotarycomptech ah yeh, it would have cracked the metal in a few places :( need good volume of water to do that.
our mains pressure is 100psi here and it would have little trouble overcoming the leaks.

@Aussie50 Holy shit 100 PSIG water pressure @ your door step only 35-40 PSIG hear lived in Wisconsin it
was 65 psi I guess if you get a small leak you'll know it
