boot time says nothing about the actual performance of a computer. it may take a system more or less time to initialize hardware devices and settings, and the software load on the system will affect the boot time, but for regular use (i.e. real performance) this means nothing.
Yep its a netbook, infact a very small one. It has the same specifications, speed and performence as an average laptop, the ONLY difference is really the size and HARD DRIVE space which is greatly reduced.
Also note the battery lasts over 2 times longer then the average laptop...up to 7.5 hours!!
it means its 12 GB on 2 drives. Looks like one is an unremovable drive (unremovable in the sense that it isn't easy for the average end user to remove) and then there is a 4 GB SD card, but I may be wrong.
Also, please note that the Linux version comes with 20 GB storage space (and although Linux isn't that easy to use, unless you cripple it like ASUS has done, I would take the extra 8 GB even if it meant a little headache when trying to install some software).
hey im gettin the eeepc 901 for christmas im hoping for the green one and i want someones oppinion on it because its still a couple months away i can change my mind.....any oppinions??

What I'm thinking too. It's definitely much much faster than the "1.6GHz" CPUs some 6-7 years ago - which struggled to run XP. I think it's the improved technology (memory/mainboard etc) of modern CPUs so they process things more efficiently.
Yeah but it is better but does have very limited space. I installed XP+SP3+WMP11 etc. on the 4GB drive and now it has taken around 2.5GB. SO leaves me with around 1.5GB for Windows. I made all programs to be installed on the 16GB drive so far so good.
Just an update, I got my eee pc 901 for 3 days now. And it appears that they now have "dual-core" Diamondville Atom CPU in them. My eeepc shows 2 cpu graphs and 2 "1.6ghz atom" cpus under device manager :))))))))
That means your supplier is well ahead of the game. I checked major stores throughout Europe and they all seem to be out of stock. Which store did you see with available stock?
why do people keep saying this is so much better than the 900? except for a bigger memory (LOL simple terms for me) and a new design, what other big changes have they made?
Man I got a 15.4" Sony Vaio Laptop (£1000..4 years ago) and it takes fuckin' 3 minutes to boot up XP! So all of you jackasses who think 30 second boot up is bad for these small things...YOU DUNNO WHAT YOU TALKIN ABOUT MAN! THEY'RE OUT THERE MAN! THEY GONNA GET US!.....*crying*
I'm sold. I'm buying it. I'm done with full size heavy ass laptops. In a way, i'm glad people are bitching about this and that with regards to the 901. That means I'll have a better chance of picking one up at launch. Suckers.

Oh really? The Acer Aspire One boots up in 13seconds, same specs as the Eeepc. Congrats, another retard who truely doesnt know what he is talking about.
One thing you must consider: battery time. Up to 6 hours with the 901 or 2 hours 30 on 900 (and less if you have the 4400mAh battery). The 901 includes new goodies such as bluetooth and, later this year, a one with WiMax.

im thinking about getting this for my mother, it has
12GB = 8GB SSD + 4GB SD
can someone explain to me what that means?
does that have 12gb in one drive or is it more complicated than that, i want this to be easy for my mum to use

It's so fast for booting and stuff because it has no hard disk! x) It has a flash disk, witch is a lot faster for loading.

it's just hyperthreading, not a real dualcore ;)
minipcpro 3 years ago
Ah ok thanks for pointing that out :)
Never used an Intel Hyperthreading CPU before so didn't know. But there is indeed a dual-core version of Atom around ;)
obbytoo 3 years ago 2
It's called the Atom 330 and might be launched on the next IDF in 2 weeks.
But due to it's TDP you won't see it in netbooks i guess.

Got confirmation that stock will be available by the end of July.

Laptopsdirect
Cheapest out of them all at £299. RRP 310ish.

I just pre-ordered one as well from the same website as you. I hope it arrives somewhere next week :D

Thats odd. You can get it in Sweden, and as far as I know were a part of Europe. However, I am not very good with geography.
Sweden sucks.

Asus also isn't a store. It's a manufacturer and does not supply to end users.

"Available for pre-order. This item will be released on 11 Aug 2008."
Those "New and used" ones are international adverts. Verified by "will ship to UK".

is the screen glossy? or the same like @ 900?
I have bought an eee900 and i'm hesitating, should i sell it and buy the atom one or should i stick with me eee900.
Is there a huge difference between the 900cpu and 901 cpu? Does it still remain single cored?

A more marketable processor, since people see "900mhz Celeron" and "1.6ghz Atom" and assume there's going to be a huge different (hint: there isn't).

so witch one is better
the Intel atom or the celeron?

In italy they said 901 will arrive (with 1000 anda 1000H) for the end of august. It's really nice. Now the factor to check are:
-price;
-compatibility with ubuntu (or others) and difficulty to fix it to best;
-how it looks in my hands :-)
Bye
