This book should be made into an entire movie starting with this. This would be the perfect Fresh bit of Sci fi movie that is needed in Hollywood these days. We sci fi geeks are drowning in rehash, reboots and remakes. We need an Aurthur C. Clarke movie. WE NEED RAMA!!!
I was blown away by the video when I first saw it. With the edition of your "soundscape" it is STUPENDOUS ! Terrific work. When I heard the final word "Everything" I literally got chills up my spine. Thanks a lot for this
Beautiful video much better and professional than it could be expected from a student. I'm pretty sure about that you will get kudos soon and go very far in the visual multimedia designing ;)
Anyway, the book is also fascinating too except the conception of the 'artificial gravitation' made by rotating of Rama. (according to the first law of motion due to Newton none of bodies could be took effect of g-force in a rotating cylinder unless it's affixed to the inner surface strongly)
It was great, but I have a little problem with it. According the book at the centerline of the cylinder there is no gravity. Then how they can walk there?
Thanks for all the kind comments. This was my final project for my year in the Vancouver Film School Sound Design program. The amazing visuals were produced by Aaron Ross in New York in 2001, and he was kind enough to give me permission to use his film.
It was an absolute blast recording, editing, scoring and mixing this film, and VFS taught me everything I needed to know in order to get it just right. I'm honoured to be on the official VFS channel!
@Philsy1971 hey i'm very interested in going there in two years time since i'm still in high school and i want to do the sound design program. as of right now i do music production and my own hobby type of thing and im using soundtrack pro in logic studio for mac. Was this school hard to get into or like do u think you could give me a couple tips? if so that would be awesome!
Incredible. Very professional and amazing directing. I love everything about it. Realistically speaking I do not believe we would send a team of live crew through Rama first. If anything there would at least be robotic surveyors but it seems this was modeled after a novel.
While I can't tell how authentic it is from not having read the book, I can say this was at the very least very suspenseful and looked brilliant.
mmm i shouldnt be a person to be judgemental on the visuals as i myself would not be able to accomplish such visuals yet, but the lighting, shadows, and materials looked unrealistic and very game like 3d. Just saying
Compare to the original short (done in 2001!) linked in the info bar.
Myself, I prefer the original audio track; I find this dialog "B" movie corny, and I thought it was silly that more breathing sounds were added as more astronauts appeared on screen.
But I do agree that I would love to see Rama given a proper film adaptation.
this is based on the first book and the owners of the film rights have been sitting on this for a long time (mogan freemans production team) this would be an incredible series on tv, as a movie just cant give do it justice.
The sounds were great, very convincing. The visuals also delivered the story extremely well. This is great; make a short film! (Or even a full length movie!)
Awesome interpretation of Arthur C. Clarke's novel but sadly too short. I would give my left kidney to see an actual film adaptation of this book. Great job on the sound.
Anyway, it was great, I think a bit more of emphasis on the "everything" would've made it better thou. Oh and, as a sidenote, there is no sound in space ;p

There should have been 3 doors, The ramans do everything in three ;).
But a very good project, very professional. I hope freeman and fincher do continue with the real movie project.

I think the sound of their breathing is a bit too prominent when they enter, otherwise very awesome!!

@zemei Magnetic shoes? I don't think A.C. ever mentions that, but he is not the kind of writer that puts many technical details into his stories.
Anyhow, great video!

Too bad I did not see the "spider bots". I imagined Rama as an ovoid.
This rendition is way cooler.
